MGS3 is pretty far ahead of 1 and 2. The change in the camera control alone is enough to make it way better, let alone the much better presentation, characters, and story. Playing 4 right now too and it's pretty cool. The Laughing Octopus fight creeped the shit out of me. Finished Act 2 tonight. |

I played the original release of MGS3, without the camera change. Though I have played it since with the re-release and I much prefer the over-the-shoulder camera. |

Yeah I keep forgetting that the ability to actually control the camera was added in later. Such a welcomed addition. Can't imagine I'd like the game nearly as much without it. |

Well, let's put it this way. I played the original version far more than any other game, ever, and very nearly got a No Alerts/No Kills run completed on it. |

Started the Japanese version of Dokkan Battle because I wanted an Android 18 and I wanted to do the Japanese content. Got her after five rerolls fuuuuuuuuuuuck yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah. There are other Japanese mobile games I could play, but I imagine most of the ones I'd be interested in are more story-intensive than this (sup Fate/Grand Order) and thus I'd miss out on a big part of the fun. But yeah, RNGesus has blessed me this day. Spoiler: click to toggle

I completed GTA V today...wow. What a fucking game. That was a fantastic journey, humorous, action packed and very well done. Highly recommend anyone who hasn't already played it to give it a go. I didn't enjoy games like Saint's Row 3 and GTA V that much, and I was worried this would be the same, but I dunno, something about it just clicked for me. I played all of it in first person mode, except some parts where I drove in third person, but I mostly drove in first person as well, and it was just fantastic. I've never seen a first person mode done so well before. Everything from highly detailed car interiors to the tint from your helmet or sunglasses, speedometers that actually make sense and all kinds of little things. I think the fact that I could play all of it in first person made the game much better than the other two games I mentioned, it just makes everything better, and really immerses you into the world. Top notch stuff, y'all. So now with GTA V "out of the way", I've started up The Witcher 3. I never did finish the first one, because it just wasn't very good. The Witcher 3 however is perhaps one of the best looking games I've ever seen (almost on par with modded Skyrim). It's colourful and just so good looking. I'm even able to run the game at high without any issues (not getting 60 FPS, but seems to be holding steady at 40, which is plenty for a game like this, where I do value grphx over the best framerate ever, and lowering it to even medium didn't get me much higher than 50, so I'll rather just have it be purdy). I'm not very far into it yet, but so far it's very good. I think this will be a game that will eat many evenings... |

Persona 4: Dancing All Night, obv. Early impressions: -It's a Persona soundtrack, of course it rules. -I like the standardized layout. I don't like that it sometimes feels like you have to try and keep your eyes on both sides of the screen, so what you're really doing is watching one side and leaving the other to your peripheral version or working off memory, whichever. Maybe this is just because I'm playing on a 21" monitor and not the 5" screen of the Vita. Knowing that the notes move in a clockwise fashion will probably help my game though. -Timing is fairly forgiving, once you figure it out. Probably not GH levels of loose, but I think it feels looser than Project Diva. I don't know why there isn't a calibration option, but so far I haven't felt like I've fucked up due to potential lag. -Getting used to scratch notes appearing anywhere was a bit jarring. In Project Diva, I'm used to them having their own sections. This game? They can appear anywhere, and you need to hit the ones that say "Fever" to activate the game's equivalent of star power/overdrive. At least a patch added the ability to hit them with L/R, though I'd have preferred L2/R2. It would feel a bit more natural, but I've gotten the hang of hitting those with L/R. -Story mode is kinda meh so far. I love the new character designs; they're all great. Three new waifus and two new kawaii girls in the Persona universe, yes plz. However, so far all of these new characters just seem like a collection of traits at this point and not characters yet. Hopefully that changes, since it appears I still have five chapters and a bonus chapter left. Not sure if the meat motif for Kanamin Kitchen is supposed to be a critique of idol culture or some dumb gimmick. It feels like an indirect way of saying idols, like nearly everything in our consumerist society, are meant to be consumed and then we move on to the next big thing. Not exactly groundbreaking critique, but it's possible. The ribbon scenes evoke bondage and can be construed as creepy, too. -As far as the songs go in story mode, none of you should have difficulty even on "standard". It's equivalent to Free Dance's easy mode, which is super easy. Somehow there's a beginner mode that's even easier, but I guess it's good for people who just want to see the story. You can turn the difficulty up if you need challenge in your story. -Rise's voice is far less weird in-game than it was in her trailer. I think it just seemed weird because the trailer mashed lines together, and of course we went from Laura Bailey to Ashly Burch. Feels like Ashly Burch is evoking Rei from Persona Q at times, but for the most part she's a competent replacement. If we get a "hella" from Rise for some weird reason, I'll be convinced it's fanservice for Life is Strange fans. -I guess I'll be shelling out for cosmetic DLC. Naoto's uniform is $2, the cross-dressing outfits are $4 (#worth for Alice!Teddie doe), stage costumes for Naoto/others are $3, mid-winter costumes (one of which is of course for Naoto) are $2... Basically if it has Naoto stuff, I probably want it because Naoto is bae and I can't refuse her stuff. I can live without accessories tho. Not sure if I want to buy the Nanako pack at this moment. On one hand, it'll probably be cute. On the other, it comes with a swimsuit for a girl who'd be like 9. I'll probably have to see the swimsuit first, bad as that might be (plz be a one piece). -Of the 12 videos they'll be selling, I'll probably only buy Snowflakes/Heaven. I like the other songs and all, but they aren't as great. -I'd pay $10 for Marie's song if it meant we got HanaKana's voice. Edited by Romanticide, Sep 30 2015, 06:23 AM.

