DAT STORY TIEM

Ended up beating Chapter 11 by not being a derp. I got the wireless fixed on my 3DS (I GOT A NEW ROUTER AND FORGOT TO RESYNC I AM SO FUCKING SMART), so I can get stuff now whee. Wasn't quite expecting my avatar to straight up marry Chrom.

On an unrelated note, should I make a new thread for discussing this game so I don't keep clogging up this one?

If you want. I'd probably make it an SMT x FE thread, too, because that's supposed to come out this year and I know there are fans of both franchises (LAD and me really).

I'd be down for it tho because it's fucking Fire Emblem.

Had some time to kill and decided to pick up where I left off on FE7. Currently I just saved that Bard kid and his sister, and I'm trying the sidequest to get their ring or something back.

It's a pretty good game, I probably won't end up playing any other ones past it (but I think I'm not that far into it, I might have a change of heart). Sain and Kent are my star duo, solid units, I keep trying to level Lyn when I can but I'm always unsure how she handles in combat, I usually end up using Sain/Kent to beat on larger people and have Lyn come in for the last hit. Not a fan of the Pegasus lady as her mobility doesn't seem to really do anything if she can't fight properly, and iunno about Dorcas, they made him out to be pretty powerful and all that jazz but he's usually an afterthought. Wil is a baller and I need to use him more.

EDIT: Okay I just got this general guy how is he remotely fair

Generally units like the General are in their second tier, so they scale off badly late game if you spoil them. Doesn't stop them being hilariously OP early.

ALRIGHT I BEAT BIOSHOCK. ////superlaet

I bought the game in January but my PS3 wasn't working so blah. I started playing Saturday and holy shit. This fucking game man. The story is incredible, the gameplay is great, the suspense was so good I wanted it to both be over yet also keep going forever, and this is just all in all a beautiful and artistic game. I could easily play this thing like 10 times and it won't get old.

NOW TO PLAY 2 AND INFINITE INSTEAD OF STUDYING FOR EXAMS ALRIGHT.

Dude, that's like the best thing ever.

I've been playing quite a bit of SCII lately, and its obviously fantastic.
FarCry 3: Blood Dragon should be in the mail by Saturday, so I'll get to play that pretty soon. I'm excited for it. It looks so silly.

I just completed Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
So yeah. If anyone has ever wanted to play a game where you ride an armored dragon that shoots lasers out of its motherfucking eyes with a mounted minigun on its back, you should totally pick up this game.

Beat the new Tomb Raider, because when in doubt, play a game that cost you a good amount of money.

I'd rather not re-write Marill's excellent review, but some thoughts anyway.

I obviously played the PC version. Where else but the PC market are you going to find one of the year's biggest releases for half price less than two months after its release? Anyway, the game runs like a dream on my machine... On one core. Once I figured this little fact out about two hours in, the game ran smoothly at its highest settings throughout. As you might expect of a game on its highest settings, it's gorgeous through and through. I have no complaints on this front; the presentation is top-notch, and I enjoyed the artstyle as well.

Can't say I agree with Marill's take on the color palette, though. There's plenty of grey, brown, and black at night (obviously), but it's not like it's dominating your screen throughout the entire game. Places I'd expect to be dreary (military bases *cough*) are dreary, and places I'd expect to be bright and vibrant are bright and vibrant. All I really want graphically/artistically is something more than the three color palette of the average FPS, and Tomb Raider delivers, so I'm content.

Of course Lara Croft looks good because it's video games, but she's not as objectified as the old Lara was. This is obvious; a single look at her would tell you as much. What isn't so obvious without playing is that Crystal Dynamics managed to craft a believable female protagonist. She's the "strong female character" that is so rare in gaming, but she also shows the emotions you'd expect out of anyone (well, anyone who isn't totally fucked up) at certain points in the plot. A strong character does not and should not have to be emotionless. I can't think of any character in a recent game that I came to care about as much as I did Lara.

That said, not everything that happens to her is believable. Like everyone else, I take issue with the fact that she goes from feeling guilt over her first kill to becoming a killing machine. I suppose that she had to accept "kill or be killed", but I don't think it'd come anywhere for a "normal person" nearly as easily as the game seemed to imply. I'm not convinced this kind of character development is something that can be done in video games like the ones we are accustomed to playing.

There's far too much gore. Lara is seemingly almost always covered in someone else's blood, whether that be from killing someone and getting splattered or walking through puddles of blood. She can also die in many violent ways. One that comes to mind easily for me is being impaled through the neck by a piece of metal. Also, if you go there, odds are there is blood. While I understand blood exists, there really isn't a need to make most locations look like a Cannibal Corpse cover.

