That is some god damn bullshit. Well, I'm just glad I'll never have a surveillance box in my house. Fuck that shit. Microsoft can go suck Ziltoid's fetid pendulous balls for all I care. At least the Kinect isn't mandatory for the console to work, which is nice, but then again I don't really get why they aren't selling consoles without a kinect device, but hey. MONEYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. |

Not surprised at all. Data mining is big business. Consoles (not made by Nintendo) are not profitable very early. The gaming market has been fragmenting since mobile and Facebook games became huge. The Japanese market seems disinterested in consoles these days, and that's a pretty huge market as far as gaming goes. I think this console gen will sell less than the previous one, though you won't hear any suit at Ninty, Microsoft, or Sony admit this possibility. Connect the dots and it makes perfect sense. As usual, gaming companies are not looking to create new customers; they're looking for ways to squeeze every cent out of their current ones. It's hard to avoid data mining unless you're a total Luddite - still pay exclusively in cash/check, don't shop online, etc. We're gamers, so it goes without saying that we're interested in tech to *some* extent. Sure, it sucks that the One is doing these things, but the real issue is that people don't seem to be able to muster up much care for the 4th Amendment/privacy concerns. Hey, guess what, GTA V is coming to PC! It's not like any one thought it wouldn't, I'm just glad to see a release date for it. I'm not sure if I'll pick it up at release, I'll probably wait for the steam summer sale to give us a 25-50% off deal or something like that. |

Bravely Default (the updated For the Sequel version that the US and EU are also getting) is now going to have microtransactions. The game will include a special attack that stops time, allowing you to attack enemies without them attacking back. It uses SP that normally recharges when the 3DS is in sleep mode, or you can just buy the SP in the eShop. Woohoo. Also,

Wouldn't it be better to just not have it in the game/make it hard to get them with in game currency/achievements? Oh, wait, money. |

It's more likely an alternate skin for the Wii Fit Trainer. There was no grand new character announcement today. Also, Wii Fit Trainer looks amazing, everyone just hatin'. Posted Image |

Nintendo just shut down online support for SwapNote, one of the apps you can get from SpotPass. The reasoning is that people were actively abusing it to send offensive material to users, including minors. The only way they could stop it was to shut it down. Seems to be a bit of an overreaction, but that seems to be Nintendo's thing. |
