I don't know either. Right now I'm just angry at the bullshit, and making a post about it (and catching up on anime instead) beats screaming at the damn game more. I'll probably try and soldier on tomorrow when I'm less annoyed. |

So, as of this posting I have put in 31 hours into the Witcher 3, so I thought I would put some impressions in. This game is amazing. The combat (at least on the medium difficulty) is challenging and rewarding. You can't simply button mash your way through fights, even against lower level enemies. Geralt carries two weapons at all times: a silver sword for fights against monsters and a steel sword for fights against humans and standard animals like wolves. The game automatically pulls the correct weapon when you encounter enemies, and it has only pulled the wrong sword once, out of, I don't know, thousands of enemies slain. You also have access from the beginning to 5 different signs, AKA spells. Igni is a fire attack, Yrden is a slowing field, Quen is a personal shield, Axii is a stunning spell, and Aard is basically like force push. You MUST make use of each of these signs to be successful, and each one feels balanced and useful. Against difficult bosses, using Quen to nullify a single blow is a massive advantage; whereas against packs of enemies releasing Igni to hold off attackers is invaluable. Outside of combat, signs have additional uses, most notable Axii can be used in dialogue (think persuasion), and Igni can be used to light your way in caves. Overall, the combat is balanced, fresh, and exciting, so that part is excellent. The world is absolutely MASSIVE. 30 hours in, and I still have two more full maps to even touch; in fact, I am not even halfway done with the main quest line. Speaking of the main quest, it is very engaging right from the get-go. You are immediately made to care about two characters, even if you never played the first two games (I won't include spoilers here). Geralt is a badass, and he shows it through his dialogue options, and of course, how he looks. Armor all looks very cool, especially the Witcher armor, which is hard to find, but are the only types of armor that is upgradeable. Another cuirass is set in stone, whereas you can find diagrams to upgrade your Witcher gear. For example, I have the complete set of Griffin School of Witcher's gear, and the stats are insane at the base level. There are more diagrams to get intermediate, superior, and master crafted levels. Each upgrade obviously boosts stat, but also adds more ornate and fancy appearances, giving a nice sense of progression. Something that really stands out to me is the consequences at play in the quests. You might make a decision or a statement that you feel won't change much, but in a few more hours of play, you see how much that decision changed the world. For example, I freed a spirit from a tree instead of killing it, and instead of the saving a woman, it saved children instead. But the fact that the woman was not saved snowballed into even more consequences that I will not spoil. Even side quests have engaging mission storylines, and that says a lot. Overall, I am in love with this game; there is not much negatives at this point other than the small font in the menus and the horse control. The horse has a mind of its own most of the time, and other time it goes on autopilot so idk. And the save bug needs to get fixed, but I did find a work around, so yay. Tl;Dr, the game rocks. |

I booted up my PSP for the first time since I got my Vita and I found out that I still have a copy of Lunar: Silver Star Harmony, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy IV, and Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time. I'll probably focus on FFT first since it's supposed to be one of the best games on handheld ever but I haven't played in so long and already a bit ahead in the story, I might just fail constantly. FF4 is supposed to be one of those "must-play" FF games but I'm not too big of a fan of pre-FF7 games. Might change my mind later. I just played Lunar again (for the first time in 3 years according to my last save) and should also prioritize that. |

