I've been absolutely hooked on Kerbal Space Program for the past week. This game is so much fun, it's incredible. Trying to make good rockets, trying to get to the Mun and beyond, it's so cool. I actually got goosebumps as I was in first person mode looking out of my cockpit at space, it looks so gorgeous. I managed to land on the Mun, plant a flag and fly back to Kerbin today for the first time. It just feels like a huge accomplishment, and a satisfaction I haven't really experienced in many other games. If you want to try out a truly unique and amazing game, I highly recommend KSP. Finished the main game of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The game makes decent use of the Wii U gamepad. I'd hardly say it's what we expected out of the gamepad, but everything works and is fun to use, which is decent in my book. It's also not exactly a hardcore puzzler. The first two worlds are eaaaaaasy, though the game finally picks up a bit in the third world. Levels like Ghost Gallery Gambit and Magma Road Marathon are pretty tricky. I actually got a game over in the third world, in no small part thanks to that fucking ghost level. Boss fights are also pretty easy, which I don't mind because you're here to solve puzzles, not fight a boss for the 50th time. But you're playing this game for its charm. The artstyle is typical Nintendo, vibrant and colorful. I dunno if I would say I liked it more than Galaxy (da GOAT Ninty artstyle), but it holds its own. Even better than that is the level design. For such small levels, they hide more than you might expect and they're just fun to play. I especially loved Razzle-Dazzle Slide; it just looks amazing and the conceit of a pinball table works excellently for this game. Already said this elsewhere, but I can't recommend it at $40. It's a fun game and all, but I just don't think it provides $40 worth of fun, however you want to quantify that. I got it during the spring sale and applied some eShop credit to that price, so I got it for $15. THAT is a far better price and I'm totally satisfied. But yeah, the main game probably lasted me 6-8 hours. I'm sure the bonus levels would add a bit more to that, but still not enough for a general recommendation IMO. Idk when I'll tackle those; I want to start another game. |

Definitely going to pick up Captain Toad when I see it at a low price. Looks like lots of fun, but probably not worth more than $20. |

Aaaand finished Mass Effect 3. I really liked this series. And I noticed a lot of similarities between ME and Battlestar Galactica, which is generally a good thing because they're both awesome, but then they both decided to have really weird endings (people usually hate BSG's ending, but I liked it, so whatever). Anyway, ME2 was definitely my favorite, and it's mostly because of how each game handled side quests and characters. Both just felt a lot more substantial in ME2 than in the other games. I'm curious to see what they do next with Mass Effect, but I really don't think they can make it as good as this trilogy. A sequel would be pretty difficult to fit in the story. Unless they make three to account for each ending... Kinda like Pokemon, y'know? Mass Effect Ruby, Mass Effect Sapphire, Mass Effect Emerald? No? Yeah, no. And I wouldn't care much for a prequel. I feel like any kind of prequel would have a much smaller scale (obviously not defeating the Reapers), and that could just feel like a step down from the original trilogy. Then again, BSG's prequel series was decent and had a much smaller scale. But the endings would have to be restricted to allow for the original trilogy to happen... The only thing I can think of is a series about the creation of the Reapers (BSG's prequel was about the creation of the Cylons :p), and I guess that could work because no matter how it ends, they'll still exist, doing what they were made to do. But anyway. It's almost 3AM and I'm supposed to be up at 8AM so I'm going to sleep now. Goodnight. |

Splatoon was awesome, I had loads of fun (although I am TERRRRIIIBBBLLLEEEE at console shooters). I played it the entire hour and I was smiling and enjoying myself the entire time. I think I'm going to buy it when it releases. |

Yeah, actually getting to play Splatoon did wonders. I mean, it looked good and all, but my opinion was "I'll wait and see". After playing it, it's... really damn fun. I suppose my opinion is now "I'll wait until we get wind of the Steam sale". I want monies for that, and if I don't spend much (I don't think I will but idk lol) I'll probably buy Splatoon right after the sale ends. But yeah, it's more likely than not I get this game now. |

Restarted The Witcher. Same situation I had with Mass Effect 1 -- started it forever ago, lost my save early-ish when my laptop died, and didn't have the motivation to restart. But the Witcher 3 hype got me to start it up again. |

