"Pump It" actually uses the music from the theme song from Pulp Fiction.

Do you guys purchase what you review? That is to say, do you put your money where your mouth is? I'm not going to pass any judgment regardless of your answer, but I personally find it hard to review and recommend something I did not purchase. Anyway...

If I don't own the album, I'm not going to go through the trouble of listening to every song just to review an album I don't have.

Unless you dislike the album, listening to each song is not a trouble at all.

Artist: Queen
Album: Queen II
Released: 8 March, 1974

Posted Image

Many people who know Queen only know the hits. Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't Stop Me Now, The Show Must Go On etc. Almost all their hits are great, but what most people forget is that there is more. Their albums are filled with hidden gems, some of them way better than most hits. The album I'm going to review contains some of their best work, and one of the best songs of all time.

Queen II is Queen's second studio album, and the step between Queen (album) and Queen II is huge. While Queen (album) was more rock based (it did have some Queen characteristics, like layered guitars and vocals), Queen II is broader. Queen II introduces you to the real Queen: complex arrangements, countless overdubs and fantasy lyrics.
Queen II is divided into two sides. The White Side, with four Brian May songs and one Roger Taylor song. The Black Side, with 6 Freddie songs.

White Side:
I don't like this side. I really dislike the first half of this album, and yet this is one of my favorite albums. Brian May is an excellent musician and songwriter, but I just can't get into these songs, including the Roger Taylor one. I'm not going to spend anymore time on this side, because I DON'T LIKE IT AT ALL.

Black Side:
Freddie. This album is brilliant because of him. This side starts of with the 4 minute ''rocker'' Ogre Battle. Considering the time this was released, this is fucking heavy. Pre-thrash metal right there. The vocals, the heavy riffs, everything. This is a GREAT opener. What follows is The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke. A typical Queen song, almost 3 minutes long, catchy as hell. Another great song, and it is connected to the next song. Nevermore is an awesome one minute long ballad. Freddie actually managed to make a one minute song better than dozens of 3/4 minute songs he wrote after this album.

The next track is the one I indirectly mentioned in the first paragraph of the review (one of the best songs of all time). This song is called The March of the Black Queen. You could call this track the grandfather of Bohemian Rhapsody. It's 6:33 long, and in those 6 and a half minutes it does all kinds of stuff. It goes from a slow piano intro to a roller coaster in 45 seconds. If I recall correctly, Roger Taylor said this is the most complex thing they have ever done. I STRONGLY recommend this song.

TMOTBQ rolls into the next track. Funny How Love Is is a weird, hippie-ish song and it's a real buzz kill after TMOTBQ. I don't like it.

The last song is the single of the album. Seven Seas of Rhye is a cool short track to end the album with. Just a really good song.

Conclusion:
Even with the horrible first half of the album, this album is epic. Literally. The Black Side totally makes up for the White Side, and more.

My score for this album? 8.8
I'd give it a 9.5, but the White Side bothers me....

Tracks:

1. Procession
2. Father To Son
3. White Queen (As It Began)
4. Some Day One Day
5. The Loser in the End

6. Ogre Battle
7. The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke
8. Nevermore
9. The March of the Black Queen
10. Funny How Love Is
11. Seven Seas of Rhye

Artist: The Black Eyed Peas
Album: Monkey Business
Release: June 7, 2005
Posted Image

Review: Monkey Business was the fourth album from The Black Eyed Peas, the second with Fergie, and the last album from BEP to feature all live instruments. The material is traditional hip hop with some influences from blues, funk, and older rock music. It's good for those looking for a tasteful hip hop album.

The Good: As said before, this album was the last Black Eyed Peas album to feature live instruments, and as such, it is very musically diverse, incorporating riffs in the style of funk music, and at times, even some older rock music, like in "Pump It". The thing that makes this album enjoyable for me, however, are the guest acts, which vary from Justin Timberlake to John Legend to Sting. Keep in mind also that these are some of the most tasteful rhymes in hip hop.

