I forgot to link you to this back when I mentioned Enter the Void. Just to give you a feel of how trippy the movie is, watch the intro credits. I promise you they aren't boring. However I will warn you that it will probably kill you instantly if you're epileptic. You have to wait till 0:43 for it to get lethal amounts of psychedelic. |

Pulp fiction-y sci-fi horror movies from the 50's are always so terrible they're awesome. I haven't done one of these in forever: Thirst-A Korean vampire flick from the director of Oldboy and Lady Vengeance. I like my Park Chan-Wook. I wasn't really looking forward to seeing this, but it was actually really good. It dragged on, at a fairly unnecessary two and a half hours, but whatever. Not better than Let Me In/Let the Right One In, but still an intelligent movie in an abused subgenre. Apocalypto-This movie had that sad drawback of having a different, more dull plot than you that it did, but also was surprising in the amount of emotion that it blunted stabs you repeatedly with...because it's violent and stuff. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas-Watch until they rent the car. Then stop or you might be forced to shoot yourself. The rest of the bumbling two hours have little logic, humor, or really anything entertaining at all. Enter the Dragon-I could, but won't, try to pretend like this was anything other than a martial arts fight scene in the guise of a revenge thriller. Does that make it bad? Well, that depends on if you like fight scenes. The plus side is that it isn't unrealistic. There's no Matrix-style fighting that makes you wonder how normal people are supposed to be doing that just because they're Asian. Sin Nombre-A really sentimental gang/immigration drama that I was really liking, but the ending just kinda...meh. It's not a terrible ending, and it makes sense, but it seems like there were better choices. Oh, also, in Spanish. The Conversation-If this movie was shorter, it would've been better. I like long movies, but there isn't even a very coherent plot until you get to the end and realize what was happening all along. The Virgin Suicides-I just now realized that this director is the movie directly above's director's daughter, and I watched them in a row. Weird. Anyway, this film is kinda haunting. Not that it's scary, but it's so weird, and I love the perspective. It's an intense family drama, that's from the perspective of the creepy stalker kids across the street who have no idea what's happening, so it's essentially a mystery with no solution. Crazy stuff. That's also the downside though, what actually happens makes no sense since it's never explained on purpose. I Saw the Devil-Bring on the Korean revenge movies (AKA every Korean movie apparently). I was honestly expecting this to be more violent. Not that it isn't, but it had very few Saw-esque moments. It's another one of those movies where the morality is essentially the main plot, but that's not the captivating part, no no. The final scene is the real intrigue. Did I like it? Yes, but without the strangely impactful without really making an impact ending it would've been forgettable. Trick 'r Treat-I went off the path with this one, just because it was October. It's a direct-to-DVD movie, and that's really a shame. It's essentially Crash, but with horror plotlines. (Crash is about completely irrelevant events that happen at different people at the same time that slightly overlap.) The acting was fairly regrettable at some times, just because of the low budget, but the plotlines were actually solid and this may be one of my favorite horror movies. Also, look at the main character, he's adorable*. Cronos-Fuck you, Guillermo del Toro, this movie was atrocious. It tried to be an original take on vampires, and it was, but it was a terrible take on movies. The script was stupid and acting was terrible. Good Will Hunting-It's weird that I don't have that much to say about this movie. I liked it, didn't love it, and I don't really know what to say. Entre Nos-Falls into the dilemma a lot of movies that just consist of a lot of separate events do, in that one particular event slightly overstrides the rest and makes it seem like the movie was about that, when it really wasn't all that important overall. It was okay, but as far as Spanish movies go, stick with Pan's Labyrinth, Sin Nombre, and from what I've heard, The Secrets in Their Eyes. An American Werewolf in London-I liked this movie and I don't really know why. It wasn't really good...it's kinda like a catchy song. They aren't necessarily good, but everyone loves them anyway. Sling Blade-I didn't know Billy Bob Thorton had the capacity to write an original screenplay like this. It was actually really good, and pretty thought-provoking, although it does get boring occasionally. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance-Meh, it was fairly predictable and just thoroughly not that interesting. Sorry, Park Chan-wook, you'll always have the other 2/3 of the sequence. Chinatown-This movie made me realize that: 1. I love Jack Nicholson. 2. I love Faye Dunaway. 3. I love neo-noir. Scream-I know, it's weird that I haven't seen this before. I was surprised by how good it actually was, whilst being a mockery of itself. Granted, I'll never watch any of the sequels for my own sanity. Jackie Brown-What happened here, Quentin Tarantino? It's pretty much a really long version of The Killing with modernized themes. Really pretty boring for a lot of its time. Howl's Moving Castle-If you're willing to get past the fact that it made no sense at all, and every adult male had stupid hair, then it was fine I suppose, but not Miyazaki's best. Go watch Spirited Away. |

AMC is having a Stephen King marathon. I is happy. Anyways: Carrie - oh wow this movie. I almost couldn't tell it was a horror movie, outside of the telekinesis and the holy-fuck-this-bitch-is-crazy mom. But the end. ........holy shit..... I recommend. Secret Window - Hey, I remember reading this book! *watches* D: They changed the end!! Why would they do that!!! But really, other than that, it was a pretty good movie. |

Posted Image In honor of Halloween, the horror movies I've seen recently: Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer-It's not really scary as much as disturbing. Not in the normal slasher way, but just kinda fucked up. What was disappointing was that the most disturbing scene lost all of its impact since it had already pretty much exactly happened in A Clockwork Orange. Paranormal Activity 2-Wtf ending. They obviously took a more direct approach in this one, as the weird fight-esque scene would testify to, but that was all okay. The ending was stupid. First one is better. Halloween (Original)-What starts off as suspenseful gets pretty old the 20th time Michael Myers is standing in the background to a scene, then is suddenly gone. Granted, eventually it becomes something, but the build up is pretty unnecessarily long. Dawn of the Dead (Remake)-I've seen this movie before, but whatever. It may be lacking 'political satire' that a lot of zombie movies have, but when you watch zombie movies, are you honestly looking for political commentary? I'm actually pretty fond of this movie. The Shining-First of, any movie that you have to research to find out what the fuck happened probably needed better direction. In this case, you look at who the director was and realize that was the point. After putting all the amply scattered pieces together, it's actually a pretty good movie, although rarely stretching into the horror category, it's more of a dysfunctional family thing until the ax pops up. If anyone cares, since Halloween is coming up, here are my top recommendations: 5. The Exorcist You can all laugh at the ridiculous amount of profanities that apparently was scary in the 70's. It's still a good movie with a creepy theme, even if the movie itself isn't scary at all. 4. The Shining First make sure the people you're watching with are: 1. Okay with full female nudity; 2. People you're okay with watching full female nudity with. Because otherwise it'll be awkward. It's a classic and I can't see many people refusing to watch it. 3. Let Me In Going with this over the original not because it's better, but because it's much creepier and darker. The original focuses more on the romance, where this version had effects money, so bloodsucking scenes are more bloodsucky. 2. Deep Red It might be hard to get a group of friends to watch a kind of obscure movie like this, but if you're by yourself or have cool friends, check it out. It's mystery+suspense+horror. 1. The Thing (1982) It's suspenseful and has disgusting moments of weird gore. The thing that's actually scary, and the thing stupid people think are scary. Pretty much anyone can like it. |

I watched Night of the Living Dead last night because it was on TV and I don't know how one of those zombies could possibly kill anyone who didn't want to die. They don't even walk fast, and they can't even grip people through windows. How the hell do they even have the muscular strength to open their jaws? |
