That trailer is pretty amazing. Nice to see more characters added to the cast. Honestly looks so much better than either P3 or P4 already.

Also, A-1 Pictures generally has pretty fantastic animation quality and general production values (Erased, Sword Art Online, Your Lie in April, Aldnoah.Zero, Grimgar, countless others). I'm not sure why their video game adaptations look bad, but they're the exceptions for whatever reason.
This is true. Tbh I forgot they did some of those series (like Aldnoah.Zero... should have recalled Erased/Grimgar tho), didn't know they did others because I haven't watched them, and I'm always going to be salty about Ace Attorney, so...

I don't get why one type of adaptation would look awful but other stuff looks much better. My guess would be the budget for their video game adaptations is smaller for whatever reasons and/or they put less talented teams on that stuff. I can't think of any other plausible explanations.

But yeah, I just want to avoid another Ace Attorney situation, this time with my favorite modern IP. All it boils down to.

The fact that some of you weird crazy cat people will choose the cat starter in Sun/Moon makes me sick to my stomach.

Popplio for life, tbh.

Crazy cat person reporting in. Currently #TeamRowlet, actually.

Litten is kinda meh. I think it's the eyes that really turn me off the design. They're just... not cute. Most of the best-designed Pokemanz also have really good eyes and those are just idfk what.

also i forgot to watch the stream im so pro

Rowlet is acceptable. Might even become the better option depending on the evolutions.

#TeamRowlet

Litten is easily #3 on my list.

I don't really like any of them, honestly. None of them had the immediate appeal that every other generation's starters had.

Although I guess Rowlet is the best of the three.

I like them all personally. They took me back when I first saw them, but they grew on me. I don't really know a choice so far until I see evolutions. They all have plenty potential for evolutions. Theyre not the best gen, but its a lot better to me than Gen 3-5 where there is only one option that I legitimately like. This could change though if their evolutions are terrible like how I felt with other starters before.

As of now though, I'm leaning either Litten or Popplio.

Litten and Rowlet are cool, but Popplio is an abomination. He looks like a clown/seal hybrid that would be the monster in a scary story for children.

And strangely, Litten looks like the brooding protagonist of the same story.

http://www.siliconera.com/2016/07/18/new-persona-5-footage-shows-off-activities-like-shopping-fishing-boxing/

time to get hype MOTHERFUCKERS

Maid cafe confirmed, so this is obviously GOTYAY. Well, at least until a game with a catgirl cafe comes out.

DEMON NEGOTIATION. We knew this was back, but this is the first really good look at it. The E3 footage was lower quality than this. Kind of hope this is an indicator gameplay is going to be brought more in line with the other SMT games, or Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Persona is too easy at times nahimean?

Some of this music is excellent, but it's Shoji Meguro so who's surprised at that. You can definitely hear the jazz influence in this OST and it's incredible.

There wasn't enough Haru I take back my GOTYAY statement. She's obvious best girl thus far. Well, her or the motorcycle riding girl. We won't know who the true best girl is until the game comes out, but what fun is it if we don't stake our claims as to whom best girl is *now*?

Looks like there is going to be soooooooooo muuuuuuuch random stuff to do. I just hope very little of it is tied to social links, or whatever they're calling social links now. I forget, but I don't think it matters much since a social link-esque feature will likely be in the game. But yeah, fishing to max the Fox's social link was the worst part of its social link, and probably the worst thing in P4 in general. I don't mind so much if it's tied to trophies; you can dedicate a run to shit like that. Would still suck ass though.

After watching today's Persona stream, Temperance is a new contender for waifu. She also works in the maid cafe omgomgomg. SHE'S SO CUTE. The Devil isn't half bad either, but not quiiiiite on Temperance/Haru level.

All the character designs so far are pretty good though. There isn't one that I look at and think "this is bad", even for the males, which is a miracle. Soejima da best.

Interesting that they're using the French names for tarot cards this time around. Still easy to figure out what they are for the most part (obviously The Devil, The Sun, and The Tower are in there), but yeah.

http://www.siliconera.com/2016/07/19/persona-5s-new-free-roam-dungeon-is-the-scale-of-the-entire-persona-4-game/

I'm not sure how to feel. As much as I geek out about this series, the auto-generated dungeons are still terrible. I know Atlus can do dungeons that don't suck; Strange Journey and Etrian Odyssey IV both have fun and intricate dungeons. Even Persona Q has its moments, though none are up to the standards of dungeons in Strange Journey/EO4.

I guess the most I can hope for is that this shit is fun in spite of auto-generated dungeons.

I love this.

Persona 4's intro was great, but it was also like two hours before you did anything gameplay-wise other than the first two tutorial sections. This is also obviously tutorial, but it's definitely more exciting and you get to do something that might not be 100% scripted. Maybe 95% scripted.

http://www.siliconera.com/2016/07/19/persona-5-gets-updated-opening-animation-featuring-characters/

I didn't catch Haru/Makoto the first time around, so re-watching was coo'. Still, the new characters aren't in the OP as much as the first four we were introduced to. It's also impressive that the English has come so far. We used to get some bad Engrish in Persona games mayne. (see: the P3 OST) This isn't perfect by any means, but it's pretty good.

Just be better than Ace Attorney, please. I don't care if Atlus has to fund this shit, just make it better.

http://kotaku.com/report-nintendo-nx-is-a-portable-console-1784314749

My first reaction: RIP. This isn't what the "hardcore" want, but what the hardcore want is another powerful box with little to distinguish it from the other two outside of Nintendo games. In an era where the major two consoles get 95% of the same games, I'm not entirely sure that we need another box just to play the same fucking games and the Nintendo exclusives.

