Predator. It was pretty good, but Alien was a little better, in my opinion. |

The Big Lebowski-I didn't find this movie as funny as it's apparently supposed to be. That detracts from it a fairly significant amount. Carlito's Way-I'm just gonna be honest and say that I hated this movie just because the ending was terrible. Any moral or entertainment value there was were both simultaneously slaughtered. Also, there was a fairly glaring plotholel, but spoilers and what not. Blue Velvet-My only real complaint here is that the impromptu detective scenes were much better than the dealing with the enemy parts, and I wish the former had lasted longer than it did. Metropolis-Two main complaints about this movie. One is a plothole that didn't make any sense. The second is that for a movie that's supposed to be empowering to the undermined working class, it portrayed them as an idiotic lynch mob of lemmings. I didn't understand it. Let Me In-It's the English remake of Let the Right One In with that girl who kills everyone in Kick-Ass. Pretty much, it forsook some storytelling and wasn't as compelling as the original, however it was certainly more moviesque, with better cinematography and acting or whatever else. I still prefer the original. Taking out the cat scene made me sad, I wanted to see that with proper special effects. Network-Just like is fairly predictable, a movie about a TV syndicate's struggle for ratings can get a bit long and boring. What saves it is the highlights of the plot and realization that what they're doing ACTUALLY HAPPENS. Pretty much, a newsanchor freaks out and has a breakdown, but rather than helping him, they give him his own show to be an insane bastard, for the sake of boosting ratings. It's not a very interesting story, so if you have ADD, don't bother, but it is a gripping story. Full Metal Jacket-I could only stand watching this because it's not really a war movie. Anyway, it seems like one of those movies where lots minor events make up [the second half] of the plot, and that takes away from it. Still not bad, and better than 2001 or The Killing. Also, that guy from Law & Order overacted his scene. Do the Right Thing-I watched this hoping it would make me appreciate Spike Lee. It made me want to eviscerate him. THERE ARE NO BLACK PEOPLE ON THE WALL BECAUSE IT'S AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT. HOW FUCKING STUPID ARE YOU? Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels-There are sooo many character groups. Not characters per se, but different factions that interact with each other. And honestly, even though I understood it, it's probably one of the most complicated movies under two hours in existence. Being someone who values the screenplay over all other elements of a movie, this certainly entertained me. Assault on Precinct 13-I only watched this movie because of John Carpenter. The movie only has one song in the soundtrack, or so it seems. They just play different parts of it. Thankfully, they don't use it that much, and it's not a bad song. It's a fairly obviously B action movie, however for the genre of, "THERE'S CONVENIENTLY NOTHING WE CAN DO BUT KILL ALL THE BADDIES BY OURSELVES," there really weren't plotholes. Also, the main characters had good character development, but the bad guys had essentially none. At times I forgot why there even was an assault. |

Just got back from The Rise of the Planet of the Apes and I've go to agree with Donny, it was very well done. I really enjoyed it. The only bad part was that I had to pee pretty bad for like the last 45 minutes, but that doesn't have anything to do with the movie, i.e. I recommend it. If you want to go to the movies, check out TRotPotA. |

