"Comment on IGNorant's article"

Really if you have THAT many people bitching about the game you have clearly done something wrong. No, a 0 out of 10 isn't a fair score for any game that isn't a complete bug ridden unplayable mess. But IGN predictably misses the point here, that these are NOT critic scores, these are people making a point.

And it's a point well made, zeroes speak far louder than mere 6's or 7's, and that is what the user score is all about. The system of 0 for bad 10 for good is not, I repeat NOT a bad system for user scores; Can you honestly expect people to carefully and rationally take both the pros and cons of the game into account and devise a perfect numerical representation for its perceived "value", for them personally? No, of course you can't. But you can have a system where people say "Nope, I didn't like it. Zero." or "Yes, I loved it, 10".

Far better read than the article itself.

That just further emphasises the point RO made about not trusting user scores when evaluating a game. People are way too emotional when voting on anything (especially in politics). I have alot of games, and have enjoyed many and hated some too. But that does not mean I always give a 10 for the good, and a 0 for the bad.

We shouldn't trust numbers anyways, but the reviews themselves.

I can think of one game that is worth a 0 out of 10.

I find it hilarious that that game is also published by Activision.

Big Rigs is amazingly crafted and horribly underrated.

The Spike tv video game awards will be on Dec 10th, 2011, and here is the list of categories and nominees!

What do you think of it? Predictions?

Surprised Catherine didn't get a music nomination. Chopin's "Revolutionary Etude" works extremely well for that game's final boss theme, and it's not like the game was unknown, either.

As it is, I'm probably voting for The National song in that category. The Florence + the Machine song is off the old and admittedly inferior album, so no.

Two female candidates for one game is kind of bullshit, no matter how good they might be. You can't tell me there isn't a fourth game with a worthy female voice actor. You just can't.

Madden not even getting a nomination in the team sports category is a huge surprise. I don't particularly have anything against it not getting one (the defense's AI was set way too high if you ask me), but it's a surprise nonetheless.

Other than those small gripes, the categories I care about are actually filled with legitimate candidates. Kind of surprised since Spike aims most of its programming at what we would call the "bro gamer", and I thought they would tailor their nominations to their audience. Good to see it didn't happen.

Surprised by some of the nominees. I think one of the games I was definitely going to pick for one of the categories wasn't even there (I believe it was Pogeymanz on handheld). Still, will be interesting to see results.

The VGAs can blow me. Best Studio is pointless (people just vote for the studio that made the best game, not the one that continues to support the game after release), the best console games categories should be exclusives only (the PS3 and Wii cat. are, why not 360?), and there should definitely be 5 nominees for each category, not 3 or 4.

Some games don't particularly *need* support after release.

Not that JRPGs ever win these awards, but they come to mind as a genre that in general needs little to no post-release support. You're not getting much, if any, DLC with them, they generally don't need patches, and there are usually no servers to maintain.

I'd be more inclined to vote for a studio that makes products so good it doesn't need to support them post-release. The argument can be made that DLC and patches imply the game as it shipped was not a good enough product.

Just a thought, but would anyone here like it if we did a "Game of the year deathmatch" tournament? I was thinking 8-12 entries covering all platforms and most generes. Your thoughts!?

Xenoblade coming to the U.S. via Gamestop Exclusive

So...people are reporting that Xenoblade Chronicles is being listed under future Wii releases as a "GS Exclusive" in GameStop's system with a release date of April 3, 2012. It's just a rumor, but I really, really, REALLY hope this ends up being true.

EDIT: Xenoblade Chronicles is now listed on Nintendo's US site with an ESRB T rating and an April 2012 release date! GG, Operation Rainfall!

EDIT 2: Official Press Release from Nintendo. And yes, it can only be purchased at Gamestop. Sorry, Gamestop-haters.

I don't really like exclusivity deals, if only for the simple reason that I'd have to spend money somewhere I normally wouldn't. (read: not at Amazon)

I suppose it's better than not getting the game at all. *shrug*
