The Shawshank Redemption -- Loved it. The ending, though... I don't know.

To which part are you referring, the last 45 minutes in general, or the very end in specific?

I guess the very end. It just didn't seem all that likely to me, and was kinda fast.

EDIT: Oh, and I watched Psycho. Loved it. Watching North by Northwest next. Someone else is watching Rear Window, but after this project I'll make sure to watch Rear Window and Vertigo. And whatever else. :P

Well, I finally saw The Royal Tenenbaums. It wasn't as annoyingly quirky as the reviews I read before viewing it would have had me believe, which was good. Plus, the incidental music had Elliott Smith and Nick Drake, so that was a plus.
I really disliked Margot, though at the end of the movie I kind of saw through her flaws. I mean, Ritchie was my favourite and I don't think he should have gotten with her in the end. But maybe that was just me.
I didn't expect to see Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson in it either. :O

Wes Anderson is the guy who made the Wilson brothers famous. But for Bottle Rocket. I assume they're one of those actor-director friend combos now.

I have a lot from Film History, but fuck writing all those. In Lit, we just finished watching Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet. I really really liked it. They didn't cut a single line, so it was 4 hours. Branagh played Hamlet, and I really liked his performance. Also, so many Harry Potter actors. And Kate Winslet as Ophelia (I find this ironic for some reason). Robin Williams and Billy Crystal were also in here for some reason, and really everyone was awesome. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was how much Kate Winslet over-acted. She's just WAY too screamy and dramatic.

Also, this scene.

It could quite possibly be the language, but Kenneth Branagh always seems like he's acting to me. I get that he's a classical actor, but I've seen plenty of them pull off their characters well (Liz Taylor especially in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, which I consider to be the best performance I've ever seen). He conveys what he wants to well, but it often seems unconvincing for me. But like I said, Shakespeare seems tough to play convincingly, especially nowadays.

I didn't like North by Northwest nearly as much as I liked Psycho. I think maybe I felt like there was more suspense in Psycho because it focused on the mystery of the murderer and Mrs. Bates, but North by Northwest kept adding to its mysteries and I felt like I was thinking about that too much. I guess I just always hear about Hitchcock being the "master of suspense" and I wasn't feeling as much suspense in North by Northwest. Nice cliffhanger, though.

Also, regarding the movie project, I just got this text from a friend in my group: "31 dead ppl in first 5 min of lotr, its a 3 hr movie, fuuuuuu*"

Have you seen Vertigo? It's quite good, and very suspenseful.

Also, I just finished watching all three LotR after seeing the Hobbit on Saturday. It's been a while since I had last seen them, and they were much better than I remembered. I'm going on a Tolkien binge now.

I have not seen Vertigo. It's not on the list, but I'll watch it after the project sometime for sure.

A Christmas comedy classic, national lampoons christmas vacation. I have watched this every year for the last 10 years at least once and it is still as funny to me as the first time I saw it!

Okay, I guess I didn't understand Requiem for a Dream or something. I assume some of you movie people here have seen it, so... Why is it supposedly amazing/mind-blowing?

In related news, watched The Green Mile today, and THAT WAS GREAT. It wasn't what I expected at all (didn't read much about the movie before so I had no idea about John's abilities) but I loved it. The end was so sad. :(

I haven't seen Requiem for a Dream, but I think there are two things that make it notable:

1. It's supposed to be really gritty and unrelentingly realistic.

2. The film techniques are unusual. It basically invented the hip hop montage and excessively uses SnorriCams.

Why do I know so much about a movie I haven't seen? It's what I do.
