Also, it's That Should Be Me, not That Should Be Mine and Bieb's album is pretty impressive.

A lot of Metalheads say that Rap sucks because it "takes no talent." A ridiculous argument but if you continue to talk to them they'll go on to tell you about who Metal is better because it takes an instrumental prowess that Hip-Hop doesn't always require. "Rap sucks because there's no blazingly fast double bass and no guitar solos," they'll argue. But that's a logical fallacy. You can't judge Hip-Hop by Metal standards. Guitar solos are a Metal standard. If Hip-Hop was trying to be Metal it would be bad Metal but it doesn't try to be. It doesn't try to reach standards of something it's not. And that's Waka Flocka Flame. It's a logical fallacy to hate on him for being a bad rapper because a good rapper isn't what he wants to be. And as party music, as hype music, he's quite successful.

But metalheads aren't logical. They'll conveniently ignore that the voice is an instrument in the case of rap because "they're talking really fast", all the while extolling how someone screams or sings in metal, which are merely just other ways of using said instrument. Don't expect metalheads to acknowledge this though. They'll also develop sudden bewilderment when you tell them even the artists who supposedly "sold out" have to eat, as if metal acts are supposed to live in poverty or off charity or some shit.

I like the review. Not sure the music is my thing, unless I'm drinking, then it seems like it would be right up my alley. Almost anything sounds fucking awesome when drinking.

Very well said.

Also, I'm going to post a review of My World 2.0. An ACTUAL review.

Artist: Justin Bieber
Album: My World 2.0
Release: March 19, 2010
Posted Image
Misc.: My World 2.0 is Justin Bieber's second part of his debut album. Its first released single was "Baby", a song featuring Ludacris, that has become either famous or infamous, depending on who you speak to.

REVIEW

Good: Many of the good things about this album will come as a surprise to the majority of the internet population. For instance, Bieber had a hand in the writing of every song on the album. The vocal and instrumental effects on this album, when used, are used tastefully, and do not overwhelm the young Canadian singer. Despite this, his best songs are, in my opinion, "Overboard" and, my personal favorite, "That Should be Me", two songs in which Bieber's voice is never put through any effects, allowing the true power and purity of it to shine through.

Bad: For a singer who, at the release of this album, was 15, I find it suspicious that literally every song on the album is a love song or a breakup song. In addition, though Bieber's voice is obviously naturally high-pitched, he also seems to stretch his range even farther at times, which results in him sounding slightly off-pitch. The most negative aspect of this album, however, is that the lyrics get repetitive at times. I was also somewhat disappointed that "Somebody to Love" was not, as I previously had hoped, a cover of the Queen hit, though I did enjoy his version.

Conclusion: This is a solid, modern, R&B/Pop album. The album has a sort of repetitive rut in the middle of the album, with the songs at the very beginning and the very end being much more entertaining. Despite this, and some pitch problems throughout the album, the album is actually quite an enjoyable listen, if you keep an open mind, and don't listen to the trolls.

Score: 7.75/10

Track List:
1) "Baby" feat. Ludacris
2) "Somebody to Love"
3) "Stuck In the Moment"
4) "U Smile"
5) "Runaway Love"
6) "Never Let You Go"
7) "Overboard" feat. Jessica Jarrell
8) "Eenie Meenie" feat. Sean Kingston
9) "Up"
10) "That Should Be Me" feat. Rascall Flatts

Bonus Tracks:
1) "Kiss and Tell" (iTunes version or Japanese version)
2) "Where Are You Now" (Wal-Mart version, Australian version, or Japanese version)

Almost anything sounds fucking awesome when drinking.

Agreed.

And about the metalhead discussion, I agree there. Most metalheads simply aren't open minded at all, and that annoys the hell out of me, but I suppose it's that way in all ends of the music spectrum.

*edit*
@Kris, massive and good review. I am buying the box-set too...but I don't think I can wait any longer. I think I need to download the album now.

@Freshey, nice review, I always find it interesting to read a review of such an infamous album by a forum member.

@nascargo, gtfo.

Album: Chase This Light

Welp, figured I oughtta give my favorite band a shot at this.

I never really got around to doing an album review since it’s really not how I do things when I listen to music. I don’t have full albums – if I like a song, sure, I listen to it. But I search for individual tracks and pick out what I enjoy from what I don’t enjoy. As a result, I’ve never had a complete album where I can claim “I honestly enjoy every song on this disk”. Chase This Light is the closest I come to this statement, and… well, there’s a reason for that.

The good:
Heh. Well, for those who don’t know, JEW is my favorite band of all time – for a long while, I went through a phase where I claimed not to enjoy music. This changed when I heard JEW’s “Pain” and went “uh, damn, this is good stuff”. Shortly afterwards, I had a day where a certain song got stuck in my head and, having little to no musical knowledge, I couldn’t place what song it was. I forget exactly how I came across the song again, but this turned out to be one of JEW’s most popular songs – “Sweetness”. At that point, hearing these two songs by this band I had heard of but never acknowledged its existence, I decided once and for all that I did enjoy music after all.

