I just watched Source Code tonight. While it wasn't spectacular or anything, it was very entertaining. The ending was completely predictable, and I guessed it from pretty much the beginning of the movie, but at least it wasn't a bad ending. It was an enjoyable movie. |

It's time for another wall of stuff. It's time for another wall of stuff. Before The Devil Knows You're Dead-My favorite part of this movie was easily Phillip Seymour Hoffman's acting. It's also one of those great everything come back to haunt you and tie together thrillers that actually requires intelligence to write. I quite liked it, but I wouldn't put it near the top of my list. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button-For a three hour movie, it sure fixates on the beginning. His elderly self hogs so much screen time that it seems like the second half is rushed. The concept is better than the screenplay. Not bad, not great. Gone With the Wind-I realize it's adapted from a book, so it's really more a criticism of the source material, but there's hardly a coherent plot; it's just the life and times of a bitchy southern belle. The first act and the second half of the second act were great, but the first half of the second act was just tired. Vivien Leigh was terrific though. The Usual Suspects-I didn't really get it. Not that I didn't understand what happened, but I didn't get it. The movie seemed to be comprised of tiny sideplots (New York's Finest Taxi Service) that had little bearing. The super famous twist ending is super predictable also, however it had a nice detail that I was expecting that saved it for me. It's horrifically overrated though. Amadeus-Read on online summary and save yourself the trouble of actually trying to decipher a consistent story through the three hour drudge. In words it seems like a lovely premise, but that's just it. Most of the movie is idle irrelevancies that didn't really enhance it in any way. Had it decided to stick it itself, it might've not been really boring. The copious amount of opera scenes was also a nuisance. I realize that's the point, and was fine with the first few, but you can only take so many 10 minute performances that aren't actually part of the plot. Bonnie and Clyde-Ignoring the fact that there was essentially no setup, Bonnie pretty much just says, "Oh, you're a robber, can I travel with you and kill people now?" it deserves its credit. The one wife was terribly annoying also, and there really wasn't any real reason for it other than building tension. Trainspotting-This movie kinda tricks by making you think you've found the plot, and then starts another one right at the end that's resolved within 20 minutes, which is pretty disarming since it seems tacked on and disregards the first part, but overall the most annoying thing was the visual hallucinations that rarely occurred. If you're going to do a trippy daydream sequence, don't do two and stop, it makes those two seem half-assed. Those two things aside though, it's a sordid and often funny exploration into drugs, addiction, and the way out. Creature From The Black Lagoon-I wasn't going to actually review this cheesy A- horror classic, but then I realized I might as well because I had something to say about it. The problem with this, and most horror movies today, is that the main villain gets too much screen time. You're not scared of something you've grown accustomed to. That being said, the thing that did make me enjoy this movie more than it sounds like, is it's ability to start a confrontation scene at the least expected moments, so even though the familiarity detracts from it, there's still atmospheric suspense. Lady Vengeance-It's a South Korean thriller from the same director as Oldboy that I reviewed a while ago. While not as surprising or witty as Oldboy, I'd say this was the more emotional of the two. Chan-Wook Park has talent as a director, and I hope to see more of his movies. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid-I went into this with high hopes which didn't make sense since I have a natural aversion to westerns. Even though there was no lone rider coming into town in this movie, there was an undeniable western twang that I couldn't shake (until setting changes to Bolivia). Before that though, it feels like the running is aimless. Yes, they have to get away, but in all of the escape scenes, plot advancement is held hostage. The new True Grit was a superior western in my eyes, but I'd still put this above the neutral line. Deep Red-After reading other people's rave reviews about Suspiria, Dario Argento's supposed masterpiece, I was skeptical of watching this, since I wasn't crazy about the aforementioned. I'm glad I did watch it though. This does everything right that CFtBL did wrong. It keeps the intense suspense on throughout and themes it with some modern self-detective noir. But just because the killer isn't in every scene doesn't mean that there isn't time for grizzly deaths. There are plenty. This takes place among my favorite horror movies. Misery-The problem with movies that take place in a single setting is that they take place in a single setting. It gets dull. Kath Bates's acting is the only thing keeping this alive past half an hour. I also didn't like how it dove straight into the plot with no buildup at all. Also, the epilogue seemed tacky and a failed attempt at...something. Being John MalkovichThe whole movie lives in the shadow of its own screenplay, being one of those dashingly surreal and alarming original ones. It's also one of those movies where loose details come back and tie into knots. I can't complain about anything other than the weird, kind of uncomfortable settings, but nothing really matters when compared to the thought of married people knowingly having an affair with the same person via someone else's body. Mother-Another South Korean thriller, but not by the same director, and not nearly as violent. This movie had an okay idea, but it was executed so boringly throughout most parts, and after the shocking climax, milks itself to a point of being tedious. Emotion however, is not lacking. |

Just watche No Country For Old Men. It's basically: a guy finds money, a hitman goes after him to get it back, Tommy Lee Jones tries to stop him, and murderous rampages ensue. Pretty good. Very good acting. |

I recently saw Captain America in 3D. The first movie I have seen in theaters since the first Cars. Not the best movie ever. It had a few funny moments but other then that it wasn't all that great. Frankly, I wanted to see the Smurfs but he said no, thought about Transformers because I've heard there is nascars, but that was done showing for the day. |

Captain America. The primary reason I went to see it was the Avengers. It was a decent movie, with some funny Tommy Lee Jones moments. |

Transformers was amazing. You should have seen it. Anyway, the last movie I saw was Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. It was pretty dramatic, and a great movie too. |
