Welp. I'm buying at some point. The game is beautiful enough in SD, but I'll finally get to play it in HD and hopefully with the best graphics settings. No minimum/recommended specs yet, though. Should prolly sell off my copies of the XIII games ASAP so I get the best value possible though.

Again, I hope this is the prelude to an XV on PC announcement.

Please put XV on PC either same day as consoles or pretty soon after.

I can wait a year. I wouldn't have a choice anyway since I won't have a PS4 at that time.

These recommended requirements are laughably low. Then again, considering the hardware that was in last-gen consoles, this probably shouldn't be much of a surprise.

I guess I can hope for better textures or mods or something. Regardless, playing in HD should be better than what I was playing the trilogy in.

Tabata's also in pursuit of a Final Fantasy that's not as overwhelming as its predecessors, and one that can be enjoyed by a broader audience. "With Final Fantasy 15, I do want to make it more casual," he says. "Of course the depth of the game is going to be there, but I want to make it so players can easily experience the satisfaction of the depth of the game." There's an option to set that car to drive itself, allowing players to sit back and take in the sights - although there is also an option to drive it manually, should they want to engage more fully with the world.

"Another example is in the combat," explains Tabata. "With the hardware specifications of the newer consoles, it's possible to set it up so you have different enemies and different choices of attacks you can enter in, but I want to simplify that. It'll basically be a one-button action, and the AI intuitively outputs an action that kind of satisfies, gives you that instant gratification, and it connects with the simple touch of a button. I myself am not getting any younger. I don't want to be frantically pushing buttons. I also want to utilise the intelligence of the hardware spec, and not have to go through too much hassle or trouble in order to execute moves."

welp the internet's going to LOVE this

Never mind that almost anything that isn't a superboss in this series can be boiled down to "attack and heal when needed". Seriously, Final Fantasy is and has always been relatively easy as far as JRPGs go.

Also never mind that whether or not "core" gamers like it, casual gamers drive the industry. There just aren't enough core gamers to justify the enormously expensive AAA productions. Making games accessible to everyone is a good thing, both in terms of business and of art.

MLG is building an arena in Columbus, Ohio. This, of course, does fuck all for me now, and I don't think MLG still does Starcraft stuff, anyway, but still, this is pretty awesome.

EDIT: Not building, exactly, but still. Pre-existing space.

A major reason To the Moon was so damn good was because its music was amazing. This game is developed by the composer of that soundtrack. Well, her and a couple of other people, but yeah.

Anyway, this game looks and sounds like it'll be awesome too. It seems to have more gameplay than To the Moon did, which is nice. It's a bit weird that the games that have been lauded for their stories as of late have also had very little to no gameplay.

Looks like another game I'll need to get sometime tho.

http://www.siliconera.com/2014/10/03/closer-look-mega-rayquaza-pokemon-omega-ruby-alpha-sapphire/

Mega Rayquaza now only has Ice and Fairy weaknesses, and Ice isn't 4x anymore. Everything is terrible. (But this thing is going straight to Ubers, not passing go, etcetera.)

Also wonder what Dragon Ascent will do. I hope it's not a two turn move, because nobody uses that shit.

Because nobody really uses the gaming community thread. It's basically whatever I feel like posting and a few replies to that, so I figured I'd post where people might read this.

I feel like gaming journalists who write these ignore one key fact: We're buying our own games. This article mentions it, but I don't feel like the writer truly understood where we're coming from. I don't begrudge gaming sites getting their games for free because if they didn't, we might not have these sites. But when you get your games for free, it's easy to dismiss that one of the quickest way for us to decide if a game is worth our money is by determining how much we'll be paying per hour of entertainment. If I'm paying more than $1 per hour, odds are I'm not buying your game at new game price, because I'm not made of money, there is a lot of competition in the gaming marketplace, and I have a lot of other stuff to do.

The last short game I bought at new game price was Persona 4 Arena. I didn't get very much out of that. I'm not a fighting enthusiast (outside of Smash because Smash), so after I ran through everyone's stories, there wasn't much for me to do. I could sit down and try to learn a character, but to what end? Nobody plays vidya in general here, and I'd assume the online base for a niche fighting game is pretty small. It's a greater time investment than Smash and for far less return. If I'm going to waste my hours, 9/10 times I'd rather waste them on new experiences.

I don't *regret* buying that game, but I would have been a far happier camper if I bought that at $20-30. At $60 it was a bad purchase outside of the fact that I'm a fiend for Persona.

Most of the short games I buy, I buy on sale. It works out pretty well. I'm a lot happier when I buy an 8-10 hour game for under ten dollars. At that point, I feel I'm getting my money's worth, even if it is a big AAA title and a lot more work went into bringing that to me than the average cheap indie game. But I'm not paying for the work people did; I am paying for their product. I concluded the odds are that their product wouldn't give me enough playtime to justify the purchase because I usually don't play online, etc.

It'd have to be a pretty special game and/or made by someone I trust for me to buy a shorter game immediately. I plan to buy A Bird Story because I bought To the Moon on sale and it turned out to be one of my favorite games ever. Unfortunately it comes out during the most crowded time of the year, but once I find the money for that (or if I get a Steam gift card for Christmas, maybe), I'm definitely buying it. I should buy Transistor because Bastion was a really good experience, but again, money, other games, etc.

But yeah, I wonder how you guys decide what games you'll buy. I mean, "it looks like a good game" is THE reason we all decide to buy a game, but if that's all it took, we'd all own a lot more games. I'm interested in what, if anything, overrides the urge to make decisions based upon how much it'll cost per hour of entertainment.

EDIT: http://www.joystiq.com/2014/10/03/happy-18th-birthday-n64/

Happy birthday to an awesome console and a better controller than the Gamecube controller. The N64 was an extremely hit-or-miss console, but the hits were HUGE hits.

totally not trolling about teh gcn controller no sirree

On the price to enjoyment point, the games I have gotten the most out of are the indie games that I bought for anywhere between 2 and 15 dollars. Each one (Terraria, Binding of Isaac, FTL) I have easily put in over a hundred hours into, and I think FTL is bordering on nearly 200. I simply don't get that kind of enjoyment out of the big AAA titles anymore, unless it is something like Metal Gear because Kojima.

Also,

Here is an interesting video/podcast about the recent changes to the Steam store and how it impacts the devs and other parts about the current state of the gaming industry from an insider's perspective. It has Totalbiscuit, Howard Tsao of Muse Games (Guns of Icarus), Mike Bithell (Thomas Was Alone), Andrew Spearin of New World Interactive (Insurgency), Mike Rose of Gamasutra, and Tom Ohle from the PR firm Evolve. It runs nearly 3 hours long, but it is a fascinating look into the gaming industry from the journalistic, developer, and the PR side of it all. There's also discussion on paid advertisement content, and the ethics thereof.

I always kinda feel I am the only one on the forums that find this kind of insider insight interesting, but I have been proven wrong about a few dozen things. I am curious about what you guys think about this kind of thing.

You killed all my interest at three hours. I could read the damn transcript in 20-30 minutes and get most of the same shit out of it. It's a horribly inefficient use of my time.

I'll ALWAYS prefer reading to a video if that's possible.
