DAT STORY TIEM

Oh, Living Dead and all that? Like I said, I could go on for hours about the great modes :P

@Saiyan, sorry, but I really don't like reviews which say "SPOILER ALERT" or whatever. I'm probably going to be reading a review if I want a game, so putting spoilers in them means I probably won't read it =/

Hmmmm, AC:B sounds like something worth at least giving a shot. I love the concept/history, and the game itself has never looked bad. It's just... Ewwww, Ubisoft. I don't like the things they do to "protect" their property.

I expected a trainwreck, but you're not so bad at this.

AC:B is pretty cheap lately, might end up picking it up. Loved AC2, dunno why I haven't gotten this already.
Very nice review, a lot better than I expected from you.

Not really, I just did not do many of the side missions yet. Plus I had like 3 days off in a row last week so I got through it in like no time. :)

Game: Darksiders
Consoles: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Version Reviewed: Xbox 360

REVIEW: Darksiders is an action-adventure game that borrows almost all of it's ideas from games like Legend Of Zelda and God of War. While the result isn't something groundbreaking or original, it provides on hell of a good time.

Story: Without spoiling any of the great twists and plot points, I'll point out the basis of the story. War, the first horseman of the apocalypse, stands accused of inciting a war between the three kingdoms: Heaven, Hell, and Man. Stripped of his powers by the council, a sort of mediator between the three kingdoms, War is sent back to earth one hundred years after the playable prologue to punish those responsible for the premature start of the apocalypse. The seven seals also play their part in the story, but I can't say too much without spoiling the story. Overall, I really liked the story. Fully fleshed out back-story, lots of cut scenes, and really cool characters really push players along.

Game-play: A perfect balance between brutal action and tricky puzzles. The spacing between the two is perfect, and both aspects are evenly satisfying. Combat starts simple, but as players gain souls to spend, it begins to get more complex. A full arsenal of upgrade able combos and moves, three weapons which can be switched mid-combo, and wrath moves keep game play satisfying, fun, and brutal through the whole game. Puzzles are usually pretty simple, except for The Black Throne dungeon towards the end of the game. Usually, the most intricate puzzles are side quest puzzles for weapon enhancements. These usually require quick thinking and several pieces of gear. Each weapon can be leveled up four times and equipped with weapon enhancements. The enhancements usually give stat bonuses such as more damage or elemental damage. Whereas others give large EXP bonuses, display all treasure on the current map, or add to the amount of souls rewarded for each kill. Finding the best combos is intricate, fun, and kept me involved. Additionally, players acquire Ruin, War's phantom horse, about halfway through the game. I felt like Ruin wasn't adequately handled in the game. Areas are small, and he doesn't really need to be used other than a few of the bigger maps. But he is bad ass.

Graphics and Sound The art style is amazing, and the environments look varied and great. These aren't the best in the gaming world, but still serve their purpose admirably. That said, there is some screen tearing. The voice acting is top-notch, and the writing is fantastic. A haunting score combines with a guitar driven action music really pushes the game.

Playability: The controls are perfect. Everything is where you'd think it would be, and there are no awkward controls mapped to any odd buttons.

Conclusion: Who cares how much this game ripped GoW and LoZ. I certainly don't; Especially when I had this much fun playing Darksiders. Complaints are minimal and petty, but the fun to be had is vast and well worth it. Pick of this game if you love Zelda games or GoW games. You won't regret it.

The Bottom Line:

The Pros:

+Lengthy, 20 hour campaign with great replay value.
+Great, unpredictable story line.
+Fun fluid combat
+Tricky puzzles mix up the combat sequences.
+Lots of gear, upgrades, and moves to acquire
+Lots of optional content to explore

The Cons:

-Ruin isn't implemented as well as he could have been.
-Nothing really original to speak of.

Score: 9.5/10

Game: Luigi's Mansion
Console: GameCube
Rating: E for everyone
Genre: Action/Adventure
Posted Image

Story: Mario had won a free mansion in a contest he didn't enter. About a few days later, Luigi hasn't heard back from Mario, so he goes over to the mansion himself. Luigi finds a Toad and the Toad tells Luigi that Mario has been kidnapped by this scary ghost (King Boo). Luigi then enters a room watching an old man ghost hunt with a strange vacuum. The old man took Luigi to his lab and told Luigi who he is and what not. His name is Professor E. Gadd, and that vacuum is called the Portulgust 3000. Luigi later learns how to hunt ghosts. Now E. Gadd tells Luigi that ghosts came out of his paintings, and Luigi has to hunt down all of the ghosts so E. Gadd can change them back into paintings, yet at the same time, Luigi has to save Mario. Luigi later finds that Mario is stuck in a painting.

Gameplay: Throughout the whole mansion, Luigi has to suck up ghosts. Although, all of the ghosts have a special twist on how to suck them up. For example, in order to get the ghost named Melody, you have to shake on all of the instruments in her room and a theme will play. Melody will give you a question relating to the song. Answer it correctly, you can try to suck her up. If answered incorrectly, you have to start the whole thing over. The game in general can be kinda creepy, in ways that when you are walking in a hallway, a ghost pops up behind you and makes annoying noises, or rolls out a bomb behind you. There is about 30 big ghosts to capture, including King Boo. You are also given something called the Game Boy Horror, which helps you track down Boo's & provides a map of the whole mansion. There are 4 areas. There are 6 normal ghosts and one boss ghost in each area. It's a spectacular game for a GameCube game.

Graphics & Sound: The graphics look amazing. There is so much detail in the rooms, the ghosts, and the whole mansion itself. Although, there are some rooms that aren't realistic. For example, the Armor Room. Other example include: Safari Room, Clay Room, Waterfall Room, Mirror Room, etc. Throughout the whole game, you hear the same song over and over again.
That is, the theme song. It can get annoying sometimes, but it makes the game alive. The sounds that the ghosts make though are really annoying.

Playability & Controls: It's simple how to play. Analog stick to move, camera analog stick to aim the portulgust, R to use the portulgust, L to shoot out fire, water, or ice, A to use any action, X to search w/ Game Boy Horror, and Y to view the map. As for playability, it is a long game, and there is lots to do. After you beat King Boo, there is a hidden mansion where you do the whole thing over again.

Conclusion: This is one of the most unique game out there. It's not like any Mario game where you just jump on Goombas and have to stop Bowser from taking Peach. This time, Mario is the person getting captured and King Boo acts as Bowser. This is the first video game of its kind, and the only other game that is pretty much the same is its sequel, Luigi's Mansion 2, coming out for 3DS in 2012.

The Pros:
- Lots of gameplay
- A great story
- Extremely fun
- Loads of different characters
- Many different ways to hunt the ghosts

The Cons:
- Annoying sounds

Score: 9.75/10
