Okay, so I finished Mirror's Edge a couple days ago and just started Metal Gear Solid. I'm only like an hour in, and it's really cool, but I don't get why people like David Hayter so much. His Snake voice reminds me of How It Should Have Ended's Batman. Maybe he's better in 2-4, idk, but right now I don't think I'm really upset about Kiefer Sutherland voicing him in 5. I'm not sure he's the best choice, but as of now I don't think he'd be worse.

Finally getting back into Etrian Odyssey IV. I hope I can finish it before I get Yoshi's New Island. That's three weeks away, but considering I've been playing this game on and off for over a month now, idk lol.

Some thoughts three dungeons in:

-The dungeons aren't as intricate as they were in Strange Journey. The mapping feature has an icon for everything you might think to mark on your map, but I find the mazes so simple that I don't need to mark anything. Maybe (hopefully) this changes later.

There are no save points before bosses, but the game makes this up to you by allowing you to take shortcuts to reach the boss/where you previously were in the dungeon. If these didn't exist just *getting* to the boss with 80-90% of your TP would be an ordeal, and then it'd be much harder to win than it already is.

-Speaking of bosses/difficulty in general, this game is pretty damn hard. Even *normal* encounters can kill you. Hitting attack with all five characters every turn is a fast way to get killed; the game expects you to utilize your characters' skills in pretty much every battle. I haven't feared death from random encounters since... Well, Strange Journey. The bosses, needless to say, are harder. I've barely scraped past the two story bosses I've fought so far.

-I like the class system. I feel like the game has finally opened up since I gained access to subclasses in the last hour. I suppose it'd be easiest to illustrate with a short description of my current party.

Guild name: (Minnesota) Vikings

Leader: Adrian (Peterson), Landsknecht/Nightseeker
Landsknecht is your archetypal physical class, Nightseeker is probably closest to an assassin in other RPGs. It even has a skill called Assassinate. Anyway, simply put, he's the heavy hitter of my team, especially now that he has two swords equipped, though I feel I'll need to put some effort into making him fast. Also supports the team with attacks that weaken phys/magic attack, and can hit weaknesses with elemental attacks.

#2: (Matt) Kalil, Fortress/Landsknecht
Fortress does what the name implies: It tanks damage. He has a TON of HP and skills that can redirect damage to him so units like Medics stay safe. But yeah, this guy gives as good as he gets, and additionally supports the team with skills that increase phys/magic defense.

#3: (Cordarrelle) Patterson, Dancer/Sniper
Dancers in this game are basically fast support units that can also hit fast and fairly hard. They're a great addition to any team. He sits in the front row and does dances to support the previous two guys, who generally put in most of the work. He has dances to increase attack, lower skill costs, regenerate health, heal ailments... Unlike the typical red mage, he won't die to a light breeze. Snipers seem like a support class, with skills that increase the party's accuracy, can cause paralysis, and so on.

#4: (Mike) Zimmer, Medic/Runemaster
This is a super simple one: He's the team healer. Soon enough, he'll have magic spells so he's not a total detriment to team when he's not healing. Even if he were just a Medic, he's essential for obvious reasons.

#5: Blair (Walsh), Runemaster/Arcanist
Runemasters are magical attackers, not a lot to say there. Arcanists have the game's best debilitating stuff: Circles that inflict ailments like poison, the various kinds of bind, paralysis, and other fun stuff. I figure when I fight bosses, his first priority will be to find out which bind (head, arms, or legs) helps the team most, get that on the boss, and then use magic.

-Story? Who the fuck cares; it's just an excuse to explore some dungeons and shit. But so far it's nothing remarkable, for better or worse. It's just there.

-Graphics are nothing spectacular, but the music is pretty sweet. The boss track is a metal-ish song that sounds pretty intense, the regular encounter music is nice, and the song that plays while exploring the Golden Lair (third labyrinth) is chill as shit. I'm digging the music more than anything that isn't gameplay, really.

It's a pretty fun game so far. I don't think I'd recommend it to most people, but for those of you who want a harder JRPG experience, the demo is definitely worth a try.

