Double post yay I just watched Deadfall. Oh my God was it horrible. I mean, I knew that coming into it, but I didn't think it would be this bad. Aside from every scene with Nic Cage in it, this movie is dreadfully dull. Oh, did I mention it has Nic Cage in it? Cause it does, in his greatest moment of overacting ever. Greater than Wicker Man. However, he dies with about 30 minutes left in the film, and those last 30 minutes are slower than the entire hour preceding it. Everyone in this movie is just so awful. Also, if the title sounds familiar, it's because Snot did a song about it, using all the great Nic Cage quotes from this movie. Yes, it's the same one that's in GHWoR. This is the movie that gives us "WELL VIVE LA FUCKIN FRANCE MAAAAN" and "HI FUCKING YA!!" I would suggest watching this movie up to when Cage dies, and then stopping. The rest is not worth it. |

OMG I FORGOT ABOUT "Lux Aeterna". Mac is right. That song is the best part of anything ever. I want to carry around a boombox with that song on it, and just play it at the most opportune times. Link, because. I'll have some reviews of current stuff soon, but it's too late. |

Saw The Other Son on Christmas Eve. It was the last day it was out at my theater. Basically, it's a switched-at-birth story where one kid is Israeli and one is Palestinian. So yeah, drama ensues. It didn't delve into the conflict as much as I'd expected (or hoped), just the characters' feelings toward the other side. But overall, pretty good. It had like four spoken languages (French primarily, then some English, Hebrew, and Arabic as well). There were a few really nice shots in it and overall the acting was pretty good, though no one stood out as OMGAWESOME. See it if you want to see a nice foreign film about the lives of a couple of families on each side of the Israel/Palestine conflict, but if not, there are plenty of other better movies to see. And can anyone tell me where I may have seen this guy before: Posted Image His name is Pascal Elbé. I was pretty certain I'd seen him before this movie, but I skimmed through his IMDb page and couldn't find anything I'd seen (or at least that I knew I'd seen). |

He almost kinda maybe a little bit looks like Eric Bana sorta? I thought I recognized him, too, but I know I haven't seen any of the movies he's in, so I'm assuming I got them mixed up or something. |

I saw Avatar for the first time yesterday. The movie never interested me before, but I was "forced" to watch it, so I watched it. I have no idea how long it was, but I'd guess around 3 hours. The first two hours were...nothing special. It didn't really take me in too much. It did get pretty exciting towards the end. I'd give it a 4/6. I don't really understand what the hype around Avatar was. |

The hype was the visuals and sound effects. Definitely the best looking and sounding movie I ever saw. The plot wasn't that great obviously, though. |

It was Pocahontas meets Crysis. This description would have saved you three hours that you could have used to fap or something. Idk. |

I watched The Dark Knight Rises (finally!) last week. Actually quite disappointed. It's a 2+ hour film and he only has his Batman costume on for a total of about 15 minutes!! I also didn't like Tom Hardy as Bane. I love him as an actor, but he's not big enough for Bane. His voice was stupid, and how the hell can you even have Bane without Venom!! Good film, but not as good as The Dark Knight and nowhere near as good as I was expecting. |

I personally loved the Dark Knight Rises. The only thing about it I didn't like was the end.
I hated how he just made Talia pop up, and reduced Bane from this amazing villain to nothing more than a hired thug. Not to mention her death was the absolute worst death EVAR. I also wish Nolan had just let Wayne die, and not cop out and be like "OH HURR HE'S ALIVE DURR" because that's something that a lesser writer would do, and Nolan is much better than that.
|

Lol, yeah pretty much. I was sleeping over at my girlfriend's old place so there wasn't anything else I could do. Can't be antisocial all the time :P @Mac yeah, I saw that coming right off the bat. Pretty cliché. |

>bat *giggle* Also, I thought The Dark Knight didn't have enough Bruce Wayne, and then The Dark Knight Rises was mostly Bruce Wayne, so eh. I think they balance each other out. @Mac:
I don't know how I felt about that. At first I was hoping/expecting him to die, but I mean, he is Batman/Bruce Wayne. It makes sense that he would think to put in the autopilot, and faking his death would allow him to live almost however he wanted to anyway, which I think he wanted, so I'm okay with him living.
|

Moonrise Kingdom-I really liked this movie, but a few things. Kara Hayward was awesome, but I don't get all the hype around Jared Gilman. Maybe it was the lisp (I couldn't tell if it was real or not), but he didn't strike me as a breakout star. Also, they were supposed to both be 12, but she looked and acted like three years older than him. The tone was absurdly quirky, which is both good and bad depending on how it's used. By far the best part of the movie is the visuals. Just everything you see is spectacularly well thought-out. I'll be mad if it doesn't get Oscar nods for cinematography and art direction. 9/10 Les Misérables-Hm. There's a lot to say on this one. Overall, I didn't love it, even if it has its moments. The main problem I had was that, keeping in mind I've never seen the musical, it threw me off that everything is sung. Like, there are seriously about three lines of spoken dialogue in two and a half hours. That doesn't matter, but what does is that it isn't written like lyrics. They'll sing totally normal sentences. Sentences have no flow or rhythm, and neither do a lot of the songs. They're equivalent to if you read this review and randomly tried to turn it into a song. The phrasing makes no sense and especially in the beginning, a lot of it was off-rhythm. That being said, there are songs that are definitely more well planned. Some of then have refrains, rhyming, and memorable sections, but honestly, I can only remember any parts at all of around three songs. And it's 150 minutes of songs. Nobody in the cast has a bad voice, but it takes Hugh Jackman a while to catch up to everyone around him. Sasha Baron Cohen isn't very notable either, but I feel like he wasn't really supposed to be. My other complaint is that as the title implies, the whole story is about miserable people. Well, okay, but suffering put against a background of more suffering doesn't carry the emotional weight it should, because there's no contrast at all. On to the good! Anne Hathaway, despite seriously only being in it for like 10 minutes, deserves some nominations because her song is easily the best part. And then it's quickly followed by the second best part, a duel/duet swordfight/song that is awesome. Also, the set is impeccable dressed, even if for some reason they occasionally decide that tilting the camera will make it look cooler. It doesn't. Oh, and the crunch. You'll know what I mean. It sounds like a karate chop. I almost laughed. It's going to get endless nominations, but it probably doesn't deserve most of them. 7/10 |

I concur with Mac's complaints about The Dark Knight Rises. I didn't love it. I liked it. It was a bit disappointing. I watched it a second time recently though and it was better when I didn't have the expectations that it would be as good as The Dark Knight. @Darkie: I think I already wrote a little something about it on this thread, but I wasn't the greatest fan of Moonrise Kingdom. It seemed really pointless to me right until the end. You're right about the cinematography and art direction (I'd add score into that as well), but it came across to me as aimless until the end of it. |
