That didn't appeal to me at all and I usually love JRPGs. Wonder why not.

welcome to Persona 5 News: The Thread

I mean... This is awesome news. Randomly generated dungeons are one of my biggest annoyances in this type of game. They work for rogue-likes because those are built on the idea of not knowing what to expect each playthrough. Most other RPGs, not so much.

MC's Persona not being based on something out of mythology is different but whatever.

I think the only reason Bethesda would do this is that they have a new TES or Fallout to announce. I can't see why they'd go to this trouble otherwise. I guess it's possible they have a new IP they're excited about too/as well.

Hoping for TES VI, whatever it might be.

I'd be pretty hyped for a Dishonored 2 or Rage 2 as well...but man, this HAS to be Fallout 4 or TES VI can't be anything else.

I would honestly be pretty surprised if it was another TES game, I mean, we've already had two in a row (albeit one being a shitty (probably) MMO). Yeah, we got FO3 followed by NV just two years later, but still...three TES games in a row sounds a bit crazy (it's been 5 years since the last FO game as well).

But man, either way I am hyped beyond fucking belief, and I will pre-order that shit so hard my mouse will explode.

Guess I'll be upgrading my rig when this shit releases (probably a year away).

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/02/13/peter-molyneux-interview-godus-reputation-kickstarter/

Holy hell, where do I *begin*?

If you bother to read the entirety of this gigantic load of tripe, it should become apparent very early on in the "interview" that both sides are wholly unprofessional. RPS's first question sets the tone for the whole interview, and it doesn't get much better. I guess there are a few places where this feels like an interview between two professionals, but for the most part this reads like RPS went in with the intent of "taking Molyneux to task" and pandering to an audience that by and large feels Molyneux overhypes and underdelivers. I do agree that Molyneux does these things with every game he makes, but I also feel Hanlon's Razor applies in this case. I simply think he's a developer who's excited about his latest game and one who loses sight of crucial realities of the business, not someone who's lying to get us to spend money.

Also not a fan of RPS thinking it can speak for the project's backers. I don't think the interviewer understands Kickstarter at all. Sure, many of the backers are probably mad, understandably so. They put their money into this, whether it's $1 or thousands of dollars. They have a right to be mad that they haven't gotten their product/perks yet, even if they should have known that was always a possibility. But what about those who *aren't* mad, those who realize that Kickstarter doesn't mean you'll get anything, that creative endeavors take time, and that they don't always go straight from point A to point B for whatever reasons? I resent the implication that I should be mad because someone didn't put out their product in some arbitrary frame of time. Shit is dumb.

You know, I want better games journalism, like a certain movement that shall not be named purports to. I do want more interviews where sites can sit down with figures like Molyneux and actually talk to them about fucking video games, about the process of making them, marketing them, anecdotes that go on behind the scenes, and whatever else that might be worth reading about. I want more stuff like Kotaku's series of layoffs in the industry. I want more stuff like the Grantland articles I've posted in this thread, most of which are better journalism/critique than what we see on actual gaming websites. But most of what we get is tepid reviews that might DARE to bust out the dreaded 5/10 for a bad game, gender/sexuality/race-based criticism that is quite frankly 101 level, trailers to hype various aspects of an upcoming game, and whatever else won't scare publishers away from advertising on their site.

I don't want stuff like this. It's Fox News-level. It's not hard-hitting journalism; it's just a hatchet job.

#videogames

This is the shit that happens when you want to put out a game for Christmas, instead of taking all the time needed to ensure the customer is getting a quality product. Shit like this is reasons 1, 2, and 3 why you should be wary of pre-ordering things. (Especially something you know is going to be in every store.)

EDIT: Might as well add in a couple more things.

I don't mind hacked Pokemon insofar as they're possible, no matter how unlikely, in-game. But yeah, I post this mostly for event Pokemon you might have missed. I'll be using this to complete my living dex/maybe pick up a few other things.

The article pretty much sums it up, really. More To the Moon is always a good thing, though at some point I think we want Finding Paradise.

The fact that they STILL haven't fixed Halo MCC is quite hilarious, yet sad, because the game was still a success.

Battlefield 4 was my lesson to stop pre-ordering (although I did pre-order Bayonetta and Dark Souls 2, because fuck yeah). I simply don't pre-order, or buy, triple AAA games until I see some reviews and community feedback (unless it's TES: VI or FO4).

I pre-order almost every game I buy, but all the games o but are Nintendo games and I've yet to be letdown this generation. I mainly pre-order though because Nintendo games can be hard to find at launch and I get ten dollars store credit at my local game store

I do feel quite confident pre-ordering Nintendo games because they've always been polished at launch.

And that $10 store credit sure doesn't hurt!

http://www.pcgamer.com/electronic-arts-closes-simcity-studio-maxis-emeryville/

Fuck you, EA. Fuck you.

Maxis lasted longer under the EA banner than most, but they were also bought by EA before they became the EA we all know and hate. Sigh. I just want a better SimCity, really. Idk what this means for the franchise. =/

Was just coming here to post that. The series is probably going to be shelved, I guess. If you want an alternative, Cities: Skyline is looking pretty good.

I don't think there's anything in the whole city-building genre that compares to SimCity at its best (so, 3000/4). Cities: XL is obviously inferior, the Cities in Motion series has seemed to focus more so on transportation than the whole city-building experience (maybe Skylines changes that, but I'm not buying it at $30), couldn't really get into Tropico 4 and I hear 5 is a step back... Blah. Let's not get into things like Towns.

EDIT: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/best-buy-s-100-game-discount-program-dropping-to-3/1100-6425693/

Pays for itself after three console games, or four handheld games. You can also save on the relatively common Amiibos too I guess. A pretty damn good deal if you ask me.