The Bad: While some songs, like "Union" or "My Style" provide for some good entertainment, other songs like "My Humps" and "Ba Bump" fall flat, or are just generally annoying. Songs like these weaken the quality of an otherwise stellar album.

Conclusion: I would definitely recommend fans of older hip hop, as well as casual fans of other genres, to listen to this album. Of course, some songs, like "My Humps", I would say are better to just skip through, but if you can get past the sour grapes, the rest of the album is solid, tasteful, good hip hop music.

Score: 8/10

Track Listing:

1) "Pump It"
2) "Don't Phunk With My Heart"
3) "My Style" feat. Justin Timberlake
4) "Don't Lie"
5) "My Humps"
6) "Like That" feat. Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, Cee-Lo, and John Legend
7) "Dum Diddly" feat. Dante Santiago
8) "Feel It"
9) "Gone Going"
10) "They Don't Want Music" feat. James Brown
11) "Disco Club"
12) "Bebot"
13) "Ba Bump"
14) "Audio Delite at Low Fidelity"
15) "Union" feat. Sting

Bonus Tracks: "So Real" (after "My Humps"), "Change" (after "ADLF")

The album was alright but I'd say Elephunk>Monkey Business.

Also, Elephunk>Monkey Business>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The E.N.D.=The Beggining

Artist: The Zac Brown Band
Album: You Get What You Give
Release: September 21, 2010
Posted Image

Misc.: You Get What You Give is ZBB's second major-label album. Its first single was "As She's Walking Away", a collaboration with Alan Jackson.

Good: I was first introduced to the Zac Brown Band, like most people, with the release of The Foundation. As much as I loved that album, You Get What You Give is immeasurably better. ZBB's best strength on this album was their variety. From the Allman Brothers-esque "Who Knows", to "Knee Deep", a reggabilly collab with Jimmy Buffet himself, and even the traditional country ballads like "Colder Weather", the album has something for everybody, while still keeping a signature, menthol cool sound that has been a characteristic of the Band's music since their origin.

Bad: To be honest, I cannot give any bad points because the songs on this album are the best songs from a band that I have never heard a bad song from. Looking from someone else's perspective, however, if you are not a fan of country music, a good portion of this album will not appeal to you, though I would still recommend "Who Knows".

Conclusion: This album is a solid outing from a powerful, talented band. It features everything good about country-rock music; fiddles, three-part harmonies, and a variety of instruments, both acoustic and electric. A recommended album for everyone who has a passing interest in country music.

Score: 10/10

Track List:
1) "Let It Go"
2) "Knee Deep" feat. Jimmy Buffet
3) "No Hurry"
4) "I Play the Road"
5) "Cold Hearted"
6) "Whiskey's Gone"
7) "Quiet Your Mind"
8) "Colder Weather"
9) "Settle Me Down"
10) "As She's Walking Away" feat. Alan Jackson
11) "Keep Me In Mind"
12) "Who Knows"
13) "Martin"
14) "Make This Day

Bonus Tracks:
1) "Oh My Sweet Carolina" (Live) (iTunes Only)
2) "Nothing" (iTunes Only)
3) "Every Little Bit" (Live) (iTunes Only)
4) "Smoke Rise" (iTunes Only)

Artist: Linkin Park
Album: Minutes To Midnight
Released: May 14, 2007

Posted Image

REVIEW: My very first album. That said, it has a special place in my heart...and my CD rack. This album is a serious departure from the Nu-metal sound LP's first two releases carried in favor of a more straight forward rock sound. In fact, of the 12 songs, only two of them feature Shinoda's rapping. But, hang on a second, he still has his part. He sings in this album; and he sings well. Also firsts for Linkin Park is the inclusion of guitar solos and virtually no usage of the turntables, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The Good: "Wake" kicks off the album as an instrumental, and has a very cool feel about it. "Given Up" is notable for being one of the only "hard rock" songs on the album. Additionally, Chester's yell at the bridge of the song is 17 seconds long. You have to hear it. My favorite track is "Leave Out All The Rest", and this one is pop-rockish. It is very soothing sounding, and Chester's voice is crystal clear and smooth. "What I've Done", which has been featured in Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and the Transformers fim, is great. "No More Sorrow" contains Chester's trademark vocal style, and is the only other true hard rock song. "Valentine's Day" and "The Little Things Give You Away" both start calm and slow before kicking into third gear with full-on electric guitars and fast tempos. It is very cool. Finally, "In Pieces" has a nice guitar solo.