I think there is value in making a console that won't compete with the XB1/PS4. Japanese developers outside of Squeenix (but they're Squeenix and have FF/DQ) don't push a console to its limits because that shit costs a lot of money, far too much for them to risk on one game. There's a reason this gen might as well be the remaster gen, and that's because those cost far less money to make than a new game and are basically guaranteed profits. I don't want Nintendo to go down this rabbit hole of ever-increasing development costs and I don't think they want to either. Something will have to change at some point, and hardcore gamers don't seem willing to give up either their $60 price tag (hence microtransactions) or their high-fidelity graphics (hence remasters).

Indie developers don't have that kind of money either, and I think it'd behoove Nintendo to play nice with those developers. Indie titles would be a a good and relatively cheap way to expand/round out the library of the NX. I'm not sure what indie games I'd prefer on the NX over the PC, but there are a lot of console-only people.

Nintendo exclusives don't really do it for me as much anymore. Haven't picked up a Mario at new game price since Galaxy, and I picked up Galaxy 2 because it was $10 for the first week or two (I think two) on Wii U. Mario Kart 8 was fun as a Mario Kart always is, but I haven't revisited that as much as I'd have thought despite it being the best Kart since 64, if not in the series. At this point, only Xenoblade and Fire Emblem get me excited, as does Zelda to a lesser extent. All three are pretty much guaranteed, so I might get the NX at some point. We'll see I guess. Certainly not on launch date though.

Going back to carts is underrated. Discs used to have more storage space, but we can now buy 32 GB microSD cards for like ten dollars. Price aside, carts never had the loading issues of discs. Nobody likes loading times; they result in loading screens/stutter and basically just ruin immersion. Loading times will never go away, but carts should reduce them because you have memory on cart and don't have a relatively slow disc reader to deal with. Nowadays we can save to the system instead of the cart, so losing our saves because the battery dies isn't an issue.

But yeah. This idea might not cater to the Western "hardcore" audience, which always wants MORE POWER and sounds like an even dumber Tim Taylor while braying for MORE POWER, but it might be a success overall. Nintendo handhelds have always been decently priced, and supported well. Barring something incredibly dumb like no battery life or a ridiculous price tag, I don't think that will change with the NX.

I both love and hate this idea?

So, I have plenty of question first and foremost. Like most importantly, will it be able to connect additional controllers? One of Nintendo's biggest strength is that it has the best four player couch multiplayer games on the market. I can't imagine not being able to play four player on the same tv for Smash Bros, Mario Kart, or Mario 3D World. That is normally where I get about 70% of enjoyment out of my Nintendo systems.

Next question would be will it have traditional controls? I don't mean in terms of motion control or anything like it, but as in will it feature two sticks, 4 triggers, 6 face buttons, and a control pad? Or will it be like the picture? If so that completely limits what kind of games you can play. Sure all the main games Nintendo makes would work like Mario, Mario Kart, Pokemon, and to a lesser extent Zelda, but it would definitely make them less satisfying to play. Not to mention games like Metroid Prime would be near unplayable or only playable while in portable mode, which would be terrible in my opinion. Not to mention it would limit the heck out of any third party titles.

I guess my main concern is controller functionality. As long as the Wii U Pro Controller or something EXTREMELY similar can connect and allow for tons of multiplayer action, then all is good. I need multiplayer on my Nintendo home consoles otherwise it renders plenty of my favorite games useless or at least boring as can be. And no I shouldn't have to buy four consoles for that enjoyment.

Otherwise I like the concept as long as they keep it relatively cheap. If I can take it with me wherever than basically it becomes a handheld with console functionality. I think that is awesome. Especially if it is at least as powerful as the Wii U, though I would prefer it somewhere closer to the Xbox One range considering how long those consoles have been out. It will definitely sell in its home country considering the popularity of mobile games over there. Console gamers in the US probably won't pick it up, but if they can keep costs down then at the least it will be able to bring in all the current DS owners plus the Nintendo faithful which will be good for Nintendo. Software is where the majority of money is made so now they can pump out games a lot faster by only worrying about one systems which should almost double the amount of games coming out on it. If anything can convince people to buy one it will definitely be the sheer amount of games on it.

If it allows me to connect controllers it will definitely be the best of both worlds. In one system I can manage to play Smash with all my friends and also take it on the go and play Pokemon or even play on the big screen. I think the prospect of a High Def Pokemon that plays on a big screen might also convince people on the fence. Pokemon Go already showed how strong that brand is and maybe that was the main goal of that game all along.

I don't think I can stress enough though. It needs to be able to register 4 controllers minimum. I can deal with not having 8 player smash, but I will not accept a future without 4 player Smash and Mario Kart. Other than that I am down as long as it is powerful enough and is fully compatible with Pokemon Bank which I assume it will be.

If it isn't backwards compatible though then this definitely means I need a replacement Gamepad or brand new Wii U so I can continue playing it. No need to sell it considering there is still a well of games I need to play along with Smash and Mario Kart to hold me over until their next iteration, unless there is no four player on the NX and I have to keep my Wii U forever.

No seriously though. Four player is like my biggest draw to games. It's why I picked over PS4 and why I am willing to spend $60 on the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games despite it being a huge ripoff.

I missed this.

Probably for the best as it's a more technical read, but the big takeaway is that the NX will very likely be less powerful than the XB1/PS4. I can only hope that translates to launching at a cheaper price and making development of games much easier/cheaper, not only for Nintendo (though more Nintendo games is great), but for whoever else wants to get in on the NX.
