Apparently this is old, but what the fuck, internet?

Choice is *good*. I could post examples all day long, but the ability to choose what products I wish to purchase and how I choose to experience those products is as integral to me as the quality of the product itself. I would never purchase a CD I cannot rip or a movie I cannot watch on any device that plays that kind of disc. I want the freedom to put that CD on my laptop and to watch a movie at a friend's house. It's much the same reason I abhor purchasing games with online passes.

If someone wants to experience their game in a matter more akin to how they would experience a movie... I say let them. They paid $60 for the fucking product. The industry thinks otherwise with their "you're buying a license" shit, but I believe that once money exchanges hands, you own any product and are free to do with it whatever you wish, insofar as it's legal.

I wonder how this would be implemented. No way would I ever pay $60 for something I wish to experience as a movie. $20? Definitely, that's about the going price for a new movie. $30? That's pushing it, but if it's really that good, I would consider it. I think the best way to do this would be to make one version that's the full game and another that's just the cutscenes or whatever, and price them appropriately.

Of course, the industry is too myopic for this. If they ever did anything, they'd put an option on-disc and still charge $60.

I suspect that is why Mass Effect 3 will be given 3 options on how to play, Action, RPG, and Story. While I fully understand where she is coming from, the way she handled some of the responses was only fanning the flames of hatred for her. But that still does not completely justify the fans completely laying all of their hate on her! She is a woman whom is allowed her opinion just like everyone else!

I completely agree with both of you. Choice is good. And I don't see how it's cancer, when you have the OPTION to play the game in either action mode, rpg mode and story mode. As she said, people who might not have time to put 100 hours into a game, might want to cut out some of the parts that they don't enjoy.
I know lots of guys who just franticly skip cutscenes (well they used to when they were younger).
Bashing on her is just dumb, but eh, that's the internet.

Wait...wut's this about ME3 having different game modes?
"Wiki"

Mass Effect 3 will have three pre-set campaign modes: Action Mode, Story Mode, and RPG Mode. In Action Mode, conversations will have automatic replies and a normal combat difficulty. In Story Mode, conversations will have manual replies and a minimal combat difficulty. In RPG Mode, conversations will have manual replies and a normal combat difficulty.

Oh, I see.

Anyways, I got a note in SwapNote on the 3DS from Reggie Fils-Aime (as I assume everyone with SwapNote did). It said he's going to "share some news" tomorrow at 9AM EST at http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo_direct.

Reggie Fils-Aime just confirmed The Last Story is coming to America sometime this year. He says it around 10:13.

EDIT: It's not an "it"; it's a them. They're releasing TWO add-ons to fifth gen. These better have more to them than usual because this is a horrific cash-in otherwise. ...Still gonna buy one.

So...apparently there's a rumor that Xenoblade Chronicles will only be available as a pre-order (in America). Which basically means if you don't pre-order it from either the Nintendo Store or GameStop before it releases in April, then you're shit outta luck (unless you get lucky and find a cheap secondhand copy).

Assuming this is true, is Nintendo of America seriously convinced that this game will not sell? Especially after all the amazing reviews? Seriously, I've heard nothing bad about this game. NOTHING! I've only seen it praised as an evolution of the JRPG genre. That's bullshit if we are only gonna get a handful of copies through pre-orders.

http://kotaku.com/5888595/ten-ways-to-make...no-one-ever-was

I agree with two or three of these and disagree with most of the rest.

Taking out the EV/IV system ruins competitive Pokemon. I'm not exactly huge on competitive Pokemon, but that community is thriving, and eliminating that system would in essence make each and every Pokemon the same. It's the stat spreads that allow for many different sets to exist.

Taking out breeding would eliminate a relatively efficient way for those players without access to other players to obtain more Pokemon. Yes, I REALLY want to run around in the grass and hope to find another Pokemon so I can trade or breed or whatever. :/

Removing the story is just flat-out retarded. Black and White didn't have super great stories, but they were easily the best in any Pokemon game. In other games, they always felt secondary and tacked on. In Black and White, they were as important as the adventure itself, which I personally enjoyed.

