...Wow. Apparently they think "not reporting" is the same as "exploiting a bug". Yeah, no.

Treating your customers like shit is not the way to get my $80 plus whatever you ask for DLC, EA.

Nobody cares about the gamer's consumer rights. I suppose part of it is, "if you have $60 to spend on a game, your consumer rights aren't as important as those of the poor". It's true that the concerns of the poor are more pressing, but I'm hard-pressed to think of many sectors of commerce in which customers are being bled so badly (cell phones are one of the few that come to mind). Another part would be perception of games. They're seen as children's playthings on the best of days, and responsible for school shootings on the worst of days. Is it any wonder nobody wants to step up to the plate for our consumer rights?

And of course, it's America and people still keep buying the games. A lot of gamers themselves seem not to care about their own rights in the marketplace.

As far as piracy goes, I suspect that's a major reason they're hyping up this Diablo 3/MMO-esque cloud shit. If a lot of the processing work is being done on the server side of things, that makes the game far harder to pirate. I mean, SURE, maybe someone will release a crack someday, but if all this stuff is true, there's no way in hell it'll be as good as the real thing.

I wanted this game and would have dropped $80 on day one if I were being treated fairly. But since that's not happening, oh well, that's $80 I have for other things. *shrugs*

Welp, I'm going to need a Wii U at some point. I always knew that Nintendo would announce *something* that made the console a "must-have" for me, but I didn't think it would be so soon.

SMT x FE, whatever this successor to Xenoblade is, *and* Yarn Yoshi? Goddamn I didn't think these announcements would be so fap-worthy.

A new SSB is always cool too, and I hope to hell the new Mario Kart doesn't have such broken ass items (or if it does, it needs a way to disable the worst offenders). A Zelda is as obvious as it gets, but always welcome.

This might be a stupid question, but why is it 'yarn'? Is it actually pertinent to the storyline or is it just their schtick for the graphics?

Think it's more so the latter. The first Yoshi-centric game (Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island) had a crayon-drawn aesthetic. The second one (Yoshi's Story) had a scrapbook aesthetic. Yarn is only fitting, really, given how previous Yoshi games have looked.

It's possible it could factor into the story/gameplay, but I have no idea at the moment.

Well, the yarn aesthetics were explained in the storyline for Kirby's Epic Yarn, so they might do the same for Yarn Yoshi.

I was planning on getting a WiiU in the fall, but this definitely cements that. I'm contemplating on if I should get it earlier if I have the money, but right now there's only one game I'm interested in and that's NSMB, but it's a lot easier to buy a system now and get the games when they come out instead of trying to catch up on the games I've missed.

@ Nintendo Direct, I'm psyched for almost everything there, except probably Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem game. That's only because I've never played a Persona game or a Fire Emblem game. My opinion may change once I do.

@ THQ, I'm not broken up by it. I never liked anything made by THQ anyways, so it won't affect me much.

Related to what I was saying earlier before the Wii U news (which was awesome), so posting it.

When your nation's most well-known consumer rights advocate is making outlandish statements like this, it becomes a lot easier to see why publishers feel they can run roughshod all over their customers. There's nobody of any political significance watching the publishers to ensure that they treat their consumers fairly. The gaming media serves a purpose, but it's likely not going to affect the kind of change needed to ensure that gamers have all the same rights other consumers do because it has few to no connections in politics.

In the meantime, the only ones who can look out for gamers are gamers. We're dropping the ball here by buying games with draconian DRM and all that bad stuff.