Friend picked up Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One so we've been having 4-person games of that. I haven't played Ratchet & Clank before (having not owned a Playstation 1/2/3/4) but it's a pretty fun game, lighthearted and very cooperative with a touch of competitive. Planning on writing a review after we beat the game, whenever that might be.

Just leaving this here.

EDIT: Adding some VVVVVV thoughts, I guess.

Graphics and story are LOL, but nobody cares about that shit in their masochistic platformers, so whatever. If anything, going with super basic graphics meant the developers could make the game as hard as possible, which has its ups and its downs. But once you've beaten a game like this, there isn't much else to do because the challenge is in defeating the level design, as opposed to fighting a boss or playing against other people.

I don't know. I'm not really a fan of making a game hard for hard's sake, but obviously an audience for that kind of thing exists. It's why "bullet hell" games exist, amongst other games/genres. I like challenge and all, but I feel there has to be a reason for it beyond just beating it. *shrug*

The music is great, though. I'm normally not bout dat chiptune/8-bit music life, but the soundtrack is catchy and also has a bit of an electronica feel to it.

There were times I had fun with it and a few rooms where I just wanted to throw my computer into the snow (sup @ The Final Challenge). Overall, it was decent but I don't know if I'll play it again.

RNGesus picked out Chantelise for me next. Looking forward to it because Carge Fulgar did a great job localizing Recettear.

Well THAT'S a new one.

I landed the final hit on the final boss, it blows up, game crashes.

Whatever, it's not like you're playing Chantelise for the stellar story, so I don't care what happens next. I could go back and do it again, but I can't be assed to run to the boss and fight a 15 minute fight. As far as I'm concerned, I beat the game.

My thoughts basically boil down to "it's Ys lite". Not a bad thing to say about a game, but it's fairly short, not as deep as Ys combat-wise, and the story is about as existent as it is in those games. Music is totally legit, though. I'd only recommend it if it goes on sale or becomes part of a bundle.

As you have all probably picked up by now, I'v been pretty pumped for Titanfall to release. I was pretty impressed from the first look. I don't know why, but just a short 2 minute video was all I needed to know that it just looked fun.

So it launched in the 'murcas yesterday and thanks to the mighty magic of the internet I used a VPN to play that shit day 1.

The game is simple, exciting, action packed and FUN.
I think if I had to say my thoughts about this in one word, I would say it's FUN. Simple as that.
Huge install file aside, this game has already been worth the money, and it hasn't even released in Europe yet.

The campaign is cool, it's nothing exceptional, but then again you really don't need that in a FPS game. I don't even know what it was about, but for me this was a very fun way to go through a campaign. Not only is the rewards for completing both sides pretty nice (you get the other two titan chassis), but it's a quick and fun trip. The campaign is just 9 missions, and you should be able to blast through that in about 1-2 hours, so 2-4 hours for both sides. The campaign is just the multiplayer mode with some cool narrative story to give the world, and the reason you're fighting a meaning. I think this works really well, and I really hope more games take inspiration from Respawn and just removes that single player bit all together.
I've played some single player campaigns for a few FPS games, and I've never sat there going, holy shit, this was the best thing ever. Most of the time I was just bored and kind of wanted to finish it, and it's very admirable of the Respawn guys to realise this and take a fun new spin on providing some lore to their world.

The gameplay in this game is just fantastic. It's easy to pick up if you are at all familiar with FPS games, and it just feels great. Wall running and jumping is fun, the gunplay is kind of bland, but it works because it's a fast paced arena shooter inspired by shit like Quake or whatever. After playing it I think adding recoil to the mix might be a bit too much, but for us Battlefield fans it would probably be cool.

Probably my favourite part about the game are the Titans. They are big, powerful, and awesome. I find these things require the most skill in the game, and the gameplay is very different from running around on the ground as a Pilot.
You have to be quite methodical, and think more. You can't just run around Rambo style, that wont work, as you'll get picked apart in seconds.