Using a single, custom Pokemon sounds stupid when the premise of Pokemon is catching them all/making a team to counter various threats. Plus, roflstomping the game with one Pokemon is just dull.

Really the only idea that hits on anything I'd like to see done is the one about custom Gyms. While I'm not a fan of that idea unless you can share them/have in-game NPCs challenge them and eventually reach you, the thing I want to see most in a new Pokemon title is more good post-game content. I don't find cheating towers or stupid contests all that fun, but I play more for the adventure than the competition/RPG aspects. So yeah, more post-game quests, locales, things like that, would make me a happy camper.

A few of my 100% not-shitty ideas:

1) Make grinding painless. Using some bullshit device with arbitrary limitations just to get rematches and/or limiting fights against certain trainers to once a day strikes me as very stupid. If I want a rematch, I should be able to talk to a Trainer and get it.

If they aren't going to do this, there need to be more areas with stronger Pokemon in the post-game. It's kind of hard to raise truly strong Pokemon when the strongest ones you can grind on are in the 60-65 range.

2) More post-game content that focuses on adventure, as I already said. Much of the post-game content focuses on aspects of Pokemon that I'm not a huge fan of. Black and White had new areas; the issue was that there really wasn't a whole lot to do in them, especially once you had caught the legendaries or whatever.

No, I'm not saying "eliminate the Battle Tower and contests", or anything like that. Those have their place, too. (Perhaps if the tower were FAIR, I'd go there)

3) Make the EV/IV system accessible to the player, and make every Pokemon give you points that you can use as you wish. The current system is stupid and a pain in the ass. Have an "auto-level" function for the little kids or those who just don't care, but the hardcore player should be able to distribute the points as he or she wishes.

4) Difficulty levels. We see a lot of teams using the same Pokemon with the same moves over and over again, and it gets tiring. I suspect a large part of this is keeping the game easy for the kiddies, but for those of us who are a bit older and smarter, it gets dull to fight the same battle ad nauseam.

Easy: Trainers with simple teams, simple movesets, and an AI that isn't too intelligent. Gym leaders and plot-important characters would have decent, though not great, Pokes, moves, and AI. I'd say it would basically be equivalent to what we currently have in Pokemon, with perhaps a trainer like Ghetsis tuned down because he genuinely *would* be hard (if only due to Hydreigon, but we all know that he cheated) on such a difficulty.

Normal: Varied teams and movesets, and a reasonable AI. Pokemon would actually evolve when it's appropriate for them to evolve. Gym leaders and other important characters would more closely resemble actual boss battles in other series.

Hard: Competitive-level (and legal!) teams, movesets, and AI for most everyone. I want it to be difficult, and that can be done without the developers blatantly cheating. Why? There are such things as good movesets and AI. (This would be a good reason to make EV/IVs accessible)

5) How about some option that removes the things that dumb the game down for the kiddies - not being able to overwrite HMs, not being able to access EVs/IVs, etcetera. The older player is not going to overwrite a move like Surf (if only because it's the most legit Water move), release their Water type, and then be dumb enough not to have a Rod or something. Basically, keep the function of an HM, but allow the older player to remove the bullshit.

Or kill HMs altogether, which would be ideal, but lol at that. While it is silly that one move lets you do certain things, it's more about keeping the game simple for kids than anything.

6) I'd like to see Gyms/Elite Fours that don't use typing as the sole criterion that determines what gets used. It's way too easy to roflstomp any type of Gym with one or two Pokes. A themed gym of some sort (a Gym using Pokemon that are caught in that area, for one example) would ensure that you need a decent team for every point in the game.

The only real drawback I could see is that you would likely start taking on Gyms later on in the game - You won't have a good team for such Gyms too early. Of course, making more species of Pokemon available from the get-go would help.

7) Multiple saves. Even a second save file would be like paradise to me. I know this likely won't happen because money, but there's a difference between trying to make money and putting bullshit limitations into the game to ensure players get another copy if they want one file for collecting and one file to play through again and again.

