Listening to this, Fantastic Damage, and Run the Jewels 2 twice, and watching his lecture with Red Bull Music Academy makes me appreciate El-P more, not just as a rapper/producer, but as an artist. I need to grab a hold of his other stuff, most definitely Cancer 4 Cure.

I wasn't sure where else to post this exactly, but, the violin is the undisputed best musical instrument ever. LIke, I don't think anything at all even comes close to its god tierness.

Pleasantly surprised by Sufjan Stevens' Carrie and Lowell. His last two albums were fine, but they were too long and dragged at points. This one is much simpler and much easier to listen to. Makes for a better and easier full-album listen. First "indie folk" album I've liked this much in a while.

Also listened to Lord Huron's Strange Trails. This is closer to the kind of folky music I tend to prefer, and while it wasn't outstanding it was definitely worth the listen. I'm always happy to find contemporary music that infuses Americana elements. That said, the songs are kind of samey and it runs a bit long. I like the sound but it could've done with a shakeup or two, and probably didn't need all 14 of its songs or however it has.

Just now finally getting around to The Tallest Man on Earth's album, Dark Bird Is Home. I'm not against an artist leaving their comfort zone and trying new things, but the songwriting here just... isn't as good. The vocals aren't as good. The lyrics aren't as good. The guitar playing isn't as good. Pretty disappointing. I haven't finished the album, so maybe it'll win me over, but this clearly seems inferior to his previous albums.

I agree with you about the new TMoE record. I was excited when he came out with something new, but after a few listens its faults seem to shine through more than anything. The production is muddled, sometimes his guitar is mixed too low, little irking things like that. There are some gems, like "Little Nowhere Towns", but for the most part I found it to be pretty forgettable, especially in comparison to his previous work. I'm hoping that he either doesn't continue this trend with his next release, or that he at least refines it if he insists on the full band aesthetic.

I also enjoyed Carrie and Lowell. While it doesn't sound like you're as enamored with his last albums as I am, it's nice to see that he met your tastes at least a little more than usual.

EDIT: I'm listening to this new group now, Corpo-Mente, that does a really interesting take on opera music. It's like ambient folk with some rock elements with operatic singing. Listen if you're feeling adventurous.

I've recently decided "Wasted Years" is the best Iron Maiden song

I do like "Wasted Years", but I like a lot of stuff from Number of the Beast more. "Children of the Damned" is probably my favorite right now, though I don't listen to them much (or any metal) anymore. And I'd probably put "Hallowed Be Thy Name" at a close second for the album.

My favorite Iron Maiden song is the one where you don't listen to Iron Maiden because all of their singers are awful.
