I sort of hated Eraserhead btw. Don't expect it to be MD/BV/EM. |

Eraserhead is 10x weirder than any movie you've ever seen. Inland Empire is about twice as weird as that and a billion times tougher to follow. |

The Amazing Spider-Man -- It was pretty much just what I expected. Nothing really fancy, but I heard the reboot didn't suck, so I wanted to watch it before TASM2 comes out. Andrew Garfield seemed EXTREEEEEEEMELY fidgety/agitated throughout almost the whole movie, but I was never sure if he was doing that to be a socially awkward nerd or if he was doing that because he has all this power and it's making him restless. I thought he was usually pretty funny when he was wearing the costume though and I hear that's accurate to the comic book character, so that's cool. Die Hard -- HEY I UNDERSTOOD MOST OF THE GERMAN TERRORISTS' DIALOGUE. But a lot of times, they started talking and then it faded out and got quiet while Bruce Willis stealthily walked around so I couldn't always hear it. THEY GOT SOME GRAMMAR WRONG THOUGH. Using the dative case instead of accusative when shooting the glass. smh. Anyway, it was very fun to watch and it seems like something I'd love to rewatch a lot, so I'll probably do that sometime. L.A. Confidential -- I liked it. All of the lead actors were good (which makes sense 'cause they're all rather famous now), mystery was mysterious, characters were good. I didn't really expect much from the characters, thinking they'd just be a bunch of cops who disagree with each other a lot, but they were interesting and developed. Yay. |

Bump to say that I thought Mud was really overrated other than a few good scenes, but The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a beautiful work of art. Also, Blue is the Warmest Color didn't quite live up to the hype. The characters somehow didn't seem fully flushed out, despite having three hours to do so. Also kind of nihilistic, which I guess is realistic, but makes it not very fun to watch. |

Metropolis - Ah, here it is. The first scifi movie in all its silent glory. Well, I mean, it had a soundtrack, but still. I thought this was a pretty awesome movie. Cool story, and the music was fantastic, and the sets and effects were actually really good. Even though it came out in the 20s it still had better effects than some scifi stuff from the 70s and 80s *coughdoctorwhocough*. Can't really comment on the acting since there were no words, and silence + 20s acting = overdramatic expressions. But yeah, its long as shit, but still very engaging. |

Thought I'd comment on Cap 2 now that the follow-up episode of Agents of SHIELD has aired. I really liked it. I saw it with three friends, and I couldn't really tell what one guy thought of it, but the other two really seem to have problems with not-gritty superhero movies. I am going to rant briefly now, and there will be spoilers. I loved Nolan's Batman movies. I have not read very many superhero comics, but I do know that Batman is a dark character. From what I know about Captain America, he's not really dark. HE WEARS AN AMERICAN FLAG. In his spare time, he punches Hitler's face in the name of freedom. Yeah, he was later frozen for a long time. Most people he knew are now dead, dying, or (probably) attempting to redeem themselves so they can form an uneasy alliance with Cap in an upcoming sequel to take down the people who brainwashed him. I'm sure that devastated him, but other than that, I haven't read about any particularly dark moments in Cap's history. So why are people upset that his movies aren't dark? Someone probably could have made a decent, darker Cap movie, but they went with a tone/style that's more accurate to the original character and I'm really tired of people using that to criticize every superhero movie that's not Nolan Batman or Man of Steel. But anyway, I thought the combination of the movie and the SHIELD lead-in and follow-up made a nice set of MCU goodness. There were some scenes that had moments I had problems with, but overall, I thought it was great. Action was fun to watch, Black Widow was just as important as Cap, Falcon was cool, conspiracies were fun. My biggest problem with the movie is that I feel like the show didn't want to do anything interesting until the movie because they knew what was coming. The ep before the movie was pretty good, IMO, but the ep that followed the movie is easily the best so far. I just hope the show finds a way to be good without depending on huge events from the movies. Also, I know I talked about the show a lot, but I didn't want to post twice about everything. |

So I haven't seen SHIELD really at all this year, so I can't comment on that, but I CAN comment on Cap 2. Fuck yes. It was awesome. Snow hit most of the points, but it was easily better than Cap 1 (just like Thor: the Dark World was much better than Thor). And if this doesn't convince the world that Black Widow deserves her own movie, nothing will. |

I absolutely love the new captain America. I've seen it twice so fat. I think what was so great about it was that it could have dark moments to it and have a complex story yet not be dark and gritty like the Nolan movies. It worked for those movies because they were suppose to be realistic, marvel movies play up the spectacle. I think the movie did a great job blending all together. As for shield, I don't think it's they need to rely on the movies for good moments, just that what they wanted to do with the show they had to wait until captain America came out because of whatall down. The rest of the season and next should be great |

