I think I actually liked Batman Begins the most of the three.

@Asfan, I thought it had a plot. But I can see how you wouldn't see it like that, because it kind of retroactively reveals what's happening after it's already started happening, so you don't get the sense of, "This is what this movie is going to be about," like you usually do.

Am I the only one that likes Dark Knight Rises better than Dark Knight? Dark Knight imo was just a movie about The Joker, it barely had any of what made the other two so good, Bruce Wayne's struggle and pain. It did towards the end, but the whole movie was just him trying to stop the Joker, which made into a great movie, but what makes the trilogy so great imo is the hardships of Bruce Wayne. That made it so much better than any other superhero movie.

^That's actually a good point (about the ending), I never thought about it that way. Still don't like it though.

Also, lately I watched Vampire's Kiss (another Nic Cage film with even better overacting than Deadfall), Watchmen (holy shit 3 hours?) and Rain Man (out fucking standing).

Saw The Hobbit today. It was so fucking good. Don't know how they'll milk three movies out of this though, but I'm definitely anticipating the next two.

Just gonna comment on a few more movies from the project. I don't think I'll be commenting on all of them, but eh.

The Third Man -- The most exciting part of this was being able to understand most of the German. There was this old lady who talked fast though and I couldn't always get what she was saying. Anyway, that's not the point of the movie. I don't want to say I disliked it, but I wasn't thrilled with it either. Just kinda neutral.

Toy Story 3 -- Looooved it. However, when it came out, everyone said they cried and I didn't feel anywhere close to crying. I teared up during Marley & Me's ending, though. That was sad.

The Godfather: Part II -- I felt like Part I was significantly better. That's about it.

Léon: The Professional -- Very good, IMO. Except for the awkward relationship between Mathilda and Léon... I could understand if they loved each other in a father-daughter kind of way, but she called him her lover basically because she wasn't scared around him (no more "knot" in her stomach). Good ending, I think.

That movie broke me. I cried like a little bitch. I was crying.

I just watched "Unknown" with the folks. Such a good movie. It was exciting and had me at the edge of my seat going wtf is happening most of the time.
Fun loss of identity movie. I definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for a good action thriller.

The Third Man gets a mountain of acclaim, but I don't really get it. I guess it was influential and whatnot, but I only remember the Ferris Wheel scene, the tunnel chase, and the confusing rooftop scene that was too dark to see anything.

The only parts I liked where the initial, "WAIT, YOU SAID THERE WAS A THIRD MAN?!?" and when the bad guy finally shows up and is evil.

My girlfriend made me go see Jack Reached last night (I think simply so she could just perve on Tom Cruise). Wasn't too fussed about seeing it when I'd seen the trailer, but actually a really good film (and even I enjoyed a good perve on TC!).

Worth going to see in my opinion.

Watched Silver Linings Playbook today. It was really good. The last comedy I saw in theaters was Bernie. The problem I had with that one wasn't that it wasn't funny, but that when it wasn't trying to be funny, it was dull. So if it wasn't funny, then it wasn't that good. In that regard, Silver Linings Playbook had no issues. It was almost as good a drama as it was a comedy (and that's not in a bad way- it was actually a really funny movie). And this is pretty much the first time I really enjoyed Bradley Cooper's performance. Not that I think he's a bad actor or anything, I just haven't seen him do anything special in the limited roles I've seen him in. Which pretty much comes down to The Hangover and parts of Limitless (and I guess Alias a long time ago, but I can't remember how he was at all in that). I've heard people complain about the timing of actors delivering their lines before, and how it can be different for film comedy (more realistic) and stand-up comedy (less believable) and that's why stand-up comedians often seem like bad actors. I never really noticed that much, but when I think about Cooper here and then something like Roseanne, then I really can tell the difference. Cooper's deliveries were spot-on, and I think that made it more funny than it would have been if it were the "(story).... pause... (punchline)" like I now so often get that we see way too much. So props there. So yeah, y'all should see this movie. It's fun and nice. Yeah, it's a rom-com, but it's a well done rom-com. Maybe the best I've ever seen.

So you're willing to watch a rom-com (not going to say anything bad about this movie because I haven't seen it), but you still won't watch The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly??? Shame on you.

Even rom-coms are better than westerns. And in my defense, I didn't know it was a rom-com until I saw it. But it was still really good.

For anyone interested, the movie project for statistics was due today. The correlation was very low. Now I'll probably be back to watching mainly TV stuff for a while.

Saw Django Unchained on Monday. After Beasts of the Southern Wild and Silver Linings Playbook, this was my favorite movie of the year. I'm not really into tons of gratuitous blood and gore (which is funny since I like Tarantino and that's one of the biggest things he's known for) but it doesn't bug me too much, like it does other people. This movie had a lot of that (the whole dogs-tearing-that-one-guy-up-alive scene was really disturbing). This was my second time seeing Christoph Waltz, after Carnage, and he really stole the show. Leo DiCaprio was obviously good too (Jamie Foxx has always been pretty whatever to me), but man. I think he gave the best performance of the season (including DDL in Lincoln). So yeah, everyone's probably seen it already, but if you haven't, then see it. It was awesome.

Lincoln, which I saw yesterday, was all right. I feel like if it was some no-name director with some no-name actors, it wouldn't have gotten nearly as much acclaim. It had some really good moments (that one scene where Tommy Lee Jones took the floor of the House and the one after were awesome), but it just seemed too slow. I guess if you're making a movie about getting votes for the passage of the 13th Amendment, then there won't be much to speed it up unless you want to do it in 15 minutes, but it feels like they just stretched the movie out. It certainly got better after the slow start and I enjoyed it for the most part because it did have its good qualities (DDL is pretty much a lock for his Oscar and Sally Fields and Tommy Lee Jones also did great work, the cinematography was fantastic, etc.) but it seemed like a bit of a letdown after everyone was building it up to be so great.

Two down, two to go (The Impossible and either The Hobbit or Zero Dark Thirty, depending on whether or not I can get into the latter for free tomorrow).

Also, Oscar nominations are out. I know a lot of you brush them off as nothing, but I think they're fun. So some of my thoughts:

- Beasts of the Southern Wild wasn't a sure thing, so I'm happy that picked up a nomination for Best Picture. I was surprised that it got that and not Cinematography, but you look at that field and it's not so surprising. That could be the strongest field this year.
- Quvenzhané Wallis is now the youngest person ever to be nominated for Best Actress. Emmanuelle Riva is the oldest person ever to be nominated for Best Actress. Awesome.
- Ben Affleck did a fantastic job with Argo (directing). Too bad he didn't pick up any nomination.
- Sort of surprised that Wed Anderson didn't get a Directing nomination for Moonrise Kingdom. I wasn't big on the story itself, but the directing was outstanding.
- I just realized I didn't see any animated movies.
- The rule is still in effect: do a good period piece, get a costume design nomination.
- Ted got a nomination. Interesting.
- Nothing for The Dark Knight Rises is a bit surprising too. I'm not sure what it could have gotten (Hathaway for Supporting Actress? Sound Editing?), but you'd think it'd get something for being the last of the Dark Knight series.
