Harmonix's new F2P FPS, Chroma

This seems cool. I'll definitely want to try it, but I feel like it might get stale if there aren't a lot of songs/maps. Very interesting, though.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-to-fix-final-fantasy/1100-6417822/

I thought about picking this one apart, but it's hard to pick apart something that says nothing in a couple thousand words.

The problem with Final Fantasy is the fanbase. They yearn for a return to what they see as "the golden era", that being the games from 6/7-9. You can throw 10 in there because it's generally loved, but it's a wee bit different. However, every Final Fantasy outside of 6/7-10 is radically different from these games, and even radically different from other games in the series. Wanting a series that is predicated on change to return to some mystical "golden era" is silly.

I guess my reply would essentially boil down to "it's not Final Fantasy, it's you." I don't know about most gamers, but I like that the series changes shit up every time. I don't want to buy the same game over and over again; it just isn't fun. I want developers to try new things because trying something new is the only way anything ever moves forward. If you want the old games so bad, PLAY THE FUCKING OLD GAMES! (or buy Bravely Default and shut the fuck up)

Also, everyone pinning their hopes on XV to be the greatest, most epic game ever will be sorely disappointed. Nothing in reality can live up to the fantasies in fans' heads, even if it's a great game.

This is actually a REALLY good idea. I wouldn't expect HD remakes of newer titles or whatever, but putting some stuff on Steam could be a good move. Steam does not compete with Nintendo and their philosophies seem similar enough.

The only real flaw I can see is that this kind of move might signify the end of Nintendo (home) consoles. This might not be the worst thing in the world if it means Nintendo can focus their talent on developing games instead of trying to support floundering hardware.

The way Nintendo stands today, it would almost be for the best if they stopped making home consoles, and only focused on being a software developer, and a handheld developer. This is a future I'd be quite happy with.

Also, I want dat Metroid Prime HD remake on PC. :p

Keep Moving Forward

Two big news-y things today.

One, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is getting a price cut. Before it was being sold at $39.99 retail and $29.99 digitally, now it's at $29.99 retail and $19.99 digitally. It seems the backlash against the game's length finally won over.

Second, four Persona games announced to be coming to the US! All the Persona you can handle!

If you don't already have a 2/3/XL DS, then you might want to pick one up in March.

This is a pretty sick offer. Super Mario 3D Land, Yoshi's New Island, and Mario Kart 7 are all games you'd probably want to get any way, and to get Pokemon X/Y on top of that for free is pretty much as legit as it gets.

About the dates I expected. Well, except for P4A2 being a fall game and Dancing All Night being a 2015 game. Persona 5 is obviously going to be the last release, so with two 2015 releases I'm expecting about March-June now. I was hoping for winter 2015, but I doubt Atlus would want P5 to overshadow Dancing All Night.

Whatever, take all the time you need.

Titanfall is a 21 gb download and a whopping 48 gigs when installed!

Holy fucking shit Batman! To give you some perspective of how insanely much this is, Battlefield 4 with all the patches so far, and two expansion packs is only 35 gb. BF4s maps are bigger and the graphics are greater. How do they even manage to make Titanfall that big?

More comparison: The Skyrim GOTY with plenty of mods is only 12 gigs. Sure the game is a bit over two years old, but god damn.

Yeah, this came up in chat last night.

I like how this is a 48 gig install yet still can run on the lowest end of gaming parts out there. I mean, if you're running a Core 2 Duo and a <5000 AMD card, LOL your experience isn't going to be that great. You might as well go console or invest money in upgrading your shit. Accessibility/flexibility are great things about PC gaming, but even Xbone is better than those parts.

Even if you're running a rig that can get the most out of this game, it's still ridiculously huge. What the fuck is this shit? Insanely detailed textures? Lossless sound files? Tons of voice acting? Useless files to inconvenience pirates?

But this isn't really my issue with the game. It's that it's a fucking 21 gig download. I suppose this is going to be par for the course for AAA games this gen, but the games are evolving faster than the infrastructure. Of course, it's easier to evolve faster than "not at all", but still. Another gen of bloat and they might have to bring discs back for PC, this time with a Steam requirement. I'd accept this, anything beats leaving my computer on for 20+ fucking hours just to download a goddamn game.

If you're outside of a city that's lucky enough to have good internet, you're fucked for no reason other than where you live. Given that the PC marketplace is predicated on downloads, generally from Steam, it's not good business to make your downloads take fucking forever. The only reason I put up with it is because the price isn't matched by disc-based games.

The download size is why I'm iffy on getting a gaming computer, my internet is SLOW. So I'm not sure if when I decide to get something new if I should go with a good computer or a PlayStation 4. The Pc would cost more, but I'd save in game prices due to stream sales, BUT I'd lose out on the new uncharted and little big planet. Hard decisions

Oh, and there's the fact of alack of a split screen on pc, which sucks cause I game a lot with my fiance

Yeah, I've got no idea why the game is that fucking huge. I can't imagine what makes the game that big, I hope Respawn tells us why it's so freaking huge, and they better have a good reason. I actually read somewhere (might have been in the comment section of that article) that CoD: Ghosts took a whopping 50 gigs, which is simply retarded. It's a good thing HDDs are relatively cheap, however that doesn't help me since I have a laptop (lol I am a loser, I know).

And it's a real shame most of America has shitty internet, and even worse: download limits, 48 gigs will likely be a large portion of people's download limit for the month (what even is the point of this?).

The point is to keep their outdated infrastucture from being overloaded. The companies are too cheap to upgrade cables, so they have to cap internet usage and speeds.

In all honesty though, maybe it's because I've owned a PlayStation so long, but fifty gigs isn't unbelievable, although I do find it a little ridiculous since the game is online only, but uncharted 3 took up almost fifty, and that was last gen. The pc version of titanfall is going to be the next gen version, so I can understand that it would be considerably large, however, this means to me either, a) next gen gaming will be very limited if they're already hitting the fifty gig limit pod bluray discs on consoles, or b) they did a terrible compression job. If that's the case people need to learn a thing or two from Nintendo, while I know their games are less space taking, super Mario 3d world and windd walker hd only take up two gigs each, which totally shocked me considering re revelations is a ds port and is twelve gigs

Respawn HAVE to have done an absolutely shit job at compressing, like Ro said, maybe FLAC audio or some shit? But 50 gigs for a game without even a single player campaign...that's just nuts.

And man, it's a shame that internet connection is kind of the deciding factor on whether or not you want to get a PC. =/
