Keep Moving Forward

Heh, I had a feeling you'd get my mixtape since you said you hoped you didn't get mine. It happened to Pac last time, and lo and behold, it happened again. I'm also certain I got your mixtape, and you can expect a post over it sometime tomorrow.

A few things I'd like to comment on.

I have no idea why the first 2 seconds of "Mexican Wine" was cut off, since I actually own the CD and burned it onto my computer.

Halcali is more of an acquired taste to most people, so I'm not surprised you didn't like it very much.

The Shining song was not put in there to troll; I actually like that song. I can easily see why you don't, I know it's not for everyone.

Lastly, the Yume Nikki Gensou song was kinda supposed to be a little repetitive. YNG is a fangame of Yume Nikki, and the entire soundtrack is made of remixes of songs from the original game. The original tracks were 5 to 10 second ambient loops, so it didn't have much source material to go off of. This song was the background music to the final stage of YNG, and it sounds pretty damn epic when you're slaying monsters and stuff. I guess without the context it loses its impact.

Shining - 'The Madness and Damage Done'
...Really? What the shit was this? I absolutely detested this song with every fiber of my being. The only conclusion I can fathom for the inclusion of this song was that it was meant to troll. I found the vocals to be awful and there was about a two minute stretch where the music literally hurt to listen to. It took all of my tolerance to listen through the whole song. Afterwards, I wanted to burn this to a CD just so I could break it.

D: You didn't like that song? Eh..I can most definitely see why. The song is very...experimental. A mixture of black metal and jazz is an odd mixture. Fun fact though, it won the album of the year award in Norway in 2010. :P

I keep reading these reviews going "WHY THE FUCK DID I GET FAILURE'S." It's all classic rock, with some modern-classic rock.

Just glancing at this thing, I have two things to say: 1)Omahgawsh this playlist is long. 2) Failure, what the hell. No Who? Well, let’s get started.

“California Queen” – Wolfmother
Ooooh, Wolfmother. Cosmic Egg was a kinda hit and miss album for me, but this song was one of the more standout songs. I like its transitions. Very Zeppeliny.

“Young Lust” – Pink Floyd
Hell yeah. One of my favorite Wall songs, behind the two obvious ones.

“Wanna Be In LA” – Eagles of Death Metal
Oh hey GH5. Nice to see ya. This song is fucking catchy. And then it randomly changes into “bzzzzbliefoi3qrjdfsns” for a while before going back to the melody.

“Transmaniacon MC” – Blue Oyster Cult
Oh fuck to the hellz yes. I <3 this song. I can’t really say more.

“Stop Stop” – The Black Keys
The first song on the list I haven’t heard. TBH, I have never been a big Black Keys fan. They have some cool songs, and I love that there is a successful old-school 70s rock style band out there today, but a lot of their stuff is really forgettable. This song was alright, but doesn’t really change my opinion.

“Rock and Roll” – Led Zeppelin
This song basically sums up the entire mix. Always been one of my favorite Zep songs, and is one of my favorite drum songs. Cool cool.

“Rape Me” – Nirvana
<3 Nirvana. This song isn’t necessarily my favorite, but it is pretty cool. This song seems like it’s about rape, but this is Nirvana so let me Wiki the meaning….um….nope, it’s about rape. Hum.

“No Rain” – Blind Melon
MORE GUITAR HERO. And more 90’s alternative. I sense a theme. This song is….incredibly boring. The first line is “All I can say is that my life is pretty plain”. The same could be said for this song.

“Man in the Box” – Alice in Chains
Oh hey, I know this song. I honestly don’t get the hype about this song. It’s really good, but like, ¾ of Dirt is better.

“Limelight” – Rush
WOOOOO. I have always always ALWAYS loved this song. Nice guitar, nice melody, nice drums, nice everything.

“Fell in Love With a Girl” – White Stripes
This is a short little song. Pretty punk.

“Feel Good Inc” – Gorillaz
You know, initially I thought this playlist was Saiyan’s, due to all the GH songs. Then I remembered Saiyan didn’t enter, and I noticed the Black Keys and White Stripes. Like this song. Pretty chill.

“Fault Line” – Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Omahgawsh this song was so boring. Sorry, it just sucked so bad. Super repetitive, bleh lyrics, bleh blehbleh. Worst song (so far). I think these guys had a bonus song in World Tour, and even that one was pretty bleh AFAICR.

“Even the Losers” – Tom Petty
Hey, it’s Failure’s theme song! Jk jk. I like this song, but it’s far from my favorite Petty song.

“Complete Control” – The Clash
Clash-y, punk-y. Nothing really special. Moving on.

“Communication Breakdown” – Led Zeppelin
Okay, it’s only the second Zeppelin song. Not breaking anything so fa- *sees Battle of Evermore later on* FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFU- Eh, at least it’s Zeppelin. Anyways, I’ve heard this song like, 20 times (though that could be said for a LOT of songs on this list). Basically the same as the other songs “I like it, not my favorite by them.”

“Commotion” – CCR
I thought I hadn’t heard this song before. Turns out I have. Oh well. Cool song.

“Champagne Supernova” – Oasis
Eh, not a big Oasis fan. Maybe it’s just all the “brotherly love” that keeps popping up on UG News that turns me off, but iunno. This song was really ehhhhhhh.

“Beautiful Day” – U2
YAAAAY. I lurv this song. So. Freaking. Much.

