I am currently playing the Darksiders 2 remaster. For $29.99 it is a steal since it is one of my favorite games. The game definitely looks much sharper than it used to, and the game runs way better as well.

Life is Strange episode 5

Like, I don't even know what to say without massive spoilers. Let's just say this: It's a total mindfuck. I wish they had spent more time on stuff brought up in part 4, but that would have probably required another episode they didn't plan for. Whatever. Episode 5 more than makes up for that, and it's the craziest fucking shit.

So I did a thing and helped out my buddy Greg (Rello on here if he ever remembers he signed up here) with his video stuff for Extra Life yesterday, and busted out Advance Wars because nostalgia. Probably gonna actually do a full playthrough of this because i fucking love it.

Also, i goofed the audio so the game is exactly the same volume I am.

Fallout 4. God damn, what a game. I'm about 20 hours deep, and I'm having a blast. I haven't gotten far into the story, but so far it seems like a very good and interesting premise. The voice acting is really great, and having your character talk is something I am really enjoying. It probably isn't that cool for those who prefer thinking they are the protagonist, but I like this as it helps makes the storytelling more engaging, plus the female voice actor is pretty awesome.

The gunplay is really good as well, it feels much more like a standard FPS than what FO3 and NV did, which is a really good thing. It's one of the things that made GTA V so much fun for me, that the gunplay was quite good, and being able to ADS etc.
The crafting system is pretty damn in depth and you can create basically whatever gun you want, and whatever armour you want. The levelling and perk system took me a good while to properly understand, and I did some not so great picks for my starting stats (I've long considered charisma a dump stat in Fallout games for example, only real dump stat would be luck).

The game in general feels a bit more skill based (although I had to set it to hard, as medium was a bit too easy), as you don't need 100 in guns/energy weapons to be effective with weapons, you improve accuracy by customising it, as well as damage (however damage can also be improved through perks).

I never really listened to the soundtrack in the previous 3D Fallout games, I just always had the radio on, however the background music is actually very good in this game. It has these serene wonderful moments that are quite subtle and just add this extra bit of atmosphere and goosebump factor. The radio soundtrack is also quite good, with some great repeats from previous games, cool stuff.

It's all just very different, and doesn't really play similarly to previous Fallout games, which I think is a pretty good thing. Looking forward to failing this semester because of this game (I hope not lol).

Downloaded Pokemon Picross, finally. Idk how I forgot yesterday.

It's... Picross. If you like that type of puzzle, you'll get some enjoyment out of it. If not, just don't even bother. The Pokemon motif doesn't put much of a spin on things.

The game has powerups, which you need to use to fulfill some missions. Sounds like they'll come in handy for later challenges in which you have limited time or whatnot, but I haven't gotten that far. I don't mind powerups existing to make the game accessible, but feeling forced to use them to get more of those damned Picrites rubs me the wrong way. All I want is to solve puzzles nahimean?

Filling in squares costs one stamina. This is pretty damn annoying when even the first puzzles will cost you ~50 stamina to complete. You're given a free upgrade to 200 stamina, but this still doesn't get you all that far. There are five levels of upgrades for the stamina bar, the last one being unlimited(!) stamina, which sounds amazing, but one, you'll need to shell out real money (luckily, not much - $5 or so should do it), and two, it's pretty useless if you don't have enough puzzles to solve. You'll need to shell out money *again* just to get more puzzles, because guess what? Yup, entire worlds are locked behind the game's premium currency.

At least you'll get Picrites for free once you buy 5000 of them. I'll likely just buy the first $5 worth of them and see how it goes. I need money for other things at this point in time, and just got my copy of X, so... Yeah.

I feel Pokemon Rumble World did it better. Sure, you had to shell out real money for all the worlds, but once you did that, the game was playable as is. You didn't need the later trees to buff your Pokemanz, though they helped obv. It was also more enjoyable from a gameplay perspective, even if I do enjoy Picross.

Finished Clannad a few days ago. I'm sure I'll post about it at some point, but this is not that point. I don't know where to start with that one (idk if I'd want to post a review, route thoughts, a summation of thoughts, or what), but suffice it to say it lived up to my expectations. I don't think I'd recommend it at its current price point to most of you, but to us weebs, it's definitely worth the money.

Instead, it's time for early Xenoblade Chronicles X impressions.

So you've all probably heard that this game is bigger than the worlds of Skyrim, Fallout 4, and The Witcher 3 - combined. I can't say I fully understand these measurements and don't particularly *care*, but yes, each continent is gigantic. I spent ~4 hours exploring each of them before even starting on the story/missions and only surveyed ~20-27% of each area. I'd imagine I've seen most of what each continent has to offer, but to "survey" an area, you have to accomplish a certain task. Some require you to plant a probe, others to kill a Tyrant (unique enemy that's tougher than regular mooks), still others to carry out some Field Action, and maybe others? I'm not entirely sure, but I'd guess each symbol on the map tells you what you'll need to do.

