Yeah, I read that too. I don't think I'm fully against that kinda stuff being sold, but I feel like there should be a warning about it not being complete or something. But I dunno, I guess that's what reviews are for too. |

Semantics. If the game obviously isn't complete, it shouldn't be sold. This is pretty obviously an incomplete game that should be pulled and Steam should offer refunds to the people who bought it. Early Access, Greenlight, whatever, this is a pretty simple sentiment to get behind. There's a reason the Nintendo Seal of Quality used to mean something. If a lesser-known game gets released through Steam these days, what the fuck *does* it mean? I probably have no track record with the developer/publisher, and Steam's standards seem lacking. I don't have any idea if I'll be buying a quality product. (Of course, I should read the reviews in this case, but that implies somebody paid money and may not have had anything to go off themselves.) |

Yesterday's Jimquisition just went IN on that game/developer. 'Twas a good time. In other news: Sony flash sale. https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/flash-sale/cid=STORE-MSF77008-9_FLASHSALE2014 What do we have this time? $5 for Ni no Kuni is worth it, in spite of my many gripes with the AI. $17.49 for Tales of Graces f ensures I'll be picking it up. I'd pick it up RIGHT NOW but I can't download until ~9:30 or so anyway and lol @ pausing a download on PS3. $15 for the Mass Effect trilogy is a great price. Each game is easily worth the $5. As for the DLC, I'd probably ignore it at these prices. Well, you might consider From Ashes. Even though the mission is short, you do get a new character out of the deal who's good to use and adds a bit to the story. If you're into the Atelier series, $25 for the latest entry isn't *bad* but I find the series would be a lot better if everything weren't on a fucking timer. I'd consider this if I didn't want other things instead. (MK8/Wii U, mostly) EDIT: X/X-2 is $30 on both PS3 and Vita. Not a *bad* price, but again, I'm pretty tempted to wait until it hits $20 somewhere. Edited by Romanticide, Jun 4 2014, 12:36 AM.

Tales of Xillia is easily worth the $20, idk why I didn't note that yesterday. Ah well. Also not sure if Kingdoms of Amalur is worth the money, though if it is I'd get it on Origin while it's still $6 there. http://rpgamer.com/news/Q2-2014/060414c.html In more important news, Digital Devil Saga 2 is coming out on PSN next week. As usual for a PS2 Atlus release, it'll be $10. Probably worth it; I haven't played this one yet since the first had an extremely underwhelming story. Still has the same core gameplay, which was interesting albeit probably made the game too easy. |

http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/06/16/derek-smart-explains-99-line-of-defense-early-access-fee/ Paying to do what is normally a paid job? Paying an absurd amount for something many developers allow you to sign up for and pay nothing whether you're accepted or not? WHERE DO I SIGN UP?!?!!112@12 Also not sure if the guy in the comments is the developer or a troll. Given how some developers act on Steam, it's not out of the question that it's the actual developer, and that's pretty sad. I guess you might get a dedicated audience, but you'll also get one that's dumb enough to part with its $99 for an unfinished product. |

That's a bit earlier than I'd like, but then again there aren't many games I'll be targeting this year anyway. I guess I'd try to get Papers, Please, The Stanley Parable, and maybe Transistor/Kentucky Route Zero, assuming I see them at decent prices. I don't *need* any of them though, so I might sit the sale out. I've got way more than enough. >.> Also: http://kotaku.com/modder-finds-files-for-better-graphics-in-watch-dogs-p-1591448324 /sigh If I'm going to pay $60 for a PC version, I expect it to be a *PC version*, with all the bells and whistles that entails. If it's this easy to make the game look and play better, I cannot see why Ubisoft shipped it without the option to play the game this way. I like how Ubisoft had a tolerable presentation at E3 and is shooting themselves in the foot with literally everything else. Good times. |

[utube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZPSrwedvsg[/utube] Y'know, I like this YouTube functionality. I like how this video focuses on AAA productions that are generally trying to tell serious stories. This isn't because I criticize such games for myriad reasons (well, I do), but because they are the biggest players in the industry, and as such have the most influence and the most players. You have to reach this audience to effect any kind of change, and the best way to do so is by discussing games they are familiar with. I would have liked to see instances where objectifying/violating women is used to move the narrative along, as opposed to getting shit like extra money, health regen, or even an achievement. Sure, this is bad and stuff, but it's very easy to play most of these games without taking part in any of the activities discussed in this video. Then again, given the description of part 2 (the rise of sexual violence against women in game narrative), she might be saving such discussion for that episode. The discussion is getting slightly more academic, but at least Anita took time to explain the terms she's using. I've probably said this before, but her target audience is by and large not familiar with sociological concepts, so they have to be explained in a way that anyone can understand. She succeeded here. But yeah, this episode feels like it answered my criticisms about previous episodes. It's the most disturbing one and the most effective one yet, IMO. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/9437-Diversity-LIEversity Posting mostly so I can lol at Ubisoft some more. I could post a proper article on the lack of playable female characters debacle, but I want to play the "it's too much effort" card too. It's ludicrous that they gave a reason other than "we didn't want to" for not including female characters. They can have sausage fests if they want, but don't insult our intelligence by saying it's "too much work". This is Ubisoft. They'll talk our ears off about the improved AI/physics in their games, the voice acting they spent millions on, how realistic their grass/water/shading/whatever else is, spend tens of millions to get those commercial slots, and so on and so forth, but apparently putting women in is too much fucking work. Bullshit. Maybe if they allocated resources and manpower more efficiently, they could have playable female characters. Maybe if video game writing were worth a damn and maybe if they assumed there were more than 18-45 year old males playing AAA productions, they could have a playable female character that improves the narrative! SteamBoy Project Yes, you read the article right, it's a portable device with which you can play most steam games on the go. ... ... Dude. That's epic. Imagine Morrowind on the train...FTL on the bus, Fallout 2 while you visit your boring family for a week during some holiday for whatever reason. If the price is right, and the right games are supported I might just have to run and buy this...oh and assuming it's not just another lame in home streaming device like the nVidia shield.
