So, I've been playing RB3, and I'm very happy with the game. Just a few thoughts. CONS FIRST YOLO Number 1, calibration is bullshit. I was a full 120ms off. Wtf. Even now it's still behind and idk how to fix it, I've tried everything. Number 2, when you calibrate, it puts you back to the menu. Number 3, Career is bullshit cuz if you have to go halfway through a gig, you have to start the whole thing again. That makes sense. Also, there are goals for getting a certain amount of stars and so on. I missed the top one by one star one time (cuz I failed a song I'll get onto after this), and you have to do all 12 songs again to get the goal. That's so stupid. Number 4, and this is one thing that I simply cannot stand about this game. The background lighting is utterly ridiculous. It is so insanely over the top it's actually quite distracting. I wouldn't mind as much, but I mean, your band is playing a pub and there's strobe lighting and stuff everywhere. THEN HMX decided to add things that aren't at the gig, but visual effects like colour blur, motion blue, reflections and so on. In one song, "Llama", this effect gets to be so obnoxious about 64% of the way into the song that my poor little eyes literally cannot look at the screen any more cuz it hurts too much. That's the song I failed earlier and the only song I can't pass. Das some bullshit. PROS YAY Number 1, fantastic set list, good DLC, we all know that. Number 2, I like the engine a bit more this time. The unison bonuses in solo play is a nice addition, as well as the cymbal rolls. Number 3, Tiering seems a little bit more accurate. Things are still overtiered, but not as undertiered. For example, Smoke on the Water is inexplicably devil tiered on drums when it's painfully easy, and there's song in Tier 3 which was literally just the straight rock beat start to finish. There are no songs (so far) that are low tier that blow your head off like "Afterlife" or "Constant Motion" in RB2. Number 4, if you play with a band, it saves your personal score anyway. I play with friends/siblings a lot, and I also like to 5* every song in the game. It used to be that I was only able to 5* songs on my own, but not any more; if I myself with just what I did get 5*s in a song, it saves it to my account. This is a really cool change, as it means for the FG5* I don't have to go through all the really easy, boring songs on my own, as most people singing will go "OMG DA FLYLEAF SONG GUYZ" or something similar. So yeah, RB3's good, I like it. I don't get why they went for the lighting option. At least the track isn't see-through any more. |

The seethrough track was probably my biggest gripe with RB2, that combined with a gold coloured overdrive and crazy lightning effects made it very hard to see the notes from time to time. And then there was the hyperspeed option, either like 2.5 or nothing. It was quite painful. Also, I'ma be a dick and steal that "currently playing" thing in your sig. |

Playing through FFXIII-2 again. Taming one of every tameable monster in the game is my goal this time around. I imagine this is going to be a huge pain in my ass when it comes to monsters like Dreadnought, those beast things at the end of Academia 500, and Proto-Behemoth, all of which appear rarely, and in the case of Proto-Behemoth, can one or two-shot my whole team once it transforms. Let's not forget the DLC monsters, which also come with the game's hardest fights. When I get to the point where I only have a few pain in my ass monsters to tame, I'll prolly just pick it up and play whenever I feel like it. I have way too much I'd rather do than grind for hours all day erry day to get a monster or two. Also trying to build a stronger team this time around. I think that's going well, with a more optimized Crystarium setup and all. I'll also get a couple of those items that increase STR/MAG by 20% for Noel and Serah, which will increase those stats by 44%. Woo. Should come in handy for the super boss DLC. As for Marill's RB3 post... We were discussing the RB2 and 3 careers (and other stuffs) yesterday in chat. The big difference between the careers is that RB2's feels longer and more substantial. When I play a game, I generally expect it to get more challenging as I progress. (Well, unless I can break it, like XIII-2 by taking on the side quests and acquiring shittons of CP/awesome monsters earlier than I should, but whatever.) RB2's career was essentially a long grind for stars, as is RB3's, but it got more challenging as I went on. You generally had to play more songs, which got tougher as you went and required you to get more stars than on an easier setlist. RB3? Nope. Same easy songs, they just expected you to be a little more accurate. The idea behind RB3's career was interesting, but with such easy songs to veterans of the series, it wasn't properly carried out. It also didn't help that the career was either an exercise in randomness or you got to pick your own songs. That's just lazy game design right there. IMO every song should have been involved in the career somehow. Being able to bullshit your way through a career and intentionally avoiding the hardest songs should not be possible. I still think tiering is lulzy bad on vocals. Off the top of my head, The Con, Lasso, and Llama are not impossible tier songs. Fast words != hard song, especially in Llama's case where it's literally one pitch like 98% of the time. Any one of these songs could easily be replaced with Beast and the Harlot, or for a dark horse, Combat Baby, which gave me more issues when going for the FC than all three impossible songs I mentioned combined. Yeah, the lighting can get really annoying at times. It's pretty rare, but there have been times where I've stopped playing because the lighting gave me a headache. Personally I hope that any RB4 that comes out rips off Focus Mode. I've taken to using that in WoR and I love it. Naturally I'd turn it off when I'm playing with friends (inb4 >friends), but for solo play it's amazing. |