Anyway, point is each continent has a lot of stuff to do. Is that stuff worthwhile? That's more of a value judgment, but I'm enjoying it so far. Probably because I haven't really thrown myself into the collectibles quests, which consist of collecting the blue jewels on the field and praying to RNGesus that you got the item you need. These were one of the worst parts of the original game (the worst is, of course, the affinity grind) and I'm not exactly enthused that they've returned, but I'll do them anyway because I want to 100% the game/hate myself.

Needless to say, each of the continents is breathtaking. I don't think they're gorgeous in the same way they were in Xenoblade Chronicles, where they were more fantastic (this is usually my preference in games - it's a big reason I prefer Morrowind to Oblivion/Skyrim), but they're still beautiful all the same. It's just that X is going for a more realistic look. Even Oblivia looks quite good in spots, and that's the damned desert continent. We all know deserts suck, almost as much as ice puzzles, so making one interesting is a credit to the gods at Monolith Soft. I don't think I'll be as attached to the locales in this game as I was to most of the ones in the first, but there's still a lot to like here. Noctilum is especially gorgeous and probably my fave thus far.

Characters look better than you'd think. The faces still look off, especially when placed on relatively realistic bodies, but I don't mind it. You can still make characters that look reasonably decent. Basically it's better than the first game, where the faces looked incredibly derpy compared to just about everything else in the game.

The soundtrack is going to be one of the most divisive things about the game. It's Hiroyuki Sawano, so... anime sound is to be expected. Some tracks would definitely not be out of place in an anime, like Uncontrollable, which plays when you fight Tyrants. It's a badass track tho. I'd guess most of the anime-sounding stuff plays in battles. A lot of the soundtrack is more befitting of exploration and wouldn't be horribly out of place in the first Xenoblade, and this is what you'll hear a vast majority of the time. I enjoy these songs as well, though for my money there isn't a piece as good as the Satorl Marsh night theme or the Mt. Valak night theme.

The gameplay is basically Xenoblade Chronicles but with a bit of added complexity. The biggest change is that characters can now switch between melee and ranged weapons in battle, and you'll want to do so: Certain arts reach their second/third charge much faster if you're using the right weapon, you can stay out of the enemy's attack range with ranged weapons, etc. Positioning matters more than it did in the original game, given that if you're now on the sides/in back, your chances of getting crits increases. There are also more arts that rely on positioning than in the first game. There are also 16 classes that your character can choose from, so the pool of arts available to you is quite huge. I believe you can also carry arts over from other classes, but I dunno how that's done.

I'm not sure how I feel about no healer. On one hand, having another slot that I can dedicate to something more awesome than healing (so, anything) is always appreciated. On the other, healing doesn't feel reliable. Sure, party members will ask you to use a certain art and that will give some HP back, but it doesn't seem like much. I kind of wish each character had an art or two they could use for a dedicated heal. It'd be more reliable and you'd still have slots to play with for other, more offensive (or defensive, if that's your thing) arts, and you wouldn't have to tote a healbot along. You always needed Sharla for major fights in Xenoblade unless you abused chain arts and with three party members, I feel that was too limiting.

Story blows. Okay, I've eschewed the story for the most part, but it hasn't exactly gripped me yet. By the three hour mark in the first Xenoblade game, I was gripped. The Mechon had invaded and shit went down. By the three hour mark here... You're still getting your feet wet in New Los Angeles, if you even went there, which you don't have to do. So far, I've explored New LA, learned a bit about BLADE, done some mining, encountered the Prone (an enemy race, though we don't know if they're the Big Bad yet), and done some more mundane tasks for people in New LA. I could jump into another story mission I guess, but I'd rather go around and do other things. It's pretty obvious that story is an afterthought, so I'll treat it like one unless it shows otherwise.

By extension, not much has happened to make me feel anything about any of these characters. At this point, they're all just there for me. *shrug*

All things considered, I don't think I'll like it as much as the original Xenoblade. It's just missing that certain something that made the first game such a wonderful experience. However, this is still a good game in its own right and one I think you should own if you have a Wii U.

Been playing some more Type-0. I just learned that you can only get the ultimate weapons on your third playthrough. You can also only unlock the second-best weapons during your second playthrough. But the third-best are still available the first time! I usually don't try to get all the ultimate weapons or anything, but I was thinking about trying with this one. Maybe I'll save it for Lightning Returns, FFXV, and the FFVII remake.

Top video games of 2015 post? Sure, why not. I've held off on making it because Xenoblade Chronicles X came out on the 4th and I needed time to finish Clannad/play that. I still have Yoshi/G-Senjou no Maou to play and Zestiria to finish, too. It's been a pretty busy fall for me, and my wallet has not appreciated it.

