Some people (like me) just want figures of their favorite characters that are both good looking and cheap. Amiibo does this nicely, or at least they would be if they were available at all.

I can assure you that most people are buying them because they're cool figures instead of their abilities in games. Hell, I've even bought some Disney Infinity figures and I don't own the game for them. The figures just look really good.

I've used my Yoshi in Smash once or twice, and while the functionality is kinda cool, I like Yoshi regardless. It's sitting alongside my Yoshi and Espeon plushies, which have even less functionality built in because they're plushies. They're both adorbs, so I can't say I care.

I wanted cheap, affordable figurines of characters I like. The functionality is secondary. It's nice to have, but it's not something I feel adds substance to any game outside of Smash and maybe Splatoon. Like Volt said, there are a lot of people who feel this way. $13 (plus S&H if applicable) isn't a lot to pay for something that's easy on the eyes.

I guess it's kinda like beanie babies but I bought my Wii Fit Trainer one (at a not-so-nice price, since they made so few of her) since I like the character, I could use it in-game, and a friend who likes painting Warhammer figurines helped paint mine to the yellow tone I use in-game which was cool. I'm a little disappointed in the "learning AI" since I believe it just reads the frequency of your moves and adjusts to use your preferred moves more - which means it doesn't really emulate your style. Kinda disappointing, but fortunately I think she's learning to go for Dair / Side-B spikes which I like seeing pulled off.

I'll end up getting Charizard (lol that's a lie I'm at work and they'll be gone 5 minutes after the stores open) and perhaps Game & Watch but definitely not as obsessive as some people out there. When you start losing sleep because you're tracking orders or getting sick from waiting in line for hours for some $13 figurine there's a problem. I think it's fine to enjoy your favorites and if you have the money collect them all but some people are taking it to an extreme.

I hate amiibo and the whole craze. Idk why it's as popular as it is honestly. Fucking beanie babies.
u seem mad bro

But really, it's like collecting anything. I remember when I was a kid and I would get so excited to finally get the baseball card or X-Men card or whatever I'd been wanting. I have no intention to purchase any amiibo but I totally understand the excitement and desire.

If I ever get around to buying some Amiibos I'll just be getting Charizard, Samus, Donkey Kong and Yoshi, because they're all pretty cool looking.

Getting hold of amiibos here isn't too hard as demand isn't insane like in the states (I mean wtf?).

First in line trying to get Ness, already got charizard. Hot to target fifteen minutes after they were open and the rare three were already sold out. Still had pacman, charizard, wario, and all the splatoon ones

I hate games with Day One DLC and the whole craze. Idk why it's as popular as it is honestly. Fucking beanie babies.

amiibo are figures and stuff that happen to have in-game functionality. Games have been shipping with promo figurines for years. The only difference here is that there are more available. The only example of amiibo being actively awful design is Splatoon's amiibo essentially being Day One DLC. There is no rational reason to be angry over amiibo's existence as they're essentially just toys. People collect toys, people collect whatever. Of course people will collect uniform figurines of all their favourite Nintendo characters.

Seriously? Grow up man.

Literally your last few posts have been copying what I say but changing words. Just stop it dude, you're entitled to your thoughts as I am to mine. It's just dumb that you've been changing my words around.

Both a y'all'z needs ta chiiiiiiiill. Opinions are cool but you two sometimes seem to take other people's opinions as personal attacks against your beliefs. I doubt that's true, but it comes off that way sometimes. But I'm sure you both have stressful lives -- because everyone does -- and video games are supposed to be a fun way to relieve that stress (except esports). Let's just take a moment to step back and prepare ourselves for the Steam sale that apparently begins on June 11, which feels earlier than usual and is strange because there was an announcement this time but PCGamer is declaring it fact and not a rumor so they don't seem to have any doubts but uh here's a link http://www.pcgamer.com/steam-summer-sale-to-start-june-11/

Only thing I'm really planning on getting during the Steam sale is Shadow of Mordor, but I'm not sure if there is a "GotY" edition available for it yet, which is what I'd like to get.

I might pick up some cool indie games if they're cheap (~50 kroners or so).

Not sure how calling anyone who likes something you don't a "fucking baby" is anything but childish but okay

I'm just so sick and tired of watching the industry I am currently about to try and spend my entire life in being driven into the ground and then reading "lmao i have EVOLVE and i'm going to shit on amiibo" grinds my gears. Like, a lot. I'm not going to bother replying any more though, stopped really coming here because I'm way too pissed off with other shit and while it's unfair to take it out on you, I am genuinely upset that gaming is in the shittiest phase it has ever been in its ENTIRE life as a form of media and we're eating it up anyway. Wii U is shit, Xbone is shit, PS4 is shit, PC is saved exclusively by a pile of indie games and when you look at the stuff games are capable of now I'm not sure why we took so many fucking strides backwards instead of any steps forwards

Um, beanie babies are collectable toys of yonder year. I was comparing the craze for amiibo like beanie babies. Wasn't calling anyone names, man. Like dwest said, they're collectables too, which I can see. I don't personally see the point in getting them, but that's just me. I'm not trying to deter anyone from anything, but also just because I own Evolve doesn't discount my opinion on things. I didn't buy any of the DLC for Evolve, in fact, I couldn't tell you the last time I bought DLC (I will for Batman but that's cuz I'm a fanboy, self admittedly).

Sorry if I made you mad, it wasn't my intention.

basically what ducks said.

Beanie Babies at least in the US were popular for a few years. but they served no purpose. they were just a brand that caught on a phase and millions of people bought them constantly just to collect them. thats what he was referencing
