Sucks about SwapNote, but I never really used it.

The second link, on the other hand is something that I already knew and had celebrated. Subspace Emissary sucked, imo.

While I agree about SSE, the reasoning why they got rid of the story mode is why I linked it.

Seems a bit silly to me that they took out an entire feature just because people uploaded videos of it.

And yes, I'm quite aware that it's old news.

Hopefully, they'll replace Swapnote with a messaging system among your friends that can be used even while playing a game or whatever.

Or y'know...they could hurry up with that Miiverse/Nintendo Network update.

Also, I do not understand the hate for Subspace Emissary. Like, at all.

Subspace Emissary was meh. It got old after a while. The only exciting parts were getting new characters and boss fights.

Subspace story was good, levels were just a bit grindy but fun with a friend. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good.

Nintendo have said that they're not adding many characters this time around. If they're not adding characters or Subspace, what are they doing? I assume improving online and stages but still...

Not gaming news, but in relation to all the gaming news about the next-gen systems, I seriously could give a crap about them at this point. I'm not posting what I'm referring to because a) I don't know if what has been posted, and B) there's too many links to post. It's just that these new systems seem to have way too many restrictions. The hard drives are too small for the size of the games. And probably worst of all, they're taking features out of them that the older systems had. PS4 can't play CDs or MP3s, it can't be used as a media server. Literally the only reason I'll probably get a PS4 is because of a new game by Naughty Dog, new LBP, and whatever new games Bethesda come out with.

I bought a WiiU a month ago and I'm more than pleased with letting that be my Next-gen console so long as it has good games for it. I'm just afraid that I'm going to miss out on a lot of good games because of it.

Yeah, you've hit on most of the reasons I don't care about next gen. A couple other thoughts...

Launch lineups are underwhelming most of the time. Is there a system with a launch lineup that looks amazing in retrospect? Nintendo systems were generally good about launching with one amazing title, even if it was first party: Super Mario World, Mario 64, Sunshine, Twilight Princess. You can even include Wii Sports and I won't object, mostly because it was a paradigm shift. But as far as I know, that launch title was the best game for quite a while on those systems.

I'd rather wait for 2-3 years and see what happens with these systems. Only now is the Wii U picking up steam, mostly because it finally is getting the titles Nintendo fans want: a new Mario, Mario Kart, etc. These titles don't excite me as much as they would have last gen, but even I'm looking forward to games like X, SMT x FE, and Yarn Yoshi.

I also have a gaming rig. Nearly all of the major AAA releases will also get a PC release, and with the new consoles having x86 architecture (PC architecture), ports should be better in theory. Why should I buy another box that will get many of the same games the box I'm typing on will get? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense until I can pick one up for under $200, and even then it's not a great proposition for me. I'll miss out on some good exclusives, I'm sure, but there is no single game worth buying any console for.

I think I'll be content with a PC, 3DS, and Wii U for this gen.

Nintendo just shut down online support for SwapNote, one of the apps you can get from SpotPass.

The reasoning is that people were actively abusing it to send offensive material to users, including minors.  The only way they could stop it was to shut it down.

Seems to be a bit of an overreaction, but that seems to be Nintendo's thing.

Adding on to this: child predators were abusing SwapNote. One man confessed to using Swapnote to coerce minors into sending him nude pics. Considering the original article Volt posted said Nintendo "specifically calls out the app's support for the sharing of photos", this crime is likely involved with its shutdown.

Also, another two men were arrested for performing "improper acts" with a minor, who met them through a dating site accessed on her 3DS (though one report mentions SwapNote).

I think we can see that. This has actually been a decent year for EA (well, since the last WCIA tourney), so I can't see them winning for the third time in a row.

That's a pretty cool move by Microsoft, but it's probably no more than some PR shit, trying to gain face.

Speaking of Xbox One, it seems Target has already shipped their pre-orders, so people have been getting it early. One person, Moonlight Swami, started posting details online, including an unboxing video on Youtube. Microsoft, instead of going after Target, decided to take down his video due to copyright claims and then ban his Xbone. Their reason being... Iunno, I guess they don't want anyone to know what it looks like before they buy it?

So good job, Microsoft, good effort.

That's really stupid. He got his early, of course he's going to be excited. There was no written "rule" against uploading videos of it, was there?

Major Nelson has stated that the guy's console is not perma-banned, and in fact implied that it will only be banned until the official launch. Which makes perfect sense.

He stated that the UI is still not finalized and they're putting finishing touches on it, and that their servers aren't ready for use just yet.

Really, this issue isn't that big of a deal. Seems perfectly reasonable. BUZZWORDS, though.