“Battle of Evermore” – Led Zeppelin
Stop breaking rules. Bleh. Anyways, this is basically acoustic Zeppelin with LotR lyrics. Pretty self-explanatory. I really like it, but it’s not super amazing. The vocals are outstanding though.

“Love Spreads” – Stone Roses
Oh boy, more GH songs. This song sounds like old school country-blues-rock (I guess George Thorogood would be a nice comparison). At least, until the vocals kick in. The vocals are kinda spacey, but still pretty good.

In summation, this was a pretty nice mix. Was basically what I expected from Failure (except no Who, which was weird, since I thought you loved them Failure?). There were only like, 3 songs I hadn’t heard before. I would say my favorites were “Transmaniacon MC”, “Rock and Roll”, and “Limelight” with honorable mentions to “Love Spreads” and “Beautiful Day”.

I give it a 7.5/10 for content.

2/10 for diversity.

Wait I put three Zeppelin songs?

Fuck, I didn't mean to do that.

And I do have an explanation for my lack of diversity.

A) I blame Spotify for spoiling me so I didn't have to buy music.

B)I made this on a computer that didn't have all my files (including all my Who tracks :( ). So this was as good as it was gonna get.

Any way I'll probably do mine today. Pretty sure it's Laddie's.

Alrighty let's get this over with...

"Black Sheep" - The Clash at Demonhead (Metric)

I saw Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I thought was fairly good. The music was not exactly my speed but I liked a few tracks(the ones that Beck did were pretty good). I guess I didn't remember this one. It's decent I guess. Catchy in a weird alt/indie kinda way. I probably wouldn't have listened to it if it wasn't in this mix.

"Colours" - Grouplove

Well, it's not terrible. Another indie-ish song with what seems to be a stuttering vocalist at first. Acoustic guitar and a catchy chorus. No clue what it's about. A bit higher than meh.

"Dancing Choose(Prefuse 73 Remix)" - TV on the Radio

Other than "Wolf Like Me", which I actually like quite a bit, I've never listened to anything else by TV on the Radio. This song is apparently a remix and has lots of electronica elements incorporated. That is ultimately the song's downfall. It probably would've been okay on its own, but at the end there is this wankery of electronic repeats and sounds. And I think it sounds pretty terrible. So up until the end it's pretty good.

"Herculean" - The Good, The Bad, & The Queen

Another indie/alt song. This one differentiates itself by being a little spacey with reverb, delay, and some electronic beeps. But other than that it's still piano, acoustic and clean electric guitars, and those kind of vocals you can really only describe as "indie" vocals. So, yeah. I know I'm in no place to call someone out for having no variety, but I'd like a change in pace.

"My World Down" - A Dying Breed

Hey, distortion on the guitar. I think the song sensed I was getting a little bored. Anyway, I actually thought the song was pretty good. It has some nice vocals, sounding a bit Britpop-y and some cool hooks in the chorus and verses. Also some nice guitar work. It's pr-Wait a minute.

>J-Rock

Well fuck, I guess I have to hate it now. Man, I liked that one...

"New Genious(Brother)" - Gorillaz

When did this mix suddenly start to get a bit better? Never heard this song before, but it's pretty chill. Iunno there's not much to say about it other than it's good.

"No Way" - The Naked and Famous

So we're back in indie land. This time, there's female vocalist. Female singers don't really do it for me. I have no clue to be honest. The song? Well, it's kinda boring and a little too long. Moving on...

"Renegade" - The Qemists

So now we leave the familiar, if dull, world of indie music to start exploring the uncomfortable and unfamiliar territory of electronic music. Eh, it just doesn't illicit any emotional response. The vocals are auto-tuned, which I'm not really a fan of. It's full of beats and electronic effects. It's just kinda meh.

"Southern Weather" - The Almost

Generic alternative/emo. Oh fucking joy. Please sir, can I have some more sir? Next...

"Switzerland" - Bison

A mandolin? Bagpipes? Chimes? Violin? Acoustic guitar? "Eccentric" Vocals? Is that a folk-y song I hear? It's all right. Certainly better than what came before it. Overstays its welcome a bit by lasting 5 minutes and 37 seconds.

"A Fond Farewell" - Elliott Smith

I was a little tough on the indie music in here, but I'm inclined to be charitable to this song because I like Elliott Smith. It still doesn't change the fact that it's still acoustic and clean electric guitars with "indie" vocals. Better but still not by much.

"A Lesson Never Learned(Celldweller Remix)" - Asking Alexandria

A dubstep remix of a metalcore song.

I
Hate
This
Fucking
Shit

It's terrible and should not exist. The fact that it does exist destroys a bit of the faith I had for humanity. This is not that I /dislike/ the song. I actively hate it.

"Beautiful World (Plantib Acoustica Mix)" - Utada Hikaru

Hey I think I have a pic for this around here somewhere...

Ah, found it.

So yeah, I don't like j-pop. There's this certain quality that the genre seems to have that I can't stand. I'm able to ignore it and not complain about it if it's on a party or something, but I still won't like it.

Overall, I would rate this mix an outstanding "Meh". I went into this with no expectations, but I didn't come out a changed man or anything. There were a few songs I enjoy, but the fact that there was an Asking Alexandria dubstep remix kinda ruined it.

Also, I believe this is LAD's.