I've still missed so many things. Undertale would be a shoo-in... If I played it. I could probably say this for Read Only Memories, We Know the Devil, amongst other indie games, but money. I'll most likely buy Undertale if I get Christmas money, but I won't have time to play it until next year. Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 sound like great games, but I never played their predecessors (well, I didn't like the first Witcher, but it sounds like 2 is better), so I wasn't hyped for the new installments. Definitely plan on playing them so I can decide if I want FO4/TW3 when they go on sale. Tomb Raider will be a 2016 game for me because that's when it'll come out on my platform of choice, and even then I'm waiting for it to hit $30. Just didn't have the money for Splatoon and I probably won't for a while.

Anyway, the list.

1) Clannad
2) The Fruit of Grisaia
3) Xenoblade Chronicles X
4) Life Is Strange
5) Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle (JPN version)
6) Tales of Zestiria
7) Persona 4: Dancing All Night
8) Cities: Skylines

I mean... It's Clannad. In order to dethrone my favorite anime, there would have to be something with a better cast/story, and lol @ that happening in (most) video games. This was destined to be #1 once I knew it was a November game. Nagisa's route, Fuko's route, and of course After Story are all incredible routes, and every route expect for Yukine's is at least good.

I could put either The Fruit of Grisaia or X at #2, but my preference is simply for character development and emotional payoff, and Grisaia delivers that in spades. Amane's route is one of the best things I've read this year, and it certainly beats anything story-wise in X. Story/characterization just isn't a priority with X, but the game is hella fun to play. Game does have some decent missions though. The one involving the water purification plant's staff is an unexpected gutpunch.

Already said my piece on Life Is Strange. Buy this shit.

I know you all will wonder why I put a mobile game on my list. The long and short of it is it's pretty fucking fun, at least for DBZ fans, and it's F2P done right. All your money will really buy you is a *chance* at the best cards; it doesn't guarantee you jack shit. FWIW I've pulled nearly all of my SSRs (highest tier of cards) in both versions without paying money. Also helps there's no PVP. It scratches the collection itch for me and features a cast from the series that got me into anime. Gameplay isn't great, but the newest Japanese events have added some pretty tough and mechanically interesting boss fights. Sure, they're an excuse to suck stones (and thus real money) out of you, but they are fun and the Japan stone prices aren't insanely awful. But yeah, I specified the Japan version because you get more free stuff, more free stones, the pull rates are better, and it has superior events. All of this is probably because gacha games are more numerous over in Japanland, but we still benefit. You just have to understand how to play, and that's easy after a few hours of global. I don't regret putting money into this; it's given me as much/more fun than some retail games.

Zestiria is a bit more convoluted than it needs to be, but it's still pretty fun. You don't have to focus on the bullshit armor system, but if you're a min/max sort of player, you will. I'm not, so I just do the bare minimum to get by. Battle is pretty much Graces 2.0, which is awesome because Graces was insanely fun. The soundtrack is the best since Legendia. It helps that Go Shiina worked on this game. Also, Edna. Edna is the best Tales character since Pascal. If you don't love her trolling and her bored with everything voice, we can't be friends. Edna is the reason my X character has Kira Buckland's voice, and it's surprising how much different she is in that role. Edna and Mikleo need a room though holy shit the sexual tension just oozes from them.

Didn't play as much DAN and Cities: Skylines as I'd have liked because other things, but they're still pretty fun games. I do plan to buy the DAN DLC at some point, along with the Cities: Skylines expansion. If you like city builders, you should own Cities: Skylines, if you don't already. It's the best in the genre since SimCity 4, which isn't saying much because the competition ranges from outright bad to mediocre.

Other stuff worth mentioning that isn't necessarily 2015: Persona Q (mostly because I didn't mention it last year), Pokemon Rumble World, Persona 4 Golden because it's GOTY every year, Yoshi's Woolly World, and I have faith G-Senjou no Maou will be a good read so fuck it

Finished Arkham City. It's very very good. Combat is fun, boss battles are entertaining (although mostly pretty easy), lots of options for stealth, movement around the city is fun, and yeah. I was planning to finish all the side quests (except maybe all the Riddler stuff) after finishing the main story, but after struggling to defeat Two-Face in Catwoman's last mission, I got a black screen. Took me a while to beat him (also took me a while to realize he was getting a steady stream of more guards after I'd take them out), so I might try to go back and beat him again to see if I can get back to side questing, but if not, I'm already pretty satisfied with the game and will probably just move onto something new (or something old that I haven't finished).

And I'm two eps into The Wolf Among Us.

Oh, and Type-0 is fun, but the amount of grinding that's required is just so annoying and I don't think I'll end up finishing it. It's a neat game and I hope they make more "Type" games, but life is too short for grinding.

Currently playing Rock band 4, nice to get back into a good music game again. Also playing Destiny and Halo 5 since I got a Xbox elite controller. It doesn't do much for destiny, but is really good for Halo once you get key bindings that work for you.

On the PC side of things, I am still playing CS:GO and I just started Ori and the Blind Forest and it seems pretty fucking good so far.
