Volt, I think you're the first person who actually made me want to see Frozen at all. I'm sure I'd enjoy it and all, I just don't feel any need to go see it. Doesn't help that I'm not usually too big on musicals and the music is all everyone says about it.

THE THREE FLAVOURS CORNETTO

Or: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End.

I got the trilogy after Christmas but for one reason or another I've only just managed to watch all of them. I absolutely loved them. Even though Shaun is the most beloved of the three, I actually liked it the least. It was an incredible movie, but for me I just didn't find it as funny as the rest. Hot Fuzz was absolutely brilliant, and the World's End nearly had me on the floor (plus that end scene with the Network? fuckin a). So yeah, as a whole I give the trilogy a 9/10, each movie individually would be 8, 9, and 9, respectively.

Hot Fuzz imo is the the "worst" in my opinion too. It's hilarious, but the plot isn't as complex as the other two, it's just a simple gather everyone up and get to the pub. There's obviously more to it then that, but the other two, especially Hot Fuzz had me at the edge of my seat wanting to find out what's going to happen next.

Those movies, plus Scott Pilgrim, make me very excited for the upcoming Ant-Man movie. Wright is great at mixing action scenes with comedy, something the MCU is built around, but also can add a lot of complexity to his movies as well and create an interesting plot. Not the mention World's End had THE best fight scenes of 2013 imo.

*adds those to Netflix queue*

Citizen Kane -- I thought it was gonna be one of those things where everyone says it's really good but I wouldn't get why. It was quite good, though. I wouldn't pick it as my best movie ever, but it's definitely a good one. I just think if I picked a "perfect movie" it would need more emotions/feels and this didn't really have much of that. Most things I've seen from that time don't, though.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me -- Immediately after watching, I did not like it. I don't think it added anything to the show and I kept waiting for something interesting to happen. By itself, sure, it's interesting. But as a prequel, well, we already know that all this stuff happened. I read a review because surely I misunderstood it, but the review mostly agreed with what I thought. It added that victims of rape/incest connected to the movie and got more out of it, though. If that's the point of the movie, cool, but it didn't need to be part of Twin Peaks. I might try to find something later from someone who thinks it's the best thing ever or something just for another opinion.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951, of course) -- Pretty good. Awesome music, in the cheesy "oh noooo there are aliens and they have a UFO in the 50s" kind of way. Anyway, I've seen the "advanced alien race finds humans to be primitive and violent" type of thing in plenty of Star Trek and Stargate episodes, but I'm guessing/assuming this is one of the first movies to do it, so that was cool to see. I might read the story it's based on, but idk yet.

I just saw "Cloud Atlas". I honestly don't know what to say. It was definitively an interesting movie, however I felt it was incredibly confusing and I didn't see the supposed connection across all the ages. Well I saw them but they weren't really that obvious, nor do I feel like they made about of sense (except perhaps the two in the future). I feel like the connections were little more than coincidences that had little real value.
It was also a long movie, so I don't know. It was worth the watch however I not going to see if again, although I assume the book is better. I wouldn't really recommend this one.

Can confirm that American Hustle is super overrated. It drags for a while and doesn't really cohere at parts. It's not bad overall, but without all the awards and buzz, I wouldn't have guessed it was pegged 'omg great'. Most of its awards are for acting anyway, which is mostly justified.

I was kind of disappointed that Jennifer Lawrence's character has a lesser role than I thought she would, and it takes her a long time to really become important to the story.

You thought the acting awards were justified? Christian Bale was the only one I really felt should have gotten the nomination, and I still think he's the weakest of his group. Amy Adams was better in Her (would have been supporting actress, but still) and Bradley Cooper wasn't anything special and was better in The Place Beyond the Pines. Jennifer Lawrence was good, and I do think you could justify her nomination, but overall I just don't get the hype around her other than she seems like she's a cool person. She'll probably end up winning because she's Jennifer Lawrence, but she didn't have anything on Lupita Nyong'o's performance.

American Hustle was really just a hype train with a lot of famous/good actors in it. It was still good, but fairly disappointing for something that was supposed to maybe be the best movie of the year. The Academy bought into the hype, I guess. Maybe it was the content, but even the performances didn't seem as good to me as they were held up to be.

Vampire Academy

Ok, so being engaged, means sometimes I go see movies, that I'm not entirely interested in. I mean, there's never been anything I just didn't want to see, but normally there's stuff I'm meh to. I've seen stuff like Mortal Instruments and Beautiful Creatures, which I wouldn't have seen if I was single. I don't think those movies were that bad, they weren't great and they didn't leave much of an impression, but it wasn't like it was torture.

This movie on the other hand, I'd have to admit, was actually pretty good. Like, it's not good in a Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings way, but it's not meant to be like those type of movies. It's more light-hearted and comedic. Basically it's a Supernatural Mean Girls. I've seen a lot of reviews comparing it to Twilight, but honestly aside from the vampires and the Twilight jokes, there's not much in common, ex. plot isn't revolved around a love story, no unhealthy obsessing, useless main character. It's definitely good for a good popcorn flick, and if a sequel is made it seems like it would be promising

A friend made me watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower last night cause it's her favorite movie or something.

It was the most pretentious thing I've ever seen. The characterization just basically felt like "hey we're DIFFERENT and better." They were hipsters from the 90s. It was completely filled with shitty quotes that have been spread across all of Tumblr because "they're so totally deep." The acting was good, though, and the story was pretty interesting at least. It would have been much better if they had actually focused more on what caused these kids to end up like they did. Like, before the story, the main character's best friend killed himself, and it's given like, one line of attention.

Overall this movie was just bluh.

DAT STORY TIEM

I watched Frozen and Captain Phillips in the last few days which are both utterly phenomenal. Phillips does kinda drag for a while at some points, though. Scenery shots aren't required like an hour and a half into a film which is all water. I basically agree with everything Volt said about Frozen; it's just a very nice film start to finish.

Watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The movie left out a lot of big things from the book, but the stuff it did have was good. I know it's hard to do a first-person point of view in a movie, but I felt like that added a lot to the book. But the movie made that first-person narrator a pretty minor character and it kinda makes sense one way but it just takes a lot away from it IMO. Anyway I'm being summoned for Dota 2 now bye.

Double-post because Mulholland Drive. This is probably the most satisfying movie I've seen because of the feeling I got from reading about why everything makes sense. Please don't read anything about it before you watch it, if you want to watch it, reader who has not seen it yet. I do want to watch Eraserhead and I guess eventually I should watch Inland Empire, but the next two movies on my Netflix queue are The Amazing Spider-Man and Die Hard, so... Pretty light on the whole "thinking" thing.
