Keep Moving Forward

Nintendo is bringing DS games to the Wii U virtual console.

This is not my 3DS TV, Nintendo. Try again.

But really, though, this is a really cool development. Interested to see just what comes of it.

DOUBLE POST

Nintendo will be making stuff for smart phones.

Really seems like a logical move, but it's weird seeing this happen when they've been so against it in the past. I'm also interested in seeing how this will develop.

Wow. I didn't actually expect them to do that. Definitely interesting to see what they are planning to bring to the smart phone market...

I suppose I get why you'd bring DS games to Wii U. While it might not be smart to take away a draw of the 3DS, it's a far more successful system at this point than the Wii U is. I suppose there are also Wii U owners who neither have nor want a 3DS.

This will be more interesting if Nintendo announces they'll later be selling DS games on the 3DS's eShop. I'd have to hope that the Nintendo Network ID system allows for you to buy a game on one system and be able to play it on either the 3DS or Wii U. Buying a game twice to have it on both systems would be a colossal failure. (Not sure I see Nintendo doing this anytime soon, so this is a hypothetical scenario.)

It does seem there are some improvements in the PS4/One versions, but on the whole they're nothing I'd recommend shelling out $60 for, unless you don't already have the game and/or a PC that can run the original version.

On the whole, both seem like pretty good looking versions of the game, though the problem for some might be the One's occasional dips below 30 FPS.

I didn't really care for any of this but a smooth 60fps is really nice to play. I was blown away by just how smooth everything in ALBW felt because it had 60fps even in 3D which is insane. A lot of my games on Wii U, PS3 and 360 will come to a shuddering halt when something exploded. I could accept if it was something like Resistance that came out on PS3 release, but it's pretty weird when stuff like The Last of Us just goes drops the FPS like a truck.

High FPS makes a game feel good but FPS drops completely break immersion. When I play games, I want to forget I'm holding a controller after half an hour or so. I recognise that sounds cheesy as all hell, but you can very easily be immersed in unrealistic games - it's just a different way.

Not really sure why I wrote this but oh well. I guess I'm trying to say that stable FPS is the way to go and I feel that stable 60FPS should be every game's priority.

Yeah, man, 110%. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. 10/10 times 60+ fps >>> insane graphics.

I'd rather have a game that backs a little down in the graphics department, you don't need 1080p and that insane hair effect in TR, especially not if it makes your game run like poop.

My rig laughs at TressFX. That said, I'd like to see the new, improved version of it come to the PC version, but I get the feeling that wouldn't be as easy as a simple update. Idk.

But yeah, I'd rather play a game at 60 FPS in 720p than a game at 30 FPS in 1080p any day of the week. Smoothness is way more important than ZOMG TEH GRAFIX!!1 If I'm able to play above 30 FPS, it's a smoother experience and it gives me room for modding, which are both far more important aspects of any game, at least to me.

And yup, Mario Kart 8 not coming out until May is a reason I'm waiting until about July for the Wii U. As it is, the system has like no new games that I'd want. DKC, Mario Kart, and perhaps another game or two (Wind Waker?) should tide me over until X, SMT x FE, and Yarn Yoshi come out.

I saw that on Twitter earlier today. I have/had that game for the GameCube, and it was pretty cool, not the best ever, but still a good time if you don't have anything else to play.

I think it's different from Four Swords Adventures. Everyone controls an individual Link - this is the Four Swords that you could play using A Link To The Past on the GBA.

Superb game. My brother and I played the shit out of this when we were younger and I've got friends with 3DSes here who I'm sure I could convince to play. This game is remarkable, so glad it's free.

Four Swords Adventures (the one for GCN) is the sequel to Four Swords. They're not the same game.

Anyways, fair warning, Four Swords is easily one of the worst Zeldas. It's a rupee-farming game that gets old real quick. I supposed it'd be fun in multiplayer, but y'know, local only and I don't have friends with 3DSs. Iunno if this version offers anything different from the DSi version though. As far as I can tell, it's the same.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-01-29-league-of-legends-why-riot-should-be-catering-to-noobs

I'll most likely always think toxicity is LoL's (and online gaming's) biggest problem. It's THE reason I don't play online, as I've probably said before. Well, that and I tend to prefer single player experiences anyway.

But yeah, I have to agree with this article. It shouldn't require tens of hours to BEGIN to learn a game. Like the author, I have a pretty big backlog, so if I'm not hooked in the first hour or so of gameplay, I'm going to find another game. After the first couple hours, I expect to start learning the game, and if I don't feel I have some kind of grasp of how to play after 5-10 hours, well, your game's not doing a good job of teaching. I don't expect to have everything mastered, but I expect to have some level of proficiency with what's been introduced to me.

I'd have to assume Riot knows this is an issue and is trying to do something about it. Me, I'd hope there's a glossary or some shit for common terms, a program that allows newcomers to learn from veterans, and perhaps other things I haven't thought of. Idk. *shrug*

I agree. It's dumb to have such an epic learning curve. I want to feel good at what I'm doing it at least feel like I'm making progress.