Yeah, wasn't a big fan of the Career in RB3, especially the goals they gave you. I've been given "Nu-Metal playlist" or "Random RB1 playlist". I don't think it's very fair to give the guitarist "Green Grass and High Tides" in their first ever show, do you? Some of the requirements are completely retarded. I didn't have THAT much of a problem with them (they were finicky but doable) except one that made you deploy Overdrive with a full bar. Now, I'm happy doing Career cuz I get more 5*s that way and hear new songs and stuff. It's hard to get Gold Stars on Drums when you're literally saving Overdrive for a full minute to deploy it with a full bar, then you have to do it AGAIN? It's the same thing as one challenge where you have to deploy Overdrive repeatedly, and there's a section where, after you activate the Overdrive, you get more Overdrive while in it. Does that count towards your goal? Nope. I finished that entire playlist with 2 spades and Gold Stars on every song. That's stupid. That said, Career is entirely optional and you can get away with just picking your own songs the whole way through, so it's fine. RB2's career was awful, so it's a step up, I guess. xD |

A few thiiiiings: League of Legends -- With Marill and co. Half-Life -- I bought the HL complete back for $10 on Steam. I'm not very far into the first one, only about an hour, and so far that hour hasn't been anything special. The Walking Dead -- Perfectly captures the feel of the comics/show, IMO. Probably closer to the comics, which is good. Had an issue importing my episode 1 decisions into episode 2, but I found a fix online. Left 4 Dead 2 -- I've had it for a while now, but a group of my friends got it so I played a little with them. It was ehhh with them but they're new. Magicka -- Haven't played co-op in this for soooo long. But this is the first time I've done full 4-player co-op. It's kinda messy. People keep hitting each other, so to be safe I try to either wait for someone to move out of my way or I'll try to move, but no matter what happens they're still always in front of me so I can't do anything other than heal them, and they usually heal themselves. Rock Band 3 -- Played it with some friends IRL. Pretty fun, I usually end up on vox when I have friends over even though I never play it solo and I was getting 90%+ on some songs on expert so yay. |

I finally completed the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Such a great game, even though the motion controls sometimes got on my nerves. Watching the credits now. Yeah...it was an epic game. Feels good to be done with it. I think the next game I'll play is Donkey Kong Country Returns. Maybe side by side with Darksiders? (checks date)...hmm, Dawnguard hopefully comes out soon. Side by side with Skyrim then! |

Playing Skyrim in anticipation of Dawnguard, and trying to get my Smithing to 100 so I can get dem dragonbone weapons. Also, FINALLY started Arkham Asylum. I shouldn't play sequels first. I keep trying to fly, and I go like, ten feet before I land. Also, the thugs are really slow to get up, so it's harder to get combos than in AC, since I'll knock everyone down with like, 5 hits, and then have to wait for someone to get up. But still, awesome game so far. |

Might grind the last 15 lvls to check out dragonbone weapons and armor too. Since I finally completed TLoZ: SS I can finally play other Wii games! :P I started playing Donkey Kong Countrey: Returns today. Just completed level 1 today (not just 1.1 :P). Pretty fun game, although the overall "silly" atmosphere is a little off-putting. Oh, Rare... |

Yes? DKC is fun and all, but it can't compare to DK 64, even though they are two completely different games. |

You're right, DKC can't compare because it's far better than DK64. DK64 was pretty obviously a Mario 64 ripoff and it hasn't aged well in any department. Not to say it was "awful", but it definitely was nowhere near the same level as any of the original three, or even DKCR for that matter. |
