Then his third strike was because JokerDonny made a thread that broke the rules or something, Marill posted in it, then Donny deleted his OP which made Marill's post the OP, so the mods thought Marill made it and was banned.

I'm pretty sure this is the definition of getting pwnt.

I never got banned on the GHH. All I ever got was a warning for reviving a few dead threads back when I first joined. The GHH was the first forum website I joined so I didn't really know any better. Actually, I think the only website I got banned from was Club Penguin. Twice actually. First time was from somebody at school saw me type in my password and then she went on my account and cussed a few times. 2nd was an accident when I tried to say someone had a neat shirt but I ended up typing shit by accident. :( I haven't played CP in at least 5 years now. Don't have a clue on what my account or password would even be…

Lolol, I laughed harder than I should have at Lightning's post.

Also, not only that, but Donny got warned for making the thread so then he deleted his post and I got warned for making the thread.

http://kotaku.com/5879439/why-an-xbox-with...s-perfect-sense

Sure, it makes perfect sense from the perspective of game publishers, and perhaps Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo, assuming they get a cut or some shit. I don't know how that works.

Unfortunately I am a gamer. This makes zero sense from my perspective. Hell, it makes negative sense.

I buy used games. Surely this statement does not shock anyone. A lot of us get used games for various reasons: better deals, smaller incomes, draconian business practices, or perhaps other reasons that I didn't mention. They aren't the point. What *is* the point is that there is a vibrant used games industry, much like there's a vibrant secondary industry for every product ever, and its existence hurts nobody. The difference is that everyone else accepts this is a cost of doing business. They know that perhaps they'll recover that supposed "lost sale" down the road because the customer wound up loving the product, when prices are almost inevitably higher anyway.

The video game industry is not fucking special. Why the hell should they be literally the *only* industry that tries to dictate how we purchase and use our products? Even the -AAs don't try to cockblock us with anti-used CD/DVD shit.

There are also other good points against this: people who have a console break, people who own multiple consoles and wish to share a game, people who won't connect their console online, and so on. Their arguments are all offshoots of mine anyway, that being we as consumers should dictate how we (legally!) use and resell the product, not the publishers.

The best way to get us to spend our $60 is to give us an incentive to buy new, not a punishment for buying used. There is a difference. Giving those who pre-order a soundtrack or some shit? That's an incentive. Making used purchasers buy an online pass? That's basically a punishment for being poor/not wanting to throw $60 down on a game they might not like.

Actually, the best way to get us to throw that $60 at publishers is to make a great game with no bullshit. I don't want online passes, day one DLC that OBVIOUSLY should have been on-disc, DRM that only inconveniences me as a legitimate customer, etcetera.

Thats partially why i go to gamestop. They may not have a great incentive to buy new, but usually when I buy new at gamestop, they have a free dlc voucher for most games. I think the last dlc voucher I got from them was a couple of costumes for LittleBig Planet 2. Incentives to buy new are out there, you just got to know where to look for them.

I know, I do most of my game shopping on Amazon. If there isn't a bonus from the publisher there, Amazon generally gives at least $10 off on the next game. Yay free money.

I'm prolly going to order the collector's edition of FFXIII-2 in the upcoming days, assuming Amazon still has it after the actual release. Sucks that I won't get the battle with Omega because I didn't pre-order, but I'll get the four disc soundtrack for only an extra $20. I don't mind paying more for awesome shit I'll use, like that.

But walk into a Wal-Mart or something and most of the incentives are gone because you didn't pre-order/shop online. Kind of laem IMO.

Oh dont even get me started on those assholes at wal mart. Those twats would not know their asses from a hole in the ground. I got so fed up with them cause they would not sell me a display item when they were sold out of the regular stock. I took my $700 I was going to spend on a tv and took it to someone whom wanted my money.

I can see the passes happening for games that have online support.
For games like Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 3 etc. which main pull is the single player, I would imagine it being the same way it is for Battlefield 3. On BF3 you can play the single player campaign all you want, but if you want to play online, you have to redeem an online pass code.
So I guess what I'm saying is that this could work very well for games that have the option to play online, and if you bought the game used you would have to pay a small fee of $10 to play the game online, although you could play it for infinity hours in single player mode.

It seems like a good way for publishers to make that extra bit of cash on used games, businesses like GameStop could keep doing what they do. As the article suggested the game stores could sell online passes, I don't think that would be necessary, I'd much rather see it be done the same way as for BF3 where you simply buy an online pass through the PS Store if the copy is a second hand copy.

I guess there's still the issue with second hand games that don't have any online aspects. If there would be a fee for those games, it would have to be small, no more than $5 in my opinion.
Let's say you buy a used copy of RDR, you would have to pay $5 to play the game (that's retarded) and then another $5 to play the game online (not *as* retarded).

Bottom line, paying a small fee to play second hand games online is in my opinion ok, but having to pay for the single player is NOT ok.

That's all well and good, but what makes video games so special? Would you stand for this with other products?

I guess they can do it in large part because of the technology, but if that's all there were to it, I think we'd see such practices in other areas. Corporations are in this to make money, after all, and why would they pass up free money? Yet, plenty of software allows more than one install (allowing us to share/put it on a new computer) and we can put our music on as many devices as we wish without extra bullshit fees.

I suppose the difference is that people aren't willing to take it with those products. I have to wonder why it is that gamers are willing to accept what I feel are *extremely* anti-consumer practices.

Personally I suspect it's tied to the "support the industry" narrative that gamers have been sold. A lot of gamers will justify anything under the auspices of keeping the industry alive, yet it's never been more alive.

Theres a few reasons that no used games is stupid. For one, alot of older games can't or are hard to find new. Second, if alot of people are like myself, they buy a game used, and if they like it good enough they preorder the sequel new. Plus companies still make money off of the DLC which you can't buy used unless it's a GOTY or Special edition.
