People are saying that because Ridley Scott himself said that it wasn't a direct prequel, but still took place in the same universe. And he also said the next one would move even further away from Alien.

Eagle Eye- Not what I expected, but pretty good

Madagascar 3- Not as good as the first two (definitely not the first one), but it still was really good

Ghost Rider 2- Ok, I've got to admit, I actually kinda liked the first one. I don't really see the problem with it, I mean it's not great, but I don't think it was horrible. This one though? Just completely awful. I cannot explain how little I liked this movie. Easily in the top 3 spot for worst superhero movie I've seen

really? I actually heard the exact opposite from almost everyone I know that saw it. I heard the first was horrible (I saw it, it was horrible lol) and the sequel was actually a really high step up from the first.

Don't worry Cal, I liked the first one too! Of course, I also liked the Star Wars prequels, so apparently I have bad taste in movies.

The first was was so bad it was ok. It didn't take itself seriously at all. I can deal with that. Had they actually tried to make it serious, it would've been god-awful.

Anyway, I watched a movie for the first time in forever last night. Finally got around to seeing Mallrats. Wasn't too bad. Made me chuckle a few times.

Project X: Better than I expected. It gets a little over the top near the end, but a fun hour and a half. - 7/10

Welcome to the Rileys: Very good drama flick starring Kristen Stewart and James Gandolfini. - 8.5/10

The Amazing Spider-Man
Probably my favorite of the Spider-Man movies, and I'm a pretty big fan of the originals and he's my favorite superhero. Here's what I think each movie did better.

Spider-Man
Tobey was a better Spider-Man joke wise (although the amount of jokes kinda ruined that)
Characters are a bit more memorable
Aunt May was more Aunt May

The Amazing Spider-Man
Andrew is a million times better as Peter Parker
Fight Scenes were better
The Lizard was a better villian than all of the original trilogy villains despite looking cheesy (Doc Ock is a close second)
Better transformation of turning into Spider-Man in so many ways
Chemistry between Peter and Gwen is way better
I like the Indy feel to it, really sets it apart from other superhero movies

Oh, forgot to post here. I re-watched Batman Begins and The Dark Knight to prepare for The Dark Knight Rises. I like Batman Begins more. I think it was because, at least to me, it felt more personal, but it pretty much has to be because that's the only way you get to see Batman's origins. I felt like The Dark Knight was too much Batman and not enough Bruce Wayne, and when there were Bruce Wayne moments, it was pretty much, "Oh, Rachel, I love you, and I promise that I won't need Batman anymore after this". Still a pretty good movie, I just would have liked to see more personal stuff with Bruce Wayne. I assume we will in The Dark Knight Rises.

As much as I love the Dark Knight, I will be the first to say that that was more of a "holy shit look how awesome Heath Ledger is in this role" movie than a Batman-focused movie.

Just got back from "Ice Age 4: Continental Drift".
As expected it was a hilarious movie and if you enjoyed the other 3 Ice Age movies, you obviously have to watch this one too.
It was pretty much on par with #2 and #3, but not as great as the original.

Went to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel today. Pretty good. Good acting. The main characters are mainly fairly big English actors (Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, etc.) and Dev Patel. Some nice voice-over monologues by Judi Dench's character (and good writing overall). Definitely more character- than plot-centered. It was cool how different the characters were, even though they were (mostly) old white people from England. There's something else I like about it, but it would be kind of spoiler-y so I won't post it here. But yeah, good movie. The only real complaint I have about it was that it could have been condensed a little bit. A good 15-30 minutes could have been cut off. Can now cross that off my summer to-see list. Still to go: Moonrise Kingdom, Bernie, The Intouchables, Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises. And my dad really wants to go see Savages, so I'll prolly be seeing that too.

I saw The Amazing Spider-Man yesterday, and it was pretty good. Honestly better than I expected, and a solid reboot for the franchise. Keep 'em coming.
At the end, I was waiting for a Nick Fury appearance, to see if Spider-Man would be featured in Avengers 2. However he did not make an appearance in the movie, so I think it is safe to say he's not gonna be part of the Avengers in the sequel. However, I guess there's still some kind of ouside chance he could make an appearance, but I don't think so.
Prometheus - I liked it. Didn't know how gory it would be since I didn't know if it was PG-13 or R. I found out once it got to the middle. The acting was great, especially by Fassbender. I saw Damon Lindelof in the opening credits (written by), so I was interested in how similar it would be to Lost. Looks like he doesn't branch out too much, because thematically, Prometheus was quite similar. Don't know how much of a bad thing it was, since the whole faith vs. science thing can be interesting, but it leaves me wondering if the man has anything more to say. Ridley Scott did a fantastic job as director though. And those scenery shots? Beautiful. 8.5/10.

Aliens - I was a little disappointed by this. I knew it wasn't supposed to be much like Alien, but really, the only things that were the same were the main character and the villains. The atmosphere Scott did such a great job of creating was gone, as was almost all of the suspense. There wasn't much frightening about the aliens except for the number of them.
And the corporate guy turns out to be a liar and tries to kill our hero and the cute little girl she's protecting? AND he tries to sacrifice everyone else to save himself from the aliens?
In a James Cameron movie? Shocker. It wasn't all bad, and if I didn't watch it with high expectations, I probably would have enjoyed it a bit more. The action was pretty good and it did its job in disorienting me when it wanted to, but it wasn't much more than that. Pretty predictable. And the ending
was pretty much the same as that of Alien.
lrn2boriginal, James Cameron. 7/10.

Then I would like to take this opportunity to recommend Battlestar Galactica (because I can't recommend it enough). Stuff like that is a big part in... well, many parts of the show.
