The Steam Machine looks fucking awesome, and the specs seem to be pretty sweet as well. It comes with a AMD R270, which is slower than a 9750, but faster than a 7870, so it's a pretty sweet card.

It also comes with a 500 gb HDD. The price is the same as the Xbox One, but way more powerful. Seems like a great purchase for those who enjoy the comfort of consoles. The Steam controller also looks really cool.

http://kotaku.com/sega-promises-not-to-screw-up-atlus-1473097672

Sega says that they're gonna leave Atlus to do their thing, but will give them access to Sega's resources if needed.

There was also a mention of a potential revival of some older Sega IPs should Atlus want to undertake it. Phantasy Star 5 would be lovely.

It's been too long since a "proper" Phantasy Star has been made. I get that the online series is probably far more profitable than the original series ever was, but throw us a bone goddamnit.

A remake of 3 would also be appreciated. That game was *at least* ten years ahead of its time. Branching routes weren't really something you could do all that well on the Genesis. The only real changes are some of the names and the ending you get.

A straight remake of 2 would troll everyone ever. Some of those dungeons are just batshit insane. But yeah, the first and second games are ridiculously old, play like they're ridiculously old, and could probably stand to be remade for a modern audience.

Welcome to Persona News: The Thread.

Okay, I won't post *every* little bit of Persona infos, tempting as it is, but this is the first actual information on Persona 4: Dancing All Night, so...

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/12/02/persona-4-dancing-night-begins-rise-starts-working-idol/

I wonder if any of the new characters introduced in these spin-offs will have a role in Persona 5. I doubt it, even if odds are that both Sho and this Kanamin girl have a Persona, but you never know.

EDIT: More Persona Q stuffs.

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/12/03/persona-3-4-characters-meet-persona-q-shadow-labyrinth/

I like the dual protagonist option, assuming both stories are good/different. If it's just a way to have the same damn events but from a different character's viewpoint, it's a bullshit way of increasing the game's length. I'll play it at least twice *anyway*, but still.

Drakengard 3 is being localised.

I don't know anything about it but it looks pretty, at least.

And now we wait a year for the localization.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/if-spike-doesn-t-care-about-its-awards-show-why-should-we/1100-6416621/

Pretty much this. Hell, the URL alone would suffice.

I agree that streaming is a great idea, in theory. It should allow you to make a show by gamers for gamers without the bullshit meddlesome network executives would want to shoehorn in so they can appeal to the mainstream/their perception of gamers. It should also be cheaper to produce, the downside there being you probably can't make as much off advertising. In practice? It's basically admitting "our ratings fucking sucked". It seems desperate. Part of me also wondered (jokingly) if it was kept off the air because they knew it wasn't/wouldn't be appropriate for television. Sad to say, that's no longer a joke query.

You need to find a host who gives a damn and whose name has cachet with gamers. Joel McHale? Not that I'd have known who he is in any case (apparently from Community, which would explain that), but until this I had never heard his name in any video game-related context. After this, I don't want to hear it in any video game context ever again, and that's after watching only the cringe clip that's making the rounds.

I honestly don't know of many people who'd make a great host, but it shouldn't be hard to find someone familiar with video games (beyond Call of Duty, Angry Birds, etc) and someone who is genuinely funny/charismatic. Personally I'd submit Chris Kluwe. He's extremely intelligent, funny, and knows his shit about the vidya.

As far as the content goes, well, that needs a massive improvement. Everything about these shows should be offensive to gamers. We're constantly treated as stereotypes. Nothing I've seen or heard about on these shows indicates that Spike/the hosts have any respect for gamers. The jokes are worse than Tosh and Mencia plying their trade. Also, the *actual* offensive content needs to go. No self-respecting awards show would have ever allowed a trans joke to go un-apologized for, as it seems Spike has. Why watch a show that has no respect for gamers, let alone marginalized groups?

Awards are subjective; we're all going to disagree on what games should win what awards until the end of time. But even there, it's pretty obvious that the awards are given out in such a way so that everyone gets their bit of exposure. This is bullshit. It creates the appearance that your show is a vehicle for advertising the games you picked to win and nothing more. I'd rather see one game win many awards because the voters think it's a great game than see every game given an award so everyone can boast about winning some award.

