Sexual Orientation: Not Picky

Supposed screenshots of the next Xbox's development kit have leaked. One of them confirms that it will require all games to be installed to the hard drive, and that there will be some sort of "always-online" connectivity, though it seems to be for installing updates when the console isn't in use rather than DRM bullshit. According to IGN, the screenshots are accurate.

SPOILERS YOU FUCK

because i can

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/susanw...-her-brothers-w

I like the idea and $10 for a game isn't a hell of a lot. I don't expect the most epic RPG ever or anything, but it'll be interesting to see what a nine year old goes for as opposed to an AAA developer.

I don't understand the cynicism surrounding this and many Kickstarters in general. Is it possibly a scam? Yes, but I could argue a couple recent AAA releases (you know the ones) were essentially scams. I'm probably *less* scared about this than I am about certain AAA releases.

Might this girl not "need" the money in the strictest sense? Yes, but I find it infinitely more admirable that she's raising the money herself instead of asking mommy and daddy for a handout. Plus, I don't have any delusion that crowdsourcing should be available only to the "starving artist" or whatever; it should be available to anyone with an idea and the desire to crowdsource. It puts the control in *our* hands and not some suit's hands.

That's cool, go women in tech and stuff, but I'm not sure I would want my 9-year-old daughter being under the pressure of having to deliver at least a ten-dollar-quality game to like 20,000 people.

Like I've said before, I don't really expect much of a ten dollar game. If I finish it once and got some enjoyment out of it, that's cool. While many of my best purchases have been under $10, that's more so because the game in question was old, on sale, and oftentimes both.

But yeah, I kind of wonder who gave a nine year old girl the idea to start a Kickstarter. It's more of a curiosity than anything though, since as long as she's doing this willingly, I'm cool with it.

Anyway, I really come here to drop this off.

As the URL implies, the Humble Bundle has now gone to weekly sales. Last week was Bastion, which was cool and all, but I already had it. The two Darksiders games and a couple Red Faction games for under $10? I can dig it.

The Battlefield guys are having an epic time over in San Francisco at the moment, and we got some cool shit revealed so far.

Here's a 17 minutes of ingame action from the single-player. It actually looks very cool. It looks like the engine is in fact a more refined version of Frostbite 2, which is great, and it also looks like I'll be able to run it on my computer, which is also fantastic news for me and anyone else with low-medium end machines.
The blue tint that was in Battlefield 3 seems to have been removed, and it gives the game a much more natural and pretty look.
The gameplay seems to be very similar, however I didn't see any suppression from the gameplay, which is a little odd. I liked the feature, but not having it isn't the worst ever, and it will surely mean that the competitive scene will appreciate it.
And it also looks like there will be women in this game, which is cool!
Maybe you'll be able to customise your character a little bit as well, getting to choose between black or white (for the Americans any way) and male or female.

Here's the 17 minute gamplay

Here's LevelCap and rivaLxfactor talking about the gameplay.

I am very, very, very, very psyched about this game, and I'll definitely throw money at DICE...and also loleascum, which sucks, but eh. I want this game. :P

That game does look very pretty and very next-gen. I always liked the looks of Battlefield more than CoD, mainly because they don't have that stupid gritty filter over everything. Gameplay-wise, it doesn't look any different. BF3 made a lot of improvements from BF2, but BF4 doesn't seem to have done much (aside from a really intense single player, which is good). To be fair, I can't really think of anything they could add at this point. BF4 is necessary because of the whole next-gen thing, but after this I do hope they quit it with the new titles for a few years. Otherwise they risk becoming just another CoD.

BF3 was really more of a huge beta for BF4 than anything else. It had a fair number of bugs, large variety of DLC (from super close quarters to the biggest map in Battlefield history). The two DLCs that went to "extremes" did the worst, so I think we'll be seeing less of that weird stuff and more of what they do best, which is a nice mix of vehicles and infantry combat.
It was an experimental game in some aspects. BF4 will likely be a more refined and focused approach then BF3. BF3 only used like 20-30% of the engine's power, so I think we'll see some cool stuff. They're also adding a third faction, which is China. It'll probably be like previous games were it's all map specific. I don't really see them doing a three-way thing.
And now with the Medal of Honor franchise being closed down, I think they'll start releasing BFBC3/2143 in the future. Hopefully not yearly like CoD, though.

More leaked info about the new Xbox?

Well, if any of that's true I guess Microsoft suck even more than I thought.
However, if that always online deal is only for the $300 subscription model version I guess that makes sense. And I'd image the $300 version would work as a pay off model until you've paid for the full $500 in total as some dude in speculated in the comments.

Thurrott also shared information about the Xbox 720's reported always-online requirement. He said this a confirmed feature for the platform, claiming the system's notes specifically state that the Xbox 720 "must be Internet-connected to use."

The Xbox 720 reportedly stops functioning if an Internet connection drops for three minutes.

Welp, I guess Sony has a new customer.

Yup, it's this final match again.

Is anyone really surprised that EA is beating everyone down? I almost wonder if they'll ban EA from these contests - Not much of a contest when you're consistently getting 80%+ of the vote.

Also, related.

Yeah, it could never be that your business practices are downright unethical or anything like that. It must be the homophobes and whiny Madden fans!

Well, if any of that's true I guess Microsoft suck even more than I thought.

What I'm assuming is the original source made it seem like "always-on" meant just that; the console will always be connected to the internet, even when "off." I'll still buy it if that happens, but I'm not so sure if this version of the rumor is true. I like Microsoft, but not enough to blindly buy a product that is designed to disadvantage me in such a way.

This better be true over the other "always-on."

If this is what the "alwayson" rumours have been about, it's a good one. It's a smart move by MS, because having their main next gen console be always connected would alienate a large part of their audience.