So that’s kinda irrelevant. Felt like having a bit of a backstory. Anyways, I think the reason I enjoy JEW is simply because of their feel-good, upbeat style. Yeah, they started as an emo band for a long while – I’m no professional music analyst, and I’m simply writing about this music without relation to others, so I honestly couldn’t tell you if it currently bears any sort of semblance to other early emo bands like (gogo Wikipedia… hell if I know if any of these are valid) Sunny Day Real Estate, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, and others. But Chase This Light’s songs just make you feel good – stuff like Always Be, Electable (Give It Up), and Here It Goes aren’t written to make you sit back and think about how deep they are, how the lyrics are so edgy and different. They’re just fun.

Chase This Light is also varied in that it carries other works similar to their others fans might recognize from Bleed American and Futures – the harder, “rock-ier” side of Big Casino and Let It Happen are flashbacks to stuff like Pain and Bleed American, two of their most endeared songs; the featured track Chase This Light and Work; some tracks like Dizzy and Firefight are ones I can’t relate to anything else but still have that distinctive JEW sound. JEW doesn’t push any unseen boundaries, try to change the genre, or be anything more than they already are. That’s fine by me. I listen to these guys for a pick-me-up song I can play over and over again. And Chase This Light delivers just that.

The not-so-good:
JEW is a pretty well-known band – if only by name. Those who know JEW may know some of their most popular tracks – Sweetness, Pain, My Best Theory (released after CTL, but still), and of course, The Middle. Songs like these bring JEW a name, something that people enjoy and that make JEW more than just a one-hit wonder. The issue? You don’t have that with Chase This Light. There are tracks that I’m sure people enjoy but nothing that would garner much radio time; I enjoy listening to them, sure, but because I’m a fan and have been for a while now. Somewhere down the line, JEW’s going to stop producing music, and down the road, when people remember them, I get the feeling that the first song that comes to peoples’ minds wouldn't be anything off of CTL. In that regard, well, CTL probably doesn’t exactly imitate the songs that brought JEW to fame, and because it doesn’t push the boundaries of what it’s currently done, it’s basically a “you like JEW, try it – if not, don’t bother” type of deal. It’s safe and if you’re looking for something new and different from JEW, you’ve come to the wrong album.

I can’t assign a numerical value to this album. I can attach a number to music like in the Song Contest when compared side-by-side with other music but that isn’t the case here, so ehh.

Track List:
1. Big Casino
2. Let It Happen
3. Always Be
4. Carry You
5. Electable (Give It Up)
6. Gotta Be Somebody’s Blues
7. Feeling Lucky
8. Here It Goes
9. Chase This Light
10. Firefight
11. Dizzy

My next four reviews will all be on Brad Paisley albums. I will do 5th Gear, Play, and American Saturday Night. Those three will be leading up to my review of This Is Country Music, which I plan to review on its release date.

DAT STORY TIEM

Scenes From A Memory
Dream Theater

Review
You all know I love Dream Theater, and I finally got my hand on this album, so I thought I'd review it. This is a concept album.

I'll just throw this out here at the very start: I LOVE this album. I don't say that about every single Dream Theater album ever, either. This album is easily one of the best, if not THE best album I've ever heard. The story told in Scenes From A Memory is great and keeps your attention. I could go on about the story, but I'd be here all day, and you can hear that for yourself, and there's another reason I'm not going to go on about it. There is some truly incredible music in this album. Every song would be a band's biggest hit, and the songs just sound so... perfect. Everything is beautiful, and the album just flows together so perfectly. It's more like one huge song rather than an album, and the song is absolutely incredible. Some songs sound more like solo songs, such as Strange Deja Vu or Fatal Tragedy. Every song is absolutely brilliant, and I repeat that. The opening track is a bit odd but sets the scene well, and the follow-up, Overture 1928, is truly a fantastic piece of music.

Er, I don't have much to say. I'm trying to think of bad things and I really can't think of anything. This album doesn't even have the usual Dream Theater "technical for the sake of technical" thing going on (except the Dance of Eternity, with an INSANE 104 time signature changes in 6 minutes). And even then it's not obnoxiously technical. The album is, of course, technical, but it's not like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence in which every song was in 9/4 or something awkward just because they could, which detracted from the experience. This album has fantastic drums, Godly guitar, ridiculous bass and sexy keyboard throughout. I'm going a little fanboyish here, but everything in this album is just incredible. The effects on some songs are simply incredible. Let me give an example.

The opening track, Regression, starts out with simply a clock. A man then starts giving a voiceover saying to "close your eyes" and "imagine a brilliant white light". It sounds almost like a medication class and an acoustic guitar slowly comes in. I mean REALLY slowly. It slowly gets louder and louder as the man counts down from ten. When he says "one", James L'Brie starts singing and the guitar is fully clear.

Another example is Strange Deja Vu where James sings in his normal voice with a high pitched scream audible in the background, as if the screaming voice is the emotions he truly feels.

I'll conclude the written part of the review with a simple comment. Listen to "Beyond This Life". You will not regret it. If you're able to, listen to it in Stereo, as well. This song is absolutely incredible, and definitely one of the best songs Dream Theater have ever written. It's one of my favourite songs now! =D
