If you have a theater near you that shows current foreign cinema, Joon-ho Bong's new film Snowpiercer is fantastic. It's a great action movie that just intensifies as it goes on. For more of this Korean director's great work, one of his other films, The host, is on Netflix.

I was about to post the same thing. A small local theater was showing it and it is absolutely fantastic. It is easily my top film for the year so far.

I've sorta noticed there always seems to be one awesome non-superhero/sequel sci-fi movie per year. Like Pacific Rim last year and Looper the year before. And I'm okay with this.

There's a theater in Cleveland that's playing Snowpiercer. Not quite local (~45 min away), but I'll see if I can find other people who want to go. I got people to see Much Ado About Nothing at that theater with me, so I think I can find people for Snowpiercer.

I'm ok with it to. Sci-fi movies canebe expensive, so one a year isn't that bad.

Also if anyone didn't have snowpiercer nearby, apparently it ill be available online Friday. I'm not sure if it's too own or just rent though. I want to see it in theater, but the closest theater is a bit away plus I have my fiancée's kids over so don't think I can afford all of us

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes -- Pretty good. Most of the important actors were really good (especially Andy Serkis), but a lot of the unimportant characters were pretty bleh. The plot was about what I expected... Humans and apes try to work together, but a small group of each of them ruins everything for both humans and apes. I'm not sure where the reboot series should go from here. This movie gave me the impression that there are very few organized groups of human survivors left, except for what remains of the military. Obviously, the military won't stop the apes, so I hope they don't make any kind of human vs ape action movie. I would be okay with a movie about an elite group of stealthy apes that use their secret agent skills to cripple the remnants of the government or something, but I don't think that movie will exist. Also, the title is misleading: Neither Dawn nor Dawn made appearances in this film.

Hitchcock -- Didn't really follow the book, but that's fine. The book doesn't really scream "THIS WOULD MAKE A GOOD MOVIE", so I'm glad the movie made significant changes. Rather than just detailing the production of Psycho, the movie showed a lot of Hitchcock's personal life. The movie was actually pretty comedic, too. The book mentioned that Hitchcock liked to play pranks on his cast/crew a lot, and that happens once in the movie, but he and Alma were funny throughout the movie. The acting was great -- Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren felt like the couple I read about in the book, and Scarlett Johansson and James D'Arcy felt like the perfect people to cast as Marion Crane and Norman Bates if Psycho were made in this decade. That said, I didn't think the "plot" was very strong -- at the beginning, it looks like Hitchcock will have problems with funding the movie, releasing the movie, advertising the movie... but everything just turns out okay. I wouldn't want the movie to dwell on those problems too much, but I think they could have addressed those things instead of giving Hitchcock hallucinations of Ed Gein. Overall, I enjoyed the movie a lot. Hitchcock's personality in the movie is just so fun to watch that I thought it made up for any other "problems" the movie had -- it's called Hitchcock, and it gives the viewer Hitchcock (and his wife!). Would recommend if you like anything related to Alfred Hitchcock.

When I saw the trailer at the movies I couldn't help but laugh. The movies look really cheesy, however I think I'd enjoy it, well enough. But I wouldn't pay for it.

I went and saw Boyhood today. It's a really tough movie to evaluate, mainly because of how long it is and the semi-disjointed feel you get from the time jumps. I do think it may have been built up a bit too much, but it still was a really good movie. Being practically the same age as Ellar Coltrane, I actually was given a great perspective on the movie that a lot of the audience didn't (there were actually times later on in the movie where he looked way older than he actually was, including the ending, but amazingly he isn't even 20 yet). The character he played was very relatable, and I swear, his sister in the movie did and said the exact same things that mine did and said to/about me. But anyway, I think that will also apply to most of you as well since most of us are around the same age. Some of the scenes were a little unrealistic, especially the ones with the "bullies"/"bad influences," but overall I felt that this movie seemed more real than just about any other. There were so many situations and emotions there that just about everybody probably remembers, or is still going through, even if you weren't growing up in the late '90s/early '00s. This write-up is probably way more disjointed than the film itself, but you should watch it, guys. It's really long but it's also really good.

Also I'd recommend, personally, not watching the trailer if you haven't seen it already. It seemed tonally different from most of the movie, really up until the last quarter or so of it. I also think it gives you too good of an idea of where the movie goes in certain acts. But it's probably not too big of a deal anyway.

The Room -- YOU'RE TEARING ME APART!

Gravity -- Loved it. Visuals were amazing, the music terrified me, and I liked the rebirth symbolism. I hate that people feel a need to criticize every little scientific inaccuracy, though. It's FICTION. I'd rather have them use fake science to make a better movie instead of using real science to make an awful one. Wutevz.