Episode 3 of Life is Strange = holy shit, dat ending The first third is probably the slowest part of the game yet. Everyone is still dealing with the aftermath of episode 2, and those players who are waiting to binge will need some downtime. Even the assholes from the first two parts seem remorseful here, which is a nice change. I'm not sure it'll last in the case of queen bitch Victoria, but beyond that who knows. In any case, this episode is far less character-driven than 1 and 2, which tells me that most of the major players have been introduced. Maybe one or two new characters get introduced in episode 4, but beyond that I have my doubts. The action is picking up and it's getting rather late to introduce new characters. Rather, this episode serves to advance the plot and sheds light on the various shady dealings going on between many of the characters. However, there are still a few characters we don't know much about. The teachers at Blackwell (that we've met, so the art/science teachers) come to mind. OH MY GOD THAT CHOICE AT CHLOE'S HOUSE. I don't want to spoil it, so I guess all I can say is that it's amazing. Even though it's safe to assume this game's audience is more open-minded than average because themes/gameplay, I am surprised to see 81% of people made the right choice. (The other 19% are playing as assholes? idk. I know I have an asshole file though.) Life is Strange = bomb building simulator. Because when you can't find a key or pick the lock, the most logical approach is to blow the lock off the door. Also B&E simulator, because when you can't get into something, the only logical approach is to steal the keys. Twice. Maybe crime simulator? Gameplay-wise you use a new power near the end that's apparently Butterfly Effect 2-esque. Baaaasically what happens is you see a photo and something (I'm assuming emotional stress for now) triggers Max going back in time to the moment when the photo was taken. You have to change what happens because of course. When you come back to the present day... Well, spoilers, but let's just say things didn't get better. Shit went full Steins;Gate on us, in fact. I assume this power will be used in episode 4 and maybe even 5. I suspect Amanda Palmer's "In My Mind" is the final montage/credits song. It's the biggest "get" in the entire list of licensed tracks, plus it makes sense thematically and lyrically. Been waiting for that song, but if we haven't gotten it by now, I don't think it makes sense until the very end. But yeah, the game keeps getting better. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it unless you don't intend to play episodes as they come out, in which case there's no point in buying the season pass until it's over. Also started FFX-2. It's gloriously stupid, which is nice because FFX was so far up its own ass that it suffocated. I also like that it's an all-girl adventure; you don't see all that many of those and the dynamic is different. More lighthearted too. The story will probably suck, but the adventure is growing on me, I suppose. As far as the gameplay, I feel like they threw in every idea they could. The dressphere system is awesome, there's no denying that. Lightning Returns stole this system and streamlined it (for better or worse), and it can be argued that the XIII series did to an extent as well. It's most obvious in LR though. However, I couldn't care less about the monsters; I just want to get through the game. Maybe if it turns out monsters are a better way to play, fine, I'd do that in another playthrough, but that's too far off to even consider. The chain stuff seems pretty useless to me too. I guess you can control that by delaying attacks so everyone can get a hit in, but I find it more tedious than not, especially in a game this easy. At any rate, it's better than X, as little as that says. Not sure it's even on the level of IX, which falls a bit in my estimation with every other good FF title I experience. I don't think I've ever played a game stuffed with this much extraneous bullshit. It feels like every idea they had was thrown into the game, with no thought given to how to make it a cohesive whole. Already said some shit about FFX-2's battle system, but it's the fucking mini-games that are pissing me off tonight. More specifically, this tower calibration crap. It doesn't even contribute to 100% completion! It's there for... I don't fucking know what. I guess a Ribbon is nice for completing all 30 towers across three chapters, but there is nothing a video game can give me that would make me want to suffer this torture for another minute. Tempted to straight up drop this. The only redeeming aspects so far are the interactions between the party and the straight-up ridiculous story. Everything else about this game is mediocre at best, and flaming garbage at worst. Final Fantasy fans like their mini-games, for what I don't fucking know. I've never found a mini-game in FF that made me feel, "yeah, this enhanced the experience". Blitzball is Spreadsheet: The Game, and you start with the lowest stats on the spreadsheet, with no way to improve them except recruiting people from around a "world" that might as well be one long fucking hallway. Tetra Master was so nondescript I can't even say anything about it. There's nothing in X-2 that I've enjoyed. XII/XIII moved away from this shitty convention and had things that are actually fun in RPGs instead (like, idk, Hunts), which may very well be a reason I enjoy them more than most of the others. BUT RO TRIPLE TRIAD Shut the fuck up, it's in FF8. I haven't tried it myself, but shit sounds tedious as hell and I don't play 40+ hour RPGs to try one good mini-game. Fucking A. Video games are about fun, not insulting me and my time. If I finish before the first Grisaia VN drops, which isn't a given, I'll probably just wind up doing mostly required missions and blowing through this shitfest. |

Based on your two posts, I can't tell if overall you like the game or not. Sounds like not, which is fine since I hated the game. |
