"Finished" Persona 4 today. I done fucked up and got an ending way earlier than it should have been, but fuck it, I'm just gonna watch the last few episodes of the anime to get the true ending. As much as I liked it, that game is too damned long to justify another twenty hours. Now, starting Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. So far it's just making me want to replay Wind Waker. |

Well, you'll technically get to play a NG+. Getting the True Ending results in (spoilers) Nanako living. |

The true ending in the anime is pretty terrible though. Most of the ep is useless filler, and the animation is subpar. The game's version is better. Edited by LifeAgainstDeath, Dec 2 2013, 04:05 AM.

So I picked up a classic Fallout collection a few days ago on Steam because lol steam sales. I played the first one for about 1.5 hours and tried the second one out a little bit. After giving these games a go I realise that I'm a very big fan of tutorials. These games are just like "yo, this is your quest, go do it". That is literally the introduction you get. And then you are kind of set out to figure it out on your own. And I get that, I get the challenge and I understand that some people might enjoy it. However...would a quick little rundown of the UI, some small tips so that I understand how to walk, how to attack, and how to interact with the world hurt? I'm not a fan of hand holding...but I'm not a fan of being thrown out into the dark either. So far it's been a pretty frustrating experience. I'll probably read a little on the Fallout wiki so that I get a better understanding of the games, but right now I'm just getting annoyed. Guess that's what I get for playing games that are almost as old as me. :P *edit* Oh, and I picked up Magicka as well. I'm having lots of fun with it, despite only playing alone. It's a pretty silly game and the fake Norwegian/Swedish is funny. Edited by Granskjegg, Dec 7 2013, 01:56 AM.

So I've finally gotten back into Half-Life and plan to actually finish it now. I'm playing it unmodded, but HL and lots of other older games have HD texture packs created by either the developers or fans. Do you guys play with those on your first time through an older game? Even if it's an official HD add-on, I usually feel like I'm not experiencing it the right way because people didn't have that when it first came out. I might be interested in replaying an older game with an HD mod, but probably not the first time. I'm very interested in Black Mesa, but I probably won't try it until I've finished the whole HL series and the full version of BM is out. So what do you guys do? |

Nope. I don't even mod most games. I'd only go to that trouble with games I know I'm going to play extensively. So far I've found those games to be TES and Civ titles, though that doesn't mean I wouldn't mod a game in the future. About the only mods I'd recommend to a Morrowind first-timer might be the Better series: Bodies, Clothes, etc. Other than that, can't think of any mods I'd recommend for a first run of any game. |

I completed Fallout 1 yesterday. It was a pretty clumsy and confusing playthrough, but I enjoyed it, and I feel like I have a better understanding of the way the game works, so my playthrough of Fallout 2 should go much better. So yeah, the original Fallout game is as I said earlier a pretty hard game to get into. About 80% of the skills are completely useless (stuff like first aid, doctor, traps, survival ++++++++++++). The game didn't actually have any form of tutorial, no information on how the action point system works (how much you can do during combat, how far you can move, and how many times you can attack, different weapons require different amounts of AP) or anything, so you are just thrown into this world and left to figure it out for yourself, for someone like myself who has never played one of these old RPGs it was very difficult, thankfully the Fallout wiki helped me a whole lot as it tells you which skills are worth spending points on, which perks are actually worthwhile and which traits that are recommended. Fallout 1 has sooo many weird perks and skills that really make no sense to pick as they will help you on literally one or two different occasions in the entire game, making it pretty much completely useless. But aside from the obvious issues with the game, it was a lot of fun to play through it. You can potentially play through the game after completing like only three quests, which is pretty silly, but if you take the time to visit all the different towns and help them out, you'll likely have a much more fun experience. The thing that probably annoyed me the most was the fucking walls (it's the same in FO2...urgh), they are way too big, and block your view so much, so you can hardly see anything, but you just have to bite together your teeth and power through it. I started FO2 yesterday, and I'm excited to play through this one, and it's supposed to be a more refined version of the first one, so yeah, it's going to be a good time. |

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck... Fallout 2 doesn't like to be a thing. I've installed it on three-four-five-six seperate occasions, and it runs perfectly the first time I boot it up...however if I close the game and try to open it up again later, I get this message: "Fallout seems to be running in compatibility mode" I've done some googling, and it seems like a lot of other people are having the same issue, and after trying out the stuff that was recommended, it still doesn't work. God damnit. I'm going to try and do some snooping around to try and fix this, but I wont be shocked if it doesn't work. =/ |

