From the couple of gameplay videos I've seen of Skylines, it is much more like what Sim City should have been. You start with a plot of land that is roughly the same size as the Sim City blocks, but you can actually buy more land and all that stuff. I'll keep an eye on it and I'll probably pick it up eventually and give you my thoughts when I do.

Related to the Skylines discussion, it is not made by the same people as the XL stuff and all that.

Woo!

That's good to hear, glad pretty much every Norwegian bank got rid of java for their log-on sometime last year. Don't think I even have Java on this computer, so that's nice.

I think it is once again time
to
get
HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE

Sounds like Tales of Graces (at least, combat-wise) with infinitely better production values. Open world is awesome if said open world has interesting things to do. Not sure about the characters yet but whatever; you can't really judge characterization from trailers/hype pieces like this.

Obv rooting for dat PC release. A major JRPG coming out on PC on/near day one would be a game-changer.

GOOD JOB GAMERGATE

Been saying this for a while now, but archival is a serious issue for the medium. We're nearing the point at which many video games will be all but lost. Sure, you can still play most games if you put in a bit of legwork finding the game/system if need be and even getting it to run on a modern rig if on PC, but that time won't last forever. I don't really know how long it'll last (five years? fifty?), but it should concern any gamer worried about the medium's history, even if they don't actively play older titles. Even Gamergate loses out here, not that they'll see this. They'll just be like "BUT GOG".

GOG probably does the best work bringing classics to us in a playable form, but even they cannot possibly preserve everything for future generations. They're a business; they're going to (mostly) pick games that can make them money so they can invest in more titles/put profits towards other ventures. We need people who aren't concerned with making money, like collectors and academics, to be a part of this as well.

We'll probably always have the true classics, your FF7s and the like, in one form or another because they make money. The most terrible games will always be remembered as an example of what not to do, even if they aren't actively preserved (though they should be IMO). What we're really in danger of losing are cult hits like, say, No One Lives Forever, along with games that weren't well-received but perhaps enjoyable nonetheless.

Leigh Alexander's/BoingBoing's newest venture, dedicated to giving minority vidya game writers a platform. Right now it seems there are only two writers, but that should change as the site picks up steam.

But yeah, there's already some good stuff. I especially enjoyed and agreed with Leigh Alexander's article on Life is Strange. It's probably the most fun I've had playing a video game in some time, however one wants to define "fun". Can't wait for episode two, which I hope comes out at the end of the week. The article previews are amazing; I'll know within seconds if this is an article I want to keep reading. Sites in general need to steal this idea. It might not look the prettiest but I am way more concerned with usability than aesthetics. The only criticism I have is that articles are quite short, but maybe they were just trying to get some amount of content for launch. Idk.

GET HYPE

I'm most hyped to know SMT x FE isn't vaporware, at least at this point in time. I get that both Atlus and Nintendo don't show things off until they have something worth a damn, but this wait has been ridiculous.

Outside of the obvious Nintendo stuff, ME4, Mirror's Edge 2, No Man's Sky, Persona 5 (of course), Rise of the Tomb Raider, RB4, and maybe Star Wars: Battlefront mite b cool. Holy shit EA might have a good presentation this year.

IGN be derping, ME4 only says PS4 and Xbox One.

But man, this year is looking good.
Zelda, Star Fox, Mass Effect, No Man's Sky and Star Wars: Battlefront. Xenoblade Chronicles X also intrigues me (I'll be curious if I need to have played XC to understand anything).

Plenty of awesome stuff to look forward to!

We don't need another repeat of 2014, the year of new release dates.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND

Can't say I'm terribly surprised, though. From the get-go it didn't really look like it would come out in 2015, but the Wii U needs something, anything, so... I guess I held out hope.

I personally would much rather a game that was delayed for these reasons than a game that was rushed to meet deadlines.