The Bad: While the rapped songs are catchy, they just don't stand out ("Hands Held High", "Bleed It Out"). "Shadow Of The Day" is a standard pop rock tune.

Conclusion: Definitely different from old LP. Lose the turntables, lose the (mostly) yelling from Chester. Drop the rapping (Mostly) and lose the heavy guitars. What does that leave listeners? A solid 45 minutes of mostly soothing rock music that will appeal to most lovers of rock, but will also appeal to Linkin Park fans. I, honestly, don't understand the hate, when LP released a very solid album.

Score: 8/10

Track Listing:

01. "Wake"
02. "Given Up"
03. "Leave Out All the Rest"
04. "Bleed It Out"
05. "Shadow of the Day"
06. "What I've Done"
07. "Hands Held High"
08. "No More Sorrow"
09. "Valentine's Day"
10. "In Between"
11. "In Pieces"
12. "The Little Things Give You Away"

Artist: Slash
Album: Slash
Release Date: March 15, 2010

It sucked to see Slash leaving Guns N' Roses. Nobody wanted this to happen, but people thought about what would happen to Slash? Well, he made this kickass solo album that was nominated a grammy, but GNR's wasn't, so Axl Rose pretty much screwed himself. This album was not just done by Slash and his band, he invited a guest for every song on the album. This includes Chris Cornell, Fergie, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Grohl, Myles Kennedy, and many more! This album has material that rocks today, and I listen to this album every day!

The Good

This album has so many good songs. "Ghost", featuring Ian Astbury, seemed to be the most popular song. This song has a unique mix of riffs. It's also on GHWOR. "Crucify The Dead", featuring Ozzy, starts out slow, but then gets heavy. "Beautiful Dangerous", featuring Fergie, surprised me. I didn't expect it to be as good. "Back From Cali", featuring Myles Kennedy, is a catchy song. "Promise", featuring Chris Cornell, is an interesting song, and I would never think Chris could sing this type of song. "By The Sword", featuring Andrew Stockdale, is probably my favorite song on the album, which might seem crazy. This song didn't get as popular as other, but it's just got that older rock and modern rock mix with unique riffs that sucked me into the song. "Doctor Alibi", featuring Lemmy Kilmeister, is catchy and heavy. "Watch This", featuring Dave Grohl & Duff McKagan, is an instrumental with lots of interesting riffs. This song is DLC for GH. "I Hold On", featuring Kid Rock, has lots of flavor in the vocals, but it is a slow song, and still has a crazy solo in the end. "Nothing To Say", featuring M. Shadows, is another great song, and sounds like a7x. Yes, this is DLC for GH also. "Starlight", featuring Myles Kennedy, yeah, that's right, he's got another song with Slash. This song is soulful, and beautiful. "We're All Gonna Die", featuing Iggy Pop, has a very old rock feel, and is also DLC for GH. This album is amazing.

The Bad

"Gotten", featuring Adam Levine, is a boring pop rock song. "Saint Is A Sinner Too", featuring Rocco DeLuca, is boring too.

Conclusion This album is amazing. It's full of material that should have been written a long time ago. If this were to happen when Slash left GNR, then Slash should have left earlier to write these amazing songs.

