and when you look at the stuff games are capable of now I'm not sure why we took so many fucking strides backwards instead of any steps forwards
You know the reason as well as I do. I don't have to spell it out, right?

I don't think it's hard to discuss these toys civilly. I wasn't bothered by Ducks' comparison; I felt it was quite apt. Amiibos *are* the Beanie Babies of our era, though I'd be willing to bet they have a bit more staying power because Nintendo. I don't get why anyone would be bothered by the comparison unless they felt attacked for liking something childish. Come on, we're Nintendo fans. The games are inherently childish (with mechanics that can keep adults engaged, at least in more difficult levels), and that shouldn't be an insult. It's only an insult because Western society as a whole is concerned with looking more mature than it is.

Day One DLC and Amiibos aren't exactly comparable. Sure, you can argue they're both "a craze", but people buy them for entirely different reasons and there's an entirely different process to making the things. The former will never suffer a shortage, the latter is *known* for shortages. Maybe the point was to show that you can say "I don't understand why X is popular" about anything, but there are more civil ways to do that.

As for the Steam sale, I'm sticking mostly to my wishlist. Maybe if there are things not on it that have great deals, I'll buy them, but my wishlist is the games I want to play most. There isn't a whole lot I need, so... yeah.

I think that honestly was just a bit of a miscommunication tbh, guessing beanie babies were never big in Europe? Heck they're still big in America with the 2.0s and Beanie Boos.

Although it was never my intention, I somehow made it out today with Charizard, Ness, the Splatoon 3 pack, and somehow miraculously, Robin. I got the last two at my local game store and did not expect that at all, especially considering Gamestop wasn't even getting any Fire Emblem ones in stock.

I REALLY need Jigglypuff. I stood outside Gamestop for an hour and a half and paid almost $30 for Captain Falcon, so no way in hell am I going to not be able to get the last of the original 12 smash members since I have the other 11. Hopefully I can import it from Japan relatively cheap considering Jigglypuff's popularity in Japan.

Once I get Pacman (which I could've got today, but didn't want to especially since he should be relatively easy to find) then I'm pretty much giving up on really trying to get any. Yes there are plenty more I would love to get, but the only other one I need to complete a collection is Ganondorf to finish my Zelda lineup. I'd like to have one from each series, but hell if that'll happen. Best I can do is hope the off chance I find some cool ones when the next wave releases

Hmm, seems the Nintendo NX may run on Android.

This is interesting, I'm not sure what to make of it, though, and it's likely too early to speculate upon it regardless.

I'd just like to say kudos to everyone here (so, everyone) who ignored the temptation to post about Hatred. Outside of a couple of gory executions, the game looks a lot tamer than the trailers led us to believe. There's blood, but for the most part the game is less gory than a fair number of other games out there. As far as I know, it looks like a competent twin stick shooter with no message beyond "kill a lot of people". There's something to be said for brutal honesty. I do feel a game could be made that comments on the mindless killing we so often do in the vidya, but Hatred is not that game. Didn't want to be that game, fair enough.

I don't know. After watching Jim Fucking Sterling, Son play a bit of the game, I'm left wondering what it is that the gaming internet got so mad about. I understand laughing at the damn thing; the trailers were and still are the edgiest things to ever edge in Edgetown. The main character is an amalgamation of every stereotype about basement dwellers/brooders there is, and his unintentionally hilarious lines reflect this. Well-adjusted people cannot take this shit seriously, but if I've learned anything over the past year or two, it's that there are a lot of gamers who aren't well-adjusted people.

This "controversy" would have never happened in another medium. People understand there's a market for schlock like this in other media and they ignore the fucking schlock. The Hatred developers saw the divide between the gaming media/critics and average players who don't care about cultural criticism/political correctness in their games and masterfully exploited it in their marketing. Maybe this game would have sold decently on its own merits, but thanks to the marketing and the sometimes hysterical coverage of the game, it's going to move a lot more copies than it otherwise would have. I guess that's smart business.

That said, I'll be taking a pass. Doesn't look all that interesting to me. It'd lose its novelty in an hour or two, tops.

http://www.pcgamer.com/new-steam-refund-policy-lets-you-get-your-thatmoney-back-for-any-reason/

Steam refunds tho.

Steam finally caught up to Origin/EA in arguably the one area they were behind in, refunds. This policy is more encompassing than Origin's, which you can see as both a good and bad thing.

I don't think play time is a good indicator in every case. Titles like Gone Home and The Stanley Parable are really short and can easily be completed in two hours, but I'd also imagine that most people buying those games are decent people who understand the value of supporting indie developers. Games like Civilization V and The Witcher 3 are games you can't get an idea about in two hours. So... Yeah, I think there need to be more flexible criteria for some games, but that would also be too much work to implement for a relative few outliers. I think the ideal would be to base the time on the average playtime of a given game, which can't be hard to do for Valve.

Sure, there will be people who abuse the system by playing 1:59 and/or copying files to another folder, but I think it won't be enough people to worry about. If you care enough to abuse a refund system, you might as well spare yourself the bullshit and pirate. For the most part I think it's a good system.

FUCK YEAH BUYING DAY ONE

I just hope they don't make Velvet the female equivalent of Lloyd or Senel or whoever. Rather tired of the "I FIGHT FOR MY FRIENDS" protagonists of the series.

WATCHING THIS SO YOU DON'T FUCKING EVER DO IT. (I already watched the PC gaming show, so I'm dead inside as it is.)

The article is pretty clear that this is shit, but posting reactions anyway because if I don't I'll go insane.