Alright, I'm gonna do a little review here. Before anything else, I want to inform you of three facts: 1. I have never seen The Blair Witch Project or Paranormal Activity. 2. I don't really like horror/scary movies, and don't really intend on changing it anytime soon. 3. I generally believe that aliens exist. Maybe not that they abduct us or anything, but I think that there is life out there. I will also do this in two parts. Now without further ado, here's The Fourth Kind! PT. 1 So, I'm hanging with some friends and we're a little bored. My friend suggests that we watch this movie, because he really liked it. I had heard of this movie a while back, but didn't really know much about it besides the fact that it's about alien abductions. So we pop it in. In the first scene, Milla Jovovich comes out to say: "I'm actress Milla Jovovich, and I will be portraying Dr. Abigail Tyler in The Fourth Kind. This film is a dramatization of events that occurred October 1st through the 9th of 2000, in the Northern Alaskan town of Nome. To better explain the events of this story, the director has included actual archived footage throughout the film. This footage was acquired from Nome psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler, who has personally documented over 65 hours of video and audio materials during the time of the incidents. To better protect their privacy, we have changed the names and professions of many of the people involved. Every dramatized scene in this movie is supported by either archived audio, video or as it was related by Dr. Tyler during extensive interviews with the director. In the end, what you believe is yours to decide. Please be advised, that some of what you're about to see is extremely disturbing." So at this point two thoughts enter my head. 1. Hmmm based on a true story? With real footage? Interesting... 2. What's with that "In the end, what you believe is yours to decide" shit? What am I watching, one of those shows that show you a picture of a shadow, implies it's a UFO, but then tells you it's up to you to decide whether it's true or not? It's like fucking Ghost hunters or some shit. I suppress that last thought and head into the movie. The movie is about Dr. Abbey Tyler, who goes to Nome, Alaska to finish her late husband's work in psychology after he was killed. While there, she discovers a slew of people experience sleeping problems. They all claim to see a barn owl staring them down while they're trying to sleep and hear strange noises like someone is opening their front doors. Tyler investigates this matter through some questionable methods. She uncovers evidence that supports the theory that these people were abducted. Sounds interesting right? It turns out to be really bad. I mean, legitimately shitty. There are a few interesting parts like in the archived footage shown where
a disturbed patient of Dr. Tyler murders his wife and kids, then himself, in front of cops and the doctor
. But most of the dramatized parts are just horrible, being WAY over-dramatized and having a terrible script. Milla Jovovich can't act and neither can anyone else in it. Most of the "characters" portrayed in the film are shown in such an unlikable way that you really don't care what happens to them. The fact that it's shot in a pseudo-documentary style lessens the impact of anything that happens. There's a twist within the story that just makes you go "Huh? That doesn't make sense." (And not in a good way). Overall, just bad. When I was watching it, I noticed something odd. The whenever the real life footage shows something interesting happening, like a UFO appearing over a house, or a man levitating and contorting his body over his bed, the footage gets all staticy and distorted. I'm sitting here thinking. "Well that's odd. It's like they don't wanna show me something". I take note of this and continue. When we were finished, we discussed the movie. I voiced my opinion that the movie was bad. I also noted that if they had just cut the documentary angle, wrote it as just a movie and not some "exposition", and hired some decent actors, it probably could've turned out interesting and maybe I would've given a shit about what was going on. But alas, we're left with this. When I get home, I go to research the events that the movie is about. I mean alien abductions amirite? But when I search the wikipedia page, I find a few odd things. Wait a minute, it's a mockumentry? And why is archived footage in quotation marks? I need to investigate this. Well guess what? EVERYTHING IN THAT MOVIE WAS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY MADE UP! PT. 2 Yep. It's all fake. I was utterly flabbergasted that this movie would go to such lengths to say, "OMG OMG IT'S SO REAL AND SCARY", and then be completely. I mean, where do these people get off pulling this kind of shit? All of that "archived footage" is faked. None of the people portrayed in this movie ever existed. I really am in fucking shock here. *calms down* Alright, in retrospect, I really should have seen that coming. The archived footage was actually faked pretty well, besides the aforementioned static when anything cool happens. But the "true story" that the movie is "based" on is so fucking stupid and convoluted, it couldn't have happened. Near the end, there's that twist at the end. It honestly calls into question the sanity of all those that knew Dr. Tyler. Anyone of these people who let Tyler practice medicine who knew this twist is fucking retarded. The fact that it prides itself in being a "true story" with no irony in that fact just pisses me off. The fact that the best part of this movie is less than it should be just saddens me. It really gives the movie no positive points. But even more saddening is the fact that this could have been much, much better. The actual concept of the abductions and the idea of losing your shit because of it is actually kinda interesting, backed up by the fact that the few interesting parts had to do with that. So yeah. You shouldn't watch this. It's a crappy movie that disappoints in about every way possible. I've really got to stop listening to this friend. He's got horrible taste in everything... I mean, he was emotionally moved by Sucker Punch. |

Watched "I Am Number" four a while ago. It was...decent. Wouldn't watch it again, but I guess if you like superheroish teenish movies, I guess it could be worth a look. Also watched the Jurassic Park trilogy over a series of days, love the movies, watched the third last night. Childhood favourites of mine. :P I was very interested in dinosaurs as a child, but then the interest faded. And yesterday I watched the 1989 Batman movie. I've seen it before, but it's got to be over three years since last time. Batman rawks, and so does the movie. |