My university had a free early screening of Neighbors, that Seth Rogen and Zac Efron comedy, and honestly, it was really dang funny. I was pretty excited for this from the trailers and I wasn't let down. |

All I've done for my past three film classes is watch movies: Bonnie and Clyde: Good. The Godfather: Much better than I remember, and I still liked it the first time. Fantastic movie. The Untouchables: Don't remember how I felt about it the first time, but I liked it this time. This is what my final paper is over. Tomorrow we're watching Goodfellas, which is one of my three favorite movies. So that'll be cool. Other than those, I haven't seen any movies since Her. Thank you for taking the time to read my in-depth reviews. |

Shaun of the Dead -- I didn't like it all that much. I laughed a little bit, but not often enough for me to really like it. Kill Bill -- Netflix added both halves of this to Instant recently, so some friends came over and we watched the whole four-hour thing last night. One friend had seen it many times before, but it was new to me and the two others who came over. I loved it. The action in the first half was probably the best action I've seen in any movie, but I don't really know what makes action good, I just know it was very smooth and fun to watch. Both halves were very enjoyable. |

Singin' in the Rain -- I enjoyed this. Songs were catchy, plot/characters were good. It was better than I expected. Godzilla -- I'd only seen one Godzilla movie before this (Godzilla vs. Mothra), but other than that, I'm not sure I'd seen any other big monster/kaiju movies. After seeing this Godzilla, I don't think I want to see any others. I've heard a bunch of people say this one was really good, but I don't know what was good about it. I really didn't like the characters (only two, Ford and his father, showed more than one or two emotions), not much happened with the Godzilla part of the plot, and the fighting was over pretty quickly. If these are signs of a good Godzilla movie, I think I'll pass on the rest. I know it's a giant monster movie that isn't supposed to have a great plot, but I just didn't think the action was that entertaining either. Raiders of the Lost Ark -- I'm one of those guys who hadn't seen it yet. As a reminder, I first saw Star Wars during my freshman year of high school. Anyway, I thought this was really good. I'll watch 2 and 3 sometime, but not yet. My Netflix DVD queue has other priorities right now. X-Men: Days of Future Past -- I thought this was very good. The future scenes all looked very nice, Quicksilver wasn't annoying like I thought he'd be, action scenes were good, acting was good. And of course, retcon. I only had two, non-spoilery problems with the movie, assuming you know what the movie is about. First, they didn't explain how future Xavier was alive. I read that the X3 after-credits scene suggested Xavier's mind/energy/something took over the body of his identical twin brother who was born without a consciousness, and then decided to keep using a chair because he's lazy. Whatever happened, I would've liked if they acknowledged it. Also, they never explained how Kitty got her new time-travelling consciousness power, unless the audience was being disruptive and I just missed that. I told myself she could phase people through space so she can phase them through time now, but I would've liked if she said that. Other than that, it's pretty good. |

Just got back from seeing this and it was pretty awesome. Yeah I don't think either of your problems are really addressed in the movie. I think they just decided "fuck this" and decided to just completely undo some of the things that happened in The Last Stand even before the retcon happened. Can't say I blame them. Anyway while I enjoyed the movie a lot, I have to say that I don't find Mystique very interesting or entertaining to watch. I felt like I was pretty much just putting up with her (large) role in the story to get to everything else. Her espionage scenes and the scenes where they're trying to track her down are some of the worst scenes in the movie. I think the younger Xavier/Magneto (McAvoy and Fassbender) were the best part of the movie. Again. Wolverine's also a fun time, but he didn't really seem to do much after the whole time travel part (which I guess was kinda big). kinda a spoiler i guess Also the Apocalypse movie gon be awesome. And since I saw a trailer for it at the X-Men movie, so is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Edited by LightningBolt, May 25 2014, 05:58 PM.

X-Men: Days of Future Past spoilers I don't know anything about Apocalypse, but yeah, looks cool. At my after-prom, there was this magician/comedian named Rick Smith, Jr., and he says he'll be playing Gambit on a show called "Stan Lee's Superhumans", a show about people who can do cool things that make them similar to superheroes, or something. Smith is supposed to be a "real-life Gambit" on this show. This guy is in the Guinness Book of World Records for throwing a playing card over 72 yards at 92 miles per hour. He threw a playing card at a cucumber and sliced it in half last night. It was awesome. So he definitely sounds like a "real-life Gambit". Dawn of the Planet of the Apes seems cool too.