But all this is assuming anyone *wants* an awards show. Publishers/developers do not care. I'd have to assume they know the ratings are too low to justify big reveals and that their target audience does not care about or respect this show. They have to know E3/their own events are where it's at. The gaming media cares more about the reveals than the winners, which I guess makes sense because the former is actually news. Most major sites also do their own awards, though without such fanfare. Gamers don't respect the VGAs/VGX/whatever Spike is calling it this year. So, what niche is a video games award show filling?

The main reason this is very frustrating is that, well, the world doesn't take gaming seriously. We're full of stereotypes and when we finally get a massive audience to showcase how serious and passionate we are about games, we get diaper jokes within the first minute.

@Calv

Boogie made a good video regarding this, and I really hope they listen to him. If they really go through with some of the stuff they're talking about...that wouldn't be good for anyone. Games like Minecraft and Amnesia became really big through youtubers like SeaNanners and Pewdiepie. Youtube is free advertisement, and as Boogie says in his video, after watching people play the games he has then gone out and bought them.

Here's the video

One of the points that really needs to be addressed is that the new system completely ignores fair use. Any video that has the slightest hint of copyrighted material will now get auto-flagged. Once that happens, all money being made from that video stops going to the content creator and instead goes to the copyright holder.

Sure, you could make the argument that gameplay videos violate copyright, but reviews? Parodies? These things are also falling victim of the new system, things that are entirely legal under law. Even still, most big content creators and Let's Players go out of their way to get permission from the publisher if they can release the video. They make sure that the content of their videos won't get caught up in copyright laws. People who have gotten explicit permission from copyright holders to use trailer footage, music, etc, some even paying the money to license have gotten hit with the new system. Ubisoft, Square Enix, Capcom, and Deep Silver have all come out and said that they do not care at all about gameplay videos on YouTube, and are actively against this new system. Hell, the system is even affecting copyright holders themselves, because the YouTube copyright claim system is still broken and easily abused.

I think Angry Joe said it best. The guy is pissed, because he makes a living off of making reviews, interviews, the like, on YouTube. Everything he's done has been 100% legal, and now YouTube is stealing his profits.

I understand that YouTube and Google need to protect copyright holders, but this is not the way to do it. The system is clearly broken. They need to find some other way of doing it, because the current system is destroying a good thing.

What is going on with YouTube and Google lately.

Tales of Zestiria announced for the Playstation 3 earlier today. It's also already been confirmed for North American and European localizations.

I feel like it's possible that we see Final Fantasy XV, Persona 5, and Tales of Zestiria all get released early 2015 in North America. Gonna be a hell of a time for RPG fans.

The three original Fallout games are free on gog.com until the 14th! I highly recommend that you give them a go, it's actually a lot of fun!

http://www.gog.com/news/free_games_fallout_fallout_2_and_fallout_tactics

I also really recommend that you take a look at Fallout wikia's character creation guide, a lot of the skills and perks are absolutely pointless and like 90% should be avoided like the plague.

The problem isn't necessarily just that the YouTube system is broken (which it obviously is), it's also that copyright law is broken. Or as Jim Sterling said in his emergency Jimquisition, "copyright has always been fucking bullshit".

It's important to recognize this is a multi-pronged effort. Between bullshit like this and the SOPA/PIPA-esque laws that seem to be proposed like clockwork, people who are scared that the internet age has taken control out of their hands are launching a war to regain control. To what end? If they want less information out there, I'd assume they want us to buy shitty products before we know we're buying shitty products. While they might think this will result in more money, what it'll really result in is people buying "safe" IPs because they don't have enough information about lesser-known games. I suppose you could extend this logic to other products, too.

Also woo a new Tales on PS3. I expected it to be on console because this is a celebration of a big milestone in the franchise. PS3 seemed the most likely. Lol @ the 360 audience for JRPGs (it exists, it's just too small to cater to), and Wii U has no install base. PS4/One might get a Tales game later in the gen.