First impressions after 20-30 minutes of Battlefront beta: Very pretty. I was laughing giddily going into the first game. But then it sucked because you have access to approximately nothing at rank 1, so everyone else was killing me with their fancy abilities. Basically, when I saw someone on my screen, I would die. Part of that is probably me not knowing maps and walking to the wrong places at the wrong time, but I want to whine about not being on a level playing field too. But that just makes Battlefront a metaphor for life, because nothing is fair and you will die. |

From what I have seen on Battlefront, DICE seems to be keeping up with the standard that they set with Battlefield 4 (Shit spawn system, awful weapon balance, questionable hit reg) but it looks pretty. And yes I am still salty about spending $160 on BF4 like a fuck wit before the game came out. |

Life is Strange episode 5 Like, I don't even know what to say without massive spoilers. Let's just say this: It's a total mindfuck. I wish they had spent more time on stuff brought up in part 4, but that would have probably required another episode they didn't plan for. Whatever. Episode 5 more than makes up for that, and it's the craziest fucking shit. Tales of Zestiria time, in a bit. Edited by Romanticide, Oct 20 2015, 04:48 AM.

Entirely too early Zestiria impressions? Sure, why not. I don't appreciate how Bamco handled the Alisha situation, so: If you plan to get this game at any point, grab a code for the Alisha DLC sometime soon. It'll go back up to $10 sometime next month. Course, the hard part might be remembering you grabbed a code if you buy this a year or two down the line. The PC port is pretty good. The game itself maintains a steady 30 FPS no matter what is happening, but really: I'd expect this of my system, given the general production values of Tales games. They don't push the envelope, and neither does this one, though I feel it looks significantly better than any other Tales I've played. Part of that is going from my oldass CRT to 1080p, but I don't know how much and quite frankly, I can't say I care enough to compare. The PC version's graphics are much better than the PS3/4 graphics. You might say "expected", but I point you to ports like, idk, the most recent FIFA game. It's not something I take for granted anymore, especially from developers who don't primarily focus on PC. PS4 is still good if you don't want to/can't go the PC route, though obviously it lacks some of the flourishes on PC, and PS3 looks pretty bad in comparison to these two. It's pretty obvious PS3 held this game back in all ways. I'd still be interested in seeing Digital Foundry tackle this game, though. I'm going to try downsampling; this is the ideal sort of game for it. I can probably run it in 1440p, but 2160p (or 4K I guess) might be a bridge too far. Won't know until I try, though. Music is the best it's been since Legendia. Might have to do with having Legendia's composer work on this game, idk. In any case, the OST is pretty good so far, and modding the PC version of Zestiria to have the superior OP is easy even for non-modding sorts. It's just replacing a file, y'all know how to do that. Gameplay-wise, this is pretty much Graces 2.0, just with more systems piled on. The Armitization system is the core conceit of Zestiria, and two characters fusing is as badass as you'd expect. Fusing identically named piece of armor to make stronger pieces works I guess. But I'm not keen on the support talents or this grid system concerning the various equipment in the game. It feels like they thought of systems and threw them in if they sounded cool enough, without asking if this would result in a coherent whole. Maybe it'll all come together as I progress throughout the game, but right now it feels like a jumble of things. Battle is still pretty fun even if you don't mess with the various systems much, though the camera is kind of ass. I like the *idea* of not being taken to a separate battlefield, but in practice the camera takes some of the shine off the idea, especially if you get caught in a corner or against a pillar or something. And a boss battle in a cramped hallway, with this camera? Whose brilliant idea was that? Outside of battle, the Lord of the Land stuff might be cool. After a land has been "blessed", you can get certain effects if you've gotten enough Grade. Normally Grade is useless until NG+, so this is a nice way to make it feel useful before then. I just hope it's not a slog to unlock the best perks. Paying to use fast travel is kind of dumb, but it doesn't sound like it's going to be prohibitively expensive. I feel fast travel should be more immersive than it usually is, so give us a number of wagons we can hire or something idk. I don't expect great things out of Tales stories. This one hasn't opened up very much, though it'll turn into a save the world story, as always. That much I know; I just hope it gets there in a more interesting way than "ZOMG FRIENDSHIP" for once. The characters I've met seem legit so far though. The character designer stepped it up for this iteration, and the interactions/skits are funny as usual. They'll probably wind up as trope-y as the rest in the end, but as long as the interactions are up to Tales standards, I can deal. |

Downsampling is bae. I can run this in 1440p and still get a constant 30 FPS. Not a big surprise, but I was slightly worried I'd dip into the 20s. Which would kind of suck. Also Edna is the best. Already a T5-10ish Tales character and I just met her like three hours ago in-game. That is all. |

Currently playing a lot of CSGO and Destiny. CSGO is just a fucking great game and Destiny is pretty good now after TTK, significantly less bull shit then before. |