The game overall just feels incredibly well balanced, and everything just works. The hit registration, the responsiveness of your character, the sound, the ambience. Everything is just so well put together.

I don't know how much I will be playing this game compared to BF4, but I know I will get my money's worth of this, and have a great time with it.

Played some GH3 and GHWT a couple days ago, probably gonna play some RB3 tonight or sometime soon. Also played Demon's Souls today. I might try to finish it, but I'm not sure yet. It is very fun, and grinding doesn't feel that bad in the game. I feel like grinding can be done pretty mindlessly in some other games, but you still have to pay attention to what you're doing here or you'll die easily so I guess that makes it more fun than grinding in other games IMO.

I'm on dat Yoshi's New Island grind.

The game is pretty easy. Not that I expect difficulty out of a Yoshi game because the original Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story were both easy games, so whatever. I have 143 lives and I'm about to start world 4. However, finding collectibles is harder. Also, you can no longer tell which coins are red by looking at them. To compensate, you don't have to find everything in one run. You can find 30 stars, 20 red coins, 5 flowers, or some combination thereof across any number of attempts and it all counts. You must find *all* of an item in a given level, otherwise you'll be doing it over.

I died twice in one level. Whatever Nintendo calls those wings, well, they appeared and the game asked me if I wanted to use this pansy ass shit. Fuck that. I understand that Yoshi games are supposed to be easy, but I still feel this is *too* easy unless you gave this game to a three year old or something. At the least I'd have liked an option to turn it off or change the number of deaths.

Levels are shorter than in the original, which is to the game's detriment. There are some interesting new ideas, but they're limited to maybe one room/area per level, and yeah, the levels are small. The new vehicles/transformations rely on the 3DS's gyroscope, which can be hit (hot air balloon) or miss (SUBMARIIIIIIIINE). I'd say there's more incentive to go off the main path than in Yoshi's Island (Yoshi's Story also made going off the main path worth your while), because a lot of the collectibles you'll be looking for are hidden pretty well.

Enemies are the same as in Yoshi's Island, so if you remember how to fight the enemies in that, you're good to go. The only new enemy I've seen is a bouncing bean thing, which was so unmemorable that I had to edit once I remembered I saw it.

Boss fights so far are yawn-worthy. There isn't much in the way of creativity here, just hit them three times with whatever, dodge projectiles/whatever, defeat the boss. Hopefully this changes as I continue in the game, but I have my doubts. I'm guessing I'm halfway through the game (yay interface spoilers?) and the third world's boss fight was still bog standard.

The graphics still seem like a mix of Yoshi's Island/Yoshi's Story. I get a pastel vibe from the game, which is cool. I don't get why people are ragging on the artstyle; it fits right in with the rest of the series. The music/sound in general sounds like it was lifted straight from Yoshi's Island, though it was obviously touched up or remade altogether.

Nobody gives a shit about the story, as usual.

All things considered, it's definitely a Yoshi game. It feels so much like Yoshi's Island that they might have been better off calling this "Yoshi's Island 2". However, I think it's missing that certain something that made the original Yoshi's Island so wonderful, or maybe I'm just not 13 anymore. Either is a viable answer. I like it, but once I 100% it, I doubt I'll return to it for a long time. I'd only really recommend it if you enjoyed Yoshi's Island and don't mind a game that plays and feels much the same. Unfortunately this is a Nintendo game, so the odds that it falls to an impulse buy price (<$20) any time soon are near zero.

Just beat Barthandelus, and Imust say Sazh is a game breaker. Having him caste Haste is simply the most overpowered ability in the game.

You probably used Sazh. That spell costs WAY too much CP for everyone else to even have until post-game. If you somehow had it on someone else in the main game, you gimped their development in their three main classes or grinded a ton.

Also, Vanille doesn't get it. =p

But yes, Haste is a gamebreaker and the reason Sazh is in the party. Once someone else gets it, I don't really have a reason to use him anymore. Well, unless I want to or I feel I need Cold Blood for some reason.

Might have been Hope? I never touched Sazh or Snow, so it was one of the other four.