Oh I finished The Witcher 1. Honestly, the most interesting stuff happened in the epilogue. The story picks up at the beginning and end of each chapter (there are five, plus a prologue and epilogue), but the meat of each chapter is generally pretty slow. Most of the side quests are "kill x monsters". As for the characters... Geralt starts off extremely boring, but that's because he has amnesia. The only main characters I really liked were Zoltan and Dandelion. Zoltan's just a dwarf stereotype, but I tend to like those (like Oghren in DAO). Dandelion seems like someone most people would hate but I thought he was funny. Not in a joke-telling kind of way, just like... the world's super dark and depressing and his biggest concern is writing poetry. I liked his lightheartedness. As for the gameplay, it's alright. Combat mainly relies on your ability to click when the cursor changes color and maybe dodge stuff occasionally, maybe throw out some magic. I'm sure you know about the two swords -- one for monsters, one for humans -- but this game (not sure about 2 and 3) has completely unnecessary side weapons, like axes and daggers. I have no idea why you'd ever use them over the swords -- you can't use "witcher styles" with them (the attack combo chaining thingy), leveling up doesn't affect them (unlike the swords), and monsters are sensitive to silver so it's counter-intuitive to use a weapon not made of silver. I really hope they removed these weapons for 2 and 3. Anyway there's also potions and bombs. Potions can perform a variety effects, such as slowing down time to increase your chance of dodging/parrying, or making you less susceptible to stuns/knockdowns, and that kinda thing. Oils can be applied to weapons to do things like increase damage against vampires or cause bleeding on hit. And bombs can stun, blind, fear, or cause other effects to nearby enemies. Potions, oils, and bombs are incredibly useful in boss fights or encounters with a lot of enemies, but otherwise, it's pretty easy to get by with just a sword and good timing. So that does get kinda super repetitive and uninteresting, and considering that's what you're doing most of the time, it's a bit of a disappointment. But I hear 2 and 3 are a helluva lot better, with more interesting side quests and more engaging gameplay, so I'm looking forward to them. Oh and I started Metal Gear Solid 3. I'm currently about halfway through the third chapter of Witcher 1 and I definitely agree with what you said about the combat and general gameplay. It just feels a bit dated, really. The Witcher 2's combat is much greater as it just feels more dynamic and fast paced, plus you can play it with a controller! |

Yeah I just started 2 and I agree 100%. Sooo much faster and livelier. I haven't tried it with a controller, but yeah, I can see it being a reasonable option, which it definitely wouldn't have been in the first game. |

Destiny is actually really fun to play, especially after hitting level 20 when all of the endgame content is unlocked. Just don't go into it expecting a masterpiece in storytelling. The story is very underwhelming. The lore, however, is much more fleshed out. Accessing it (through unlocking grimoire cards) is a chore, though. The biggest problem that Destiny has is that it's overhyped. If you have no expectations, it's a great Borderlands-esque title with more emphasis on customization, grinding loot, dungeon crawling, and online play. Edit: It's also great about cross-generation saves. You can go back and forth between, for example, the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game seamlessly with all of your save data fully intact and with no effort on your part. Wish more games did this. Y'know, one of the things I'm feeling in Life is Strange is that the choices don't matter half as much as advertised. The ending of episode two can go one of two ways, but regardless, the person in question is quickly pushed out of the narrative because, well, you've got places to go and things to do. Maybe episodes 4/5 could prove me wrong, but I have my doubts, if only because there's still a lot of plot. You can also be the biggest asshole to Chloe, but no matter what you do, she'll still stick by your side because THE PLOT DEMANDS IT. Like, wtf? I'd have expected her to hate me after some of the shit I pulled on my asshole file, but nope, she'll still act like everything's good. Anyway. Playing(?) The Fruit of Grisaia. Not that anyone other than us weebs cares, but it's way better than the anime for the simple reason that everyone has time for their character to be developed. I always felt like Sachi was just *there* in the anime, but the VN does a way better job at showing how vital she is to the class and at giving her a personality. I liked everyone well enough after their routes in the anime, short as they were, but I like them even more after playing this. Doing my waifu Amane's route first because I make poor life decisions. (Though I guess that means I don't end on the sheer horror of her route.) From there I'll probably go Michiru > Makina > Sachi > Yumiko. I'll probably try and do a review for this, if only because it'd be different than every other review in the thread. |

That's all of TellTale's episodic games. The choices never matter. Subtle details change, but the episode always ends the same. If you enjoy the series the game is based on, you will probably enjoy the game. The only big exception is Jurassic Park. Big disappointment. Sam & Max is good (not great), but I've only played Abe Lincoln Must Die. Edited by Antunee, Jun 4 2015, 08:39 PM.