*looks at previous post* *cries* Yeah, Fallout 2 just doesn't want to work, I read a lot about it online, it seems that a lot of people using W7/8 having some weird error with it saying that ir is running in compatability mode, even though it ISN'T. I've no idea what the problem is... But yeah, I'm curently downloading some demos for my 2DS; Rayman Origins, Monster Hunter 3, Cooking Mama (lol), and FE: Awakening. Might download some others, but those all look fun (SeaNanners played Cooking Mama on the Wii ages ago, and it looked hilariously silly), and I might even buy some of them. |

SHAMELESS TRIPLE POST! I started playing OoT for the 2DS and gave Super Mario 3D Land a quick go last night before going to sleep last night. The latter seems like a really fun game and I'm excited to get more into it. OoT is..well OoT, of course it's awesome. The graphics surprised me a bit, looks fantastic. I was also a little surprised that tje framerate was so smooth. Ninty sure knows how to make cool shit. |

Yeah, 3DS games always look a hell of a lot better in motion and on the console than in screenshots. |

Just finished Half-Life 1. The first few hours were kinda slow and boring, in my opinion. You mostly kill soldiers for a while and it's just not that fun. They slowly introduce more and more alien enemies until you finally get to the alien world (Xen). Earth and Xen each had their pros and cons. Earth levels felt like they had more puzzles, but Xen had the more interesting environments. Overall, Half-Life is okay. I personally enjoyed the second half of the game a lot more than the first half. Except for the monotonous soldier stuff at the beginning, the game rarely feels repetitive. There's always something new and I don't remember ever thinking "this looks/feels a lot like the last level" or anything like that. Anyway, I'm not sure I've played any FPS's older than Half-Life. So I did read some reviews about why Half-Life was so good at the time to see what I missed. One big thing is the immersion of the game. I'm sure many of you already know that the player character, Gordon Freeman, never speaks. Also, there are no cutscenes. Cutscenes remove/distance the player from the game, just like talking would (unless the player talked too, but uh no), so they just had everything occur in first-person view. Looking back on it, that is kinda cool. I've also read that the AI was very good for 1998, but I wouldn't know. I've seen stupider AI in more recenet games, though. The game has a couple expansions (Opposing Force and Blue Shift) from two different perspectives, so I'll try those out sometime. There's also a multiplayer mode, but I'm pretty sure it's just deathmatch or something and I'm not interested in that. I'd recommend it if you're interested in the Half-Life series (duh) and/or want to play a pretty important FPS. Next, I'll finally finish season one of the TWD game... I played the first two eps more than once because it kept refusing to load my decisions from ep 2 into 3, but I think I finally found out how to make that work. I just didn't want to replay ep 2 immediately after doing it, but it's been more than five months now so I can probably replay it. After that, umm, I'll try Metal Gear 2 again. I tried it once and died about 38250 times but I'll try again. |

Just finished Assassin's Creed II. Oh my god, that ending was absolutely terrible. How could a game with such a neat premise, with this decent of gameplay, have such godawful writing. The writing for the entire game was passable, at least, up until the ending. Then they threw it all out in favor of their idiotic conspiracy plots and modern day idiocies. Who at Ubisoft thought this was a good idea? Who there thought that anyone actually cared about the modern day, when the game is supposed to take place in centuries old periods of history? My god, what a terrible twist. Y'see, here's how twists are supposed to work. You spend the first two acts of a story building up tension and foreshadowing, and then release the twist on the audience. It's meant to be a surprise, but it makes sense. The plot was set up to deliver. However, you do NOT make the first two acts have one goal and then throw a twist that renders the first two acts COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT. At that point you feel like the story was a waste of time, that there was no need to have those beginning acts since the third act completely destroys all meaning of the first two. That's exactly what happened in this game. Just in case there are people who care about spoilers, I'll put them in a tag. For those of you who don't, go ahead and click to see just how ridiculous and stupid this game's ending is. spoiler HOLY SHIT. HOW CAN YOU BE THAT BAD AT WRITING!!!? I ASK AGAIN, WHO THE FUCK AT UBISOFT THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA? WHY THE FUCK DID I JUST SPEND 20 FUCKING HOURS PLAYING THIS GAME AND GET REWARDED WITH THIS? FUCK YOU, UBISOFT. I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DID IT, BUT YOU DID. YOU TOOK A COOL SOUNDING IDEA AND COMPLETELY DESTROYED IT BEYOND REPAIR. [utube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XDuy-qLmII[/utube] |