8) Most people want no more Pokemon. I want more, but I also want them to be unique. Do we *really* need another Pidgey clone? No? What I mean by "unique" is typings that we haven't seen, Pokemon based on animals we haven't seen in the series yet, that kind of thing.

My opinion on what they could do:
What Kotaku said:
1. Yes, this should've been done by now
2. EV makes sense, but IV is just horrible, especially when dealing with Legendary and starter Pokemon. Stick with just EV.
3. Yes and no. No they should not stop adding Pokemon, but it pissed me off in Black and White when all the Pokemon were new. There should be older Pokemon in the new games from the git go. I like having some familiar Pokemon on my team, and that ruined my experience with White.
4. This is just stupid as hell
5. Yes
6. Yes and no. Keep the story of the Pokemon to a minimum, but the opposing enemy team should have a good story without needing Legendary as a crutch. The first two generations didn't do that, and thier Legendaries were the best. Crystal was the only good story about a Legendary. Not to mention they've completely contradicted theirself since I don't see how Mew can be the first Pokemon, if other Pokemon made the universe.
7. Confused on this
8. Wouldn't hurt
9. Yes, yes, yes. Events as the only way to catch Pokemon is the retarded thing ever. It was cool with Mew in the original games because he wasn't suppose to be in it, but after that it was just stupid.
10. Yea, although I haven't really seen where they've done this really

Ro's Ideas:
1. Agree
2. Agree
3. Eh, I think it would take away too much from the formula
4. Agree
5. I somewhat agree with being able to get rid of HMs, more so than not
6. Yes, which could fit in with my idea.
7. Most definitely yes. At the very least they could make it where only one save file you can trade with
8. Agree

My own ideas:
1. Anniversary edition sounds good. My idea for the first 3DS Pokemon game? Do the first two gen and base it on the anime. One game, not two. You can get all the starters. Include the Orange Islands. Have more than 8 gyms per region. Include some of the cool areas from the anime, such as the amateur gym. Brock and Misty could follow along if they could make it work, but I doubt they could.

Ok, that's actually the only idea I can think of at the moment. Had more, but my brain went dead

That article was retarded. IVs and EVs should stay. Otherwise we'll all have clones of stuff. What they should do is tell you what your IVs and EVs are.

The "Make your own gym" thing I came up with a while ago and it would be a pretty cool addition =D

Ro's ideas were great. I mean all of them, so not gonna comment on them. I'll put forward a few of my own ideas:

1. "ALL DA REGIONS IN ONE GAEM" is stupid. You'd be finishing at Level 90 and it would suck and take forever.

2. A more believable overworld would be cool. Black and White had a desert within milimetres of a city, and a forest in the other end.

3. An online chat service would be cool; like a built in Skype. Then an area where you can connect to a server and talk to people in said server, and build private servers. You can also start battles and trades in here. Kinda like the Union Room but actually good.

4. A harder game. Or even the ability to start a harder game after beating the game. I'm not saying just higher levels, either, I'm saying harder teams.

5. Being able to walk around with your Pokemon, but also to have people comment on the one you have. Unlike HG/SS where you can walk around with Lugia and have people ignore it.

6. NO MORE EVENT POKEMON. They're ridiculously annoying. They should be Pokemon you can normally get in new and interesting forms (abilities) with unique moves or something. Give the original event legendaries ridiculously hard requirements, such as getting all the stars on the Trainer Card, defeating the hardest dungeon and so on and so forth.

I'm honestly at a loss atm, strangely, when I usually have loads more ideas. xP

7. Rather than any Pokémon being trapped in the pokeball you threw at it (which I'll admit, does make sense), why not also give us the option to use a single, custom Pokémon? Give us a variety of stickers and such to customize it, or even just use the appearance of those ones we really like (such as the surprisingly-memorable Master Ball).

I think he meant to say "single, custom Pokéball", not "Pokémon". If not, why would you put stickers on a Pokémon or make it look like a Master Ball?
