woo triple post Beat the first Digital Devil Saga. I would be hard-pressed to find a game in my collection that has a more meh story, assuming it has a story of course. The characters are flat as cardboard and don't get much better. They get one character trait and that's basically all that defines them. The plot is bog standard "defeat teh other groups" stuff. I don't give a fuck about this universe or its characters enough to move onto 2. Gameplay was decent as I'd expect. It's definitely easy enough to make for a good beginner's SMT, but IV and Soul Hackers (the 3DS remake) would be better suited for this because they have better stories and adjustable difficulty. Its best idea is allowing you to alter every character's skillset at any time, though you could argue this is what makes the game so easy. Ah well. So yeah, moved on to the Mass Effect series. Beat the first one, starting on the second. The plot/characters didn't grab me until Virmire, but once the events there happened shit got real in a hurry. I guess the best I can say (for now) is that I'm anxious to see what happens to the universe and the crew, and also anxious to see how my Shepard's choices in the first game affect the next two games. Gameplay-wise it's probably the best Bioware series yet, not that this says anything at all. It's not hard to beat DnD gameplay in this day and age. But yeah, gameplay has been Bioware's biggest weakness by far IMO, so it's nice to see they have a series in which it's actually fun to play the damn game. I really wish there were more graphics options to play with. No quality options, no AA, none of the options I'd view as standard for a PC game. There's only resolution and a handful of other lesser options. Between this and Alice, it seems EA doesn't give a fuck about graphics options. Outside of that, the games look pretty good, but I like seeing my rig laugh at Ultra/whatever its equivalent it is. I also like tinkering with the options and turning down/off the less useful ones. |

I started playing some Alan Wake last night. First off, holy crap that game looks good. I didn't even crank up the settins. The water, lighting and landscapes just blew my mind. The character models looked amazing as well. I was pretty much just blown away by them graphics. I played about one hour last night, so so far it's fun. It's on the edge of being scary, but it's not, so it's still fun if you know what I mean. I'm definitely looking forward to playing more! |

So today (1st of October) was a fantastic day. The Battlefield 4 Exclusive beta opened up today. I've probably played about 5-6 hours today (dayum) and I've been having a blast, and so I thought I might as well plop down some of my first impressions before I go to bed. Visually the difference between BF3 and BF4 isn't too big and for those who haven't paid any attention to the games wont notice it, but for those who have played both it's a pretty big difference. There aren't a lot of big things, just loads of small stuff, which comes together to such a cool product. The biggest visual difference might be that the silly blue filter is gone, and now we have a much more realistic and gorgeous looking game. The gunplay is really nice, suppression has gotten a big overhaul. In BF3 it increased your recoil, blurred your vision and made your bullets go anywhere but where you aimed...which is obviously a big problem with a competitive shooter. In BF4 it still does the two first things, but it doesn't effect your accuracy whatsoever. What it does now is it at longer distances it makes your scope sway (similar to the effect when you run out of breath when focusing with a high powered scope), as long as you're able to keep your sight on the enemy, you'll hit. DICE called it "bringing back the skill to the game." It's just a great change, and probably one of the most important ones for gunplay. The sound is really something else. The BF3 sound engine is amazing, but the BF4 sound engine is amazinger. Everything has much more of an oomph. DICE are just fucking insane. One of my favourite changes is the new class balance. We still have the same four classes from BF3, Assault (medic), engineer (anti.vehicle), support (LMGs and ammo boxes), recon (sniper). What's cool now is that the engineer has PDWs instead of carbines. In BF3, PDWs were available for all classes, but in BF4 carbines are available for every class. So now you can play more of a spec ops class and a more mobile (this is a big theme in this game btw) support and recon class. The recon class also gets C4 now which previously only the support class had. This is really cool, and doesn't make the snipers flee with their tails between their tails when they see armour. There are also plenty of other smaller changes, but I cba to write about them. :P And then there's "field upgrades", or "perks". These are just small boosts to your character from being able to sprint a little faster, fall from a little higher up, recover from suppression faster, start with more ammo and an extra grenade etc. In BF3 every person in a squad had to equip one perk, but in BF4 you have a perk tree with four different perks that you unlock after cooperating with your squad (squads are 5 now, instead of 4). The thing is, if your squad gets wiped, you get punished and go down a certain amount on your perk tree, so it's important to be careful if you're the last in the squad. Overall BF4 is just a much more refined version of BF3...with a lot more awesome features. I'm really, really excited for the full game to come out, it's going to be a lot of fun to play. If you're curious about BF4, the beta is open for everyone on friday, and I really recommend giving it a try, you might even like it, hahah. |

Played some Minecraft with Paal earlier and it was awesome. We played some Survival Games whenever my internet didn't kick me from the server, and I also learned that he does not sound Norwegian. Fun times. |

Finished Bioshock Infinite a few days ago and let me just say that this is one of the greatest games of all-time. And that ending. Bah gawd. No other ending made me depressed since P3 (which was, like, 2 years ago.) |

Finished my second run through of The Last Of Us in New Game plus. I'll probably do it a 3rd time sometime in the future in a higher difficulty. I know I've said this before, but this game is fucking amazing and anyone who has a PS3 NEEDS to have this game. |

I just completed the "story" for Game Dev Tycoon. I bought the game while it was a greenlight game on Steam and had quite a bit of fun with it back then. I decided to start playing it again a few days ago and it was a good idea because I had a good time with it. I struggled really badly the first time I played, but this time I just coasted through that motherfucker on my first try, which I found pretty lulzy. Now I guess I'll be playing some Skyrim or finish up Tomb Raider before BF4 releases. |

So I got that MGS collection today and started with Metal Gear. The very first one. Some things frustrate me (like, guards respawn if you leave a screen and return to it), but overall I like it. It's supposed to be really short (HowLongToBeat.com has it at 3-4 hours, so hopefully I don't take too much longer than that). The part I'm at now is annoying 'cause Snake just broke out of a prison so the guards are automatically alerted when you enter their screens and then they call in like six more guards and you have to kill them all which uses a lot of health/ammo and it just doesn't seem very fair if it's a stealth game and it's not letting me use stealth sometimes. That's fine for boss fights, but here it's annoying. |