Gameplay-wise, this isn't a very challenging game. I'm not an old hand at games with TPS mechanics, but the shooting comes naturally. It really helps when half the enemies can't hit the broad side of a barn on *normal*, so you'll have a lot of time to set up a headshot or whatever. The melee amounts to little more than "dodge and bash Y when enemy gets too close", which sucks, but it's not how you'll be playing 90% of the game.

The platforming isn't as intricate as something out of the more challenging Mario levels, but the presentation makes it exciting. Games in the Uncharted vein are more action flicks than platformers, so I'm not going to knock them for not having the best platforming action ever. As long as it feels exciting, I don't mind, and the game excels at raising the tension even if the platforming is really easy.

And as always, QTEs fucking suck ass.

All things considered, this game is fucking awesome.

I saw NovaWar of LAGTV's fast forward playthrough of Tomb Raider. It looked like quite the intense action movie. Explosions, guns, pewpew and a hot chick.

I think Tomb Raider is a game I'd like to play. It seems like a better Uncharted in many ways. I'll wait for my brother to get it on his PC at some point, probably.

I'm playing through Okami HD on the Playstation 3 and the Mega Man Zero Collection for the DS right now. The Mega Man Zero games are all fun, but they're also all incredibly difficult and stupidly short (my Mega Man Zero 2 file is at like 2 hours and 44 minutes and I'm at the last stage). I don't think it counts the time from when you died, though, only for runs that you successfully completed, so really the play time is probably like twice as long. But yeah they're fun.

Okami is incredible. I'll probably write a review after I've finished it (which won't be too soon since my PS3 is at home, I'm at my dorm, and I have finals so I probably shouldn't play it this weekend even when I'm at home). Spoiler: this is a 10/10 game so far. There are very very few games I've played that I'd consider 10/10.

I decided to download Slender: The Eight Pages and try it out. So far my record is one page 4 pages, and my heart hasn't slowed down once while playing it.

I can't believe you dare to play that game. Just watching it scares me to death, hahah. I'm such a bitch when it comes to scary stuff, though.

Finished up Soul Hackers, too.

I'd say it's a good beginner's SMT. This is by far the easiest and shortest SMT I've ever played. I've heard the Digital Devil Saga games suggested for this too, but I haven't played them yet. Idk if I'll get to them before SMT IV drops, though.

The dungeons are still boring. The biggest trouble they might pose is that there are warp tiles and a few damage tiles late-game, HOW HORRIBLE. Gameplay is alright as usual. I rather liked the demon loyalty/personality ideas and wish they were present in more SMT games than this.

Bosses are as easy as I've ever seen them in this series. Outside of Mayone, there isn't a boss that took me more than two tries. Kind of disappointing when one of the biggest draws the series has is its difficulty.

Again, the story isn't great or very developed. Getting to be a common theme. I did like the Haunted House, which was a fun dungeon (by this game's low dungeon standards) and was exposition for Six. Wish everyone else on the Spookies had a dungeon or something to expand on their character. Nemissa probably doesn't need one, though; it's rather easy to see her develop into a character who gives a fuck about the team/humanity.

Loved the graphics/artstyle and music. The graphics/artstyle are an acquired taste. If you don't mind a game that obviously looks like 1997, you might enjoy the style. If not... Idk lol. The music isn't "put on your mp3 player" good or anything, but it's catchy and it works for the game. This is more like what I expect from Shoji Meguro. >.>

It was a fun game and all; I just wish it were harder/longer. (inb4 that's what she said) It has an "extra game" option that I'm sure will bring the pain, but I'm saving that for another time.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It's pretty fun. Before this, I had never played Counter-Strike. One feature I wasn't expecting is a "Casual" matchmaking system. When you look for a game to join, you can choose from a variety of modes, two of which are "Classic" (which is either a defuse or hostage mode). You can choose to join a lobby for "Classic Casual" or "Classic Competitive". I think the function of each of those is pretty self-explanatory, but I'm glad it's there. I expected the CSGO community to be similar to LoL's and Dota 2's since they're all competitive, but so far the not-competitive modes have been alright. There's usually not much conversation, but little conversation is better than hateful conversation. So uh yeah I'll continue to play, would recommend if you're interested in fast-paced tactical FPS's. My friends and I are still learning the maps, weapons, etc., but once we know them pretty well, I assume we'll start trying actual strategies and stuff. That kinda thing seems to be pretty important in a 5v5 game.