Score: 9.5/10

Track Listing:

Ghost
Crucify The Dead
Beautiful Dangerous
Back From Cali
Promise
By The Sword
Gotten
Dr. Alibi
Watch This
I Hold On
Nothing To Say
Starlight
Saint Is A Sinner Too
We're All Gonna Die
Mother Maria [Bonus Track]

Artist: Pink Floyd
Album: The Wall
Release Date: November 30, 1979

Posted Image

Disclaimer: Pink Floyd is fucking pretentious. I am a fan of Pink Floyd. I will try to not lavish them in tongue baths too much.

So, Pink Floyd is a progressive rock band. Progressive rock bands make concept albums. The Wall is a concept album. Pink Floyd made The Wall.

So, in The Wall, our protagonist is Pink (Floyd(Yes, they DID do that)). The album charts Pink's life from his days as a schoolboy to his career as a rock star. During this life, Pink experience a lot of shit. The songs are about this shit.

The Good: This is an AMAZING album (Let the tongue baths begin). Listening to it the full way through is quite the experience. If you understand the gist of the story, then following what happens during the album is pretty easy to do. Each song literally flows into the next, so you could argue that it's just one song (that repeats). High points in the album include all three parts of "Another Brick In The Wall", the sexy swagger of "Young Lust", the haunting lullaby "Mother", the guitar solos of "Comfortably Numb", "Run Like Hell"'s incredible intro, and the just plain weird "The Trial".

The Bad: Unfortunately, The Wall's greatest strength is also its greatest weakness. A good chunk of the songs are only good within the context of the whole album, making them less then interesting to listen to on their own. Prime example is "Don't Leave Me Now". During the album, it's a main shifting point in the story. By itself, it's a rather boring song with bad singing. And if you're gonna listen to the album, you better be in it for the long haul. It's about an one hour and twenty minutes.

Also, I love "Stop". The piano part is amazing. It's only 30 seconds long. WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The Verdict: I love The Wall. It's an interesting and powerful examination of the human mind and what we do to deal with trauma. The it's compulsively listenable for anyone who wants a good, long prog album. Just treat it like a movie and be prepared to listen to the whole thing.

My Opinion:10/10

To Avoid Cries of Bias: 9/10

Track Listing
01. In The Flesh?

Artist: Hinder
Album: All American Nightmare
Released: December 7, 2010

Posted Image

REVIEW: Just picked this album up. I liked the preview at the store, so I bought it. So basically, this Hinder release is heavier than "older" Hinder material. They have also infused a little southern rock into this 10-track release.

The Good: "What Ya Gonna Do" is probably my favorite track and definitely has the "sitting on a porch with a drink and a guitar" feel. Solid vocals, and nice guitar work. Title track, "All American Nightmare", is quite heavy. Goodbye "Lips Of An Angel", hello the the harder, better version of Hinder. This one is quite catchy. "Hey Ho" prominantly denounces any type of rap music, naming Lil' Wayne and Kanye to "get out of my stereo". My type of guy! It features a catchy chorus and some pretty funny lyrics. "The Life" is really good. The kick intro of the guitar about 1 minute in is a nice touch, and they added a tasteful guitar solo to the bridge. "Put That Record On" is a good closer, and "Everybody's Wrong" is solid. Excellent guitar work throughout the album. I like the album art.

The Bad: Short, wrapping up in about 30 minutes. "Waking Up The Devil" isn't very good. The are trying way too hard to be classic "rock n' roll bad boys". Lyrical themes are very straight forward; in fact, there wasn't one song that DIDN'T include reference to booze. Raspy vocals occassionally got tiring.

Conclusion: If you didn't like Hinder's previous releases, then you may wanna check out All American Nightmare. Southern rock tinged riffs/vocals with a heavier overall sound is enough to separate this release from others. This is actually pretty good.....if you can get past the fact that you're listening to Hinder. Be sure to check out "What Ya Gonna Do" and "The Life".

