Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest Game is hard. It's definitely harder than 7, 9, and 11. Probably harder than 8; that has a reputation as a fairly easy FE but I haven't bought it yet. I'm sure I will whenever the FE itch bites again after the Fates package/Nintendo puts it on sale. I think it might even be harder than 10. This is to say, it might be the hardest FE I've played. Nothing will approach Thracia 776 though. I might try that if I'm feeling particularly masochistic or want to play the older titles. The biggest change is that characters right next to each other can support the other by delivering a follow-up attack or blocking an enemy attack. That wouldn't be so bad in and of itself. Matter of fact, it'd make you OP, which would make the game even easier than 7 or 9 IMO. However, enemies have the exact same ability to use this system, and bah gawd they will. It becomes a lot harder to calculate damage when you won't always have the benefit of knowing exactly how much damage a given character will take, and I've lost more than one character to this, which prompts a reset. (I'm sure there's a way to calculate the damage, but I just don't know it yet. If I had to guess, supporting characters do half damage.) The other major change is to the weapons system. One, weapons don't break now. This is always a great addition to games. I love Morrowind/older FE in spite of their bullshittery surrounding weapons, but a system that results in weapons breaking has never added to my experience. Two, every weapon has its own unique trait beyond the amount of damage it does. There's usually a tradeoff for buying a weapon that does higher damage. For example, Silver Weapons will reduce Str/Spd by two (and recover by one each turn), which makes using many stronger weapons more of a calculated risk. I like this system; it requires a bit more thought than "mindlessly spam Steel/Silver weaponry". There are a lot more skills that inflict damage/stat down effects, and even mooks get them. It's kind of infuriating; skills like these used to be the province of bosses, if they even existed at all. On the other hand, it makes tanking characters incredibly useful, which isn't something you can say for all past FE titles. Effie has probably been my MVP because even the hardest non-boss physical hits generally do ~5 damage to her. Niles is the MVP for magic tanking; he takes sweet fuck all and usually doubles the mages, killing them. Production values are insane. This is a huge step up from Awakening. Every major place has a breathtaking screen that shows you what it looks like. I wish they were in 3D, but I suppose you can't win them all and they might look worse in 3D anyway. The cutscenes are just incredible. The one before chapter 14 begins is amazing, with all the water effects and such. The dancing was obviously sexualized and modern, which is kind of jarring, but whatever. Music is pretty good too. Nothing on the level of "Don't Speak Her Name", but that's a high and arguably unfair bar. It's so good that it makes the music from FE10 sound... meh, and I remember liking (or at the least not minding) the music for 2-E in that game. Not sure I give a toss about My Castle/the idea of invasions. Seems like a cool idea on paper, but tedious in practice. If I wanted to build a castle town, I'd play a city builder. If I wanted online functionality, I would much rather have true PvP. Battling against another FE player would be the shit and probably even harder than Apotheosis (lol never beat it im so pro) because, you know, human thought. I'll probably do a review on this for a friend's site, so more to come at that time. Whenever I finally finish, that is. |

Roommates and I started doing Nuzlocke challenges in Fire Red / Leaf Green, seeing how who can get furthest. At least 10 of my Pokemon have died already, this game is hard af. |

Wooo finished Persona 3 Portable. Next up... uh... Well, I've started (and not finished) MGS4, The Witcher 2, Final Fantasy II, Lightning Returns, Fallout: New Vegas, and The Wolf Among Us. Maybe one of those. |

Trimming down that backlog. Finished The Witcher 2. I'd gotten to chapter 2 (of 3) a while ago, but finished it over the last week or so. I liked the story of the first game better (although it definitely got off to a slower start), but there were many improvements to the actual gameplay in the sequel. But I was pretty disappointed that alchemy seems much less necessary this time around. In the first game, potions felt essential for any kind of boss or unique enemy, or even just swarms of common enemies, but in this one, I only really felt like I had to use them if I was struggling with a boss. That was one of the things I liked about the first game -- how the preparation for combat was as important as the actual combat. Anyway, both are cool games. I can see why people hate on the first one, but the story in 2 could be hard to follow at times. It's more political and they sort of just assume you know the history of everyone and everywhere and where everything is, but I didn't. Anyway, I want to play 3, but I can wait for some kinda Enhanced Edition. |

I think mine is Wishmaster#1674 or something. Might have to confirm with Lightning. Though I won't be able to play again before the open beta ends so I guess it doesn't much matter. |

SnowmanXIV#1215 but I couldn't get into a game without dc'ing before picking a character so if I get it/play it, it might not be until I'm back on campus with my reliable Comcast internet. |

Kaarosu#1213 I don't play much games from Battle.net but just in case if I do eventually get Overwatch and the occasional Heroes of the Storm. Also, I've been playing Warframe if anyone wants to do some robot-ninja stuffs together. Edited by cscrocker, May 8 2016, 04:13 AM.

That's a shame. I'd feel better about it if it were $20. |
