Ha yeah people give him a lot of shit for singing that part. It's a great song though. Clint is one of my favorite directors AND actors. He's a bad ass motherfucker. |

I couldn't stand Unknown and quit after 20 minutes. It just all seemed so bland. A series of incredibly precise misfortunes just so happens to lead to a disaster that than transmogrifies into an identity crisis thriller with weak attempts at international ties and conspiracies for the sake of holding onto the style and fanbase of Taken. If the Europeans are all bad guys thing wasn't obvious enough, they even have the same lead actor and simple one-word titles. The book it's based on is not called Unknown, so I really do believe it was an attempt to leech popularity. But what you like doesn't really affect me. Just my thoughts while the subject's up. Also, as far as Taken goes, I actually thought it was fairly good. Not good like strongly scripted or acted, but it succeeded in what it attempted, which is really all I want out of a shoot-first-ask-questions-later-but-we-cut-those-scenes-out thriller. |

Just wondering, but did you ever read a summary of what happens after the 20 minutes? There's a rather large plot twist at the end, and it turns out being a lot simpler than what was implied. However, the plot twist might as well have been a giant trollface or one of those "IT WAS ALL A DREAM" scenarios -- it just wasn't a great plot twist. |

You're hurting your case. Dayum Mac. You like it and all you've seen are the beatings and rapes? You're a sociopath! The best parts come after where you stopped. |

I wasn't trying to convince you it was a great movie. I was just asking if you read the ending of it. |

From Dusk Till Dawn-What the fuck. Enter the Void-I went out on a limb with a trippy indie movie. I don't even know. This movie is two and a half hours, and somehow after watching it you'll only be able to remember the Love Hotel scene. In case you forgot that this is an indie movie and doesn't need to be mainstream appropriate, yes, the entire scene is blowjobs and humping and other fun stuff. It took me a while to even figure out WHY that scene was in there, because you see, it literally takes about 10 minutes of cutting back and forth between graphic sex scenes. But don't worry, the rest of the movie is filled with sex scenes and some hinted Oedipal fantasies, so that makes it more fun. Now even ignoring the fact that it's a porno with a plot, you still have to deal with the fact that there really isn't that much of a plot. The main character gets shot in the first 20 minutes, and then his body floats around following people he knew for the next 130 minutes. Also, in the true art of avant garde-ness, until his death, (and even after, but less noticeably) the film is shot from his perspective. Every detail down to blinking. Yeah, the screen flashes black randomly to show blinking. Yeah, it is annoying. You may be wondering, "Why is this review so long is this movie is so pointless and bad?" Because it's not a bad movie, it's just a fucking psychotic one. If you feel like being high but your dad is a police officer and you love watching people have sex, go for it. I honestly can't even say how much I liked it because it's just such a hot mess. The Fly-More gross than scary, but some sentimental moments. Really only worth the watch for the references though. And I don't want to undermine the gross factor. It's gross. Poltergeist-This movie has runtime syndrome. The plot is resolved and everything should be fine, and then something else happens that drags it along. It had its moments, but overall isn't scary or even atmospheric. Ironically though, the post-plot part is actually the best part. The Lost Boys-Dear god the Coreys cannot act. This is a cult classic and shouldn't be taken for anything more. It's a campy vampire story for bored teenagers. At least it's entertaining enough. The Graduate-Strange movie. I had this weird feeling while watching it that no coherent storyline was ever set up. Stuff happened, but it had no buildup and you suddenly realized that what you just saw was supposed to be important. The point of the movie is obviously to question the morality of the main character, and it succeeds pretty bluntly in that. Also, dat ending. The Fighter-For some reason I liked this movie more after watching it than when I actually watched it. The annoying thing was that two main characters both at least kinda had accents, but they weren't really the same accent, which is annoying for supposed brothers. Not one for any special list of mine, but the best of the surrounding. Raging Bull-I tried to keep the boxing streak going, but what the hell, Scorsese? It ultimately failed everything it tried, the characters didn't make any sense, and the plot just kinda shriveled up at died not even at the end. The last maybe half hour was just THERE. I understand the point that was trying to be made, but it didn't really stick or fit. No one would care about this movie if not for DeNiro, Pesci, and Scorsese. Rain Man-I was under the impression that this movie was about a retarded man counting cards. I was right for about ten minutes. I don't care how good his acting was, Dustin Hoffman's character was annoying. Don't try to be an upstanding citizen and say he wasn't. I understand the condition and I know it's not his fault, but that doesn't make it not annoying. While not a bad movie, it was pretty bland. Risky Business-Tom Cruise streak gogogo. I actually decently enjoyed this movie. Not loved, but I don't regret watching it. I know it's no marvel of screenwriting, but it's still fine. I wasn't crazy about the ending though. A Tale of Two Sisters-I like twist endings. This film taught me that I don't like twist middles. No, I'm not joking, there's a twist in the center of this Korean horror/psychological thriller. The problem there being the psychological thriller part. It's actually a really scary movie (when it wants to be), until the twist middle. Then you're just left staring at the screen for an hour in utter disappointment. Granted, the end picks the beginning back up and gets better, but the middle totally fucked this. It could've been a great movie, but showing all the cards in the middle of suspense is never a good move. The Bicycle Thief-I don't honestly know why this film is so celebrated. I only remember it for being old and one of those movies where unchangeable circumstances make the main character's life absolutely suck, and every attempt to fix it just makes it worse. I think there's supposed to be a moral at the end, but honestly, I was so pissed at the non-main characters that I could hardly watch the end. In case you were wondering it's one of those, "We're making offensive assumptions about you and you're not smart enough to explain the story," things. Some Like It Hot-Thank god we got back into good movies. It's funny, quirky, strangely dark, immersive, and has Marilyn Monroe. /review Buried-You may know it as that one movie where Ryan Reynolds is the only actor, only playing one character. Or maybe as the movie where Ryan Reynolds makes phone calls for an hour and a half all the while not moving. Both are correct. Strangely enough, despite taking place entirely in a coffin, this movie is interesting. The cinematography seemed to have ADHD and would switch shots in the middle of a normal event, which seemed unnecessary, but the alternative is to watch a webcam feed of a guy in a box for 90 minutes. A lot of people hated the ending. I loved it. St. Elmo's Fire-Not as good as The Breakfast Club, but also not really a teen movie. Emilio got jipped, his storyline was stupid and unrelated to everything. The other plots were fine. The highlight isn't the depressing revelations about growing up, but rather the amount of stuff you can do by getting a ton of diverse characters, and sporadically mixing and matching them. The Boondock Saints-I don't really get why this is so famous. It was an okay criminal action flick, but the direction, mostly regarding the first half, was terrible. I did however like the flashbacks between the crimes and investigations of the crimes. |

In school, we watched 10 Things I Hate About You, 'cause we had to read Taming of the Shrew over the summer. Umm it was definitely one of the more enjoyable movies I've had to watch at school, but I prefer movies that aren't high school drama stuff, when given a choice. |

I just saw "Gamer" starring Gerard Butler. It reminded me of the late 80s Schwarzenegger flick "The Running Man." Gamer takes death row inmates and puts them in a real life fps game where they are controlled by wealthy players, some of whom grow to be minor celebrities depending on how well they do. There is also a real life "The Sims" style of game where people can get paid to be controlled and be a real life avatar for someone else 8 hrs a day. All in all, lots of action, gratuitous sexual content and nudity. If this sounds good to you, check it out. |