Score: 8/10

Track Listing:

01. "2 Sides of Me"
02. "All American Nightmare"
03. "What Ya Gonna Do"
04. "Hey Ho"
05. "The Life"
06. "Waking Up the Devil"
07. "Red Tail Lights"
08. "Striptease"
09. "Everybody's Wrong"
10. "Put That Record On"

Artist: Rascal Flatts
Album: Me and My Gang
Release: April 4, 2006
Posted Image

Misc.: Me and My Gang is Rascal Flatts's fourth studio album. 3 of its singles, "What Hurts the Most", "My Wish", and "Stand" reached No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary Tracks charts. "My Wish" was performed live on American Idol Gives Back 2007, and "Me and My Gang" is featured as downloadable content for Guitar Hero games from World Tour onward.

Good: "My Wish" helped me through a hard time in my life, and it will always have a special place in my heart. Some of the other highlights from the album are "Me and My Gang", an upbeat song about having fun with your friends, and "Backwards", which is a satire on the subject of most country songs. One of the best songs on this album, however, is "He Ain't the Leaving Kind", a song about how Jesus helps you in your life no matter who you are; He will never leave you. It's a beautiful song with a beautiful message.

Bad: Some of the songs on this album sound very alike, and at an album clocking in at about an hour, that means things can get very repetitive; I find this to be okay because I enjoy the music, but to somebody who enjoys hearing different things with every track, it's certain to be a disappointment.

Conclusion: A good album from a great band. I don't think it's their best work, but it is a good album with a few great tracks.

Score: 8.25/10

Track List:
1) "Stand"
2) "What Hurts the Most"
3) "Backwards"
4) "I Feel Bad"
5) "My Wish"
6) "Pieces"
7) "Yes I Do"
8) "To Make Her Love Me"
9) "Words I Couldn't Say"
10) "Me and My Gang"
11) "Cool Thing"
12) "Ellsworth"
13) "He Ain't the Leaving Kind"

Bonus Tracks:
1) "Life Is A Highway" (Comes 7:05 after "He Ain't the Leaving Kind"
2) "Fast Cars and Freedom" (Best Buy Special Edition only)
3) "Love You Out Loud (Live)" (Target Version only)
4) "Mayberry (Live)" (Target Version only)
5) "These Days (Live)" (Target Version only)

Artist: Disturbed
Album: Indestructible
Released: June 3, 2008

Posted Image

REVIEW: Disturbed's 4th album takes a turn in the heavy metal direction; a place they haven't truly been since their debut album. The riffs are kicked up, the solos are longer and more exciting, and the vocals are, as always, a treat to hear. David's vocal range is huge, and he displays it on several tracks.

The Good: "Indestrucible" starts off with a siren intro before kicking into high gear with an awesome riff. "The Night" is insanely catchy and features possible the best vocals on the album. A long, awesome solo is featured, and is very impresssive. "Enough" is fantastic which includes David's famous distorted voice in the intro, bridge, and outro. The range displayed here is chilling. Definitely one of my favorites on the album. "Facade", "Torn", and "The Curse" sound almost electronically inspired, especially the solos, all of which are amazing. Also, the double bass intro to "Torn" kicks ass. "Inside The Fire", "Deciever", and "Criminal" are all great in their own right.

The Bad: "Divide" is a little repetitive, and "Perfect Insanity", while still a good song, lacks any kind of memorable moment. A few errors in the lyrics book. Not really something wrong with the album per se`, but still; For those of us who like to know the lyrics, it is irritating.

Conclusion: Disturbed REAL first attempt at a heavy metal approach ends in success. The album kicks serious ass from the art, right down to the songs themselves. A few rookie errors in the lyrics book, and one or two average songs can't hold back the guy from leaping out at listeners and grabbing their attention with awesome songs and powerful lyrics.

Score: 9.5/10

Track Listing:

01. "Indestructible"
02. "Inside the Fire"
03. "Deceiver"
04. "The Night"
05. "Perfect Insanity"
06. "Haunted"
07. "Enough"
08. "The Curse"
09. "Torn"
10. "Criminal"
11. "Divide"
12. "Façade"
