It still doesn't change the fact that it's still acoustic and clean electric guitars with "indie" vocals. Better but still not by much.
>complains about clean guitars and "indie" vocals
>includes Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Blind Melon in mix

Fuck you.

There is a pretty big difference between the "cleaner" indie that failure is talking about (just listen to Grouplove or any band that also tends to be placed into the "indie pop" genre) and the "indie" bands that tend to be rawer and use more distortion and shit in their music (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, though the song he gave you isn't distorted but is certainly rawer than the likes of Grouplove).

And considering failure's taste in music, I'd assume this is a very significant difference to him.

Not that I have anything against the cleaner indie bands (I like both kinds), but there's a pretty big difference there.

"Battle With Red" by War Inside
It's a rock cover of the battle song from the original Pokemon games. It's pretty freakin' awesome, if slightly repetitive; I especially enjoy the piano in the background the entire time.

"The Cage" by Sonata Arctica
Ohemgeeepicintrosolo! Yeah, this song is amazing. I don't particularly care for the lead singer's voice (especially his falsetto), but all the instruments are amazing, and the background singers do a good job of highlighting the good qualities of the lead singer's voice.

"Eyes of a Stranger" by Queensrh˙che
I don't particularly enjoy any part of this song, but I suppose this could be an example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. If I listened to any track seperately, I'd tell you that the song it belongs to is probably very boring, but the song as a whole is not that bad.

"3" by Porcupine Tree
Yeahhh... no. This song is really not my cup of tea. The instruments try to sound distant and dissonant, but really just come off as half-assed and boring. Plus, the singer looks like he imagined a person who was every grunge singer ever, combined, and is doing a bat imitation of that person. What I'm trying to say here, is that I find the song boring, extremely repetitive, and complete with a singer of no exceptional impression.

"The Grand Conjuration" by Opeth
I really, like REALLY love the first first half of this song. A steady, powerful drumbeat accompanies droning chords and a sexy bassline with an awesome vocalist. The second half isn't bad either, but after the first half, I expected more.

"Ghost Love Score" by Nightwish
This song is the opposite of the previous in that the first, about 5 minutes, is good, but the second part is AMAZING. Especially when the choir really gets set in. I also love the instrumentation of this song, and of course her voice is awesome. I take back what I said, this song is on another level.

"She-Wolf" by Megadeth
I have a feeling that I've heard this song before, but I don't know where. Any way, this song is what you would expect from Megadeth, and that is a good thing. Megadeth has a good formula, no need to change it.

"Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword- Gerudo Valley" by
It's pretty good. I like the orchestral video game music even more than the rock video game music, although I don't particularly care for this song itself.

"The World is Mine" by Hatsune Miku
>mfw J-Funk... Yeah, the genre is listed as J-Pop, but this sounds like a funk song. Regardless, I want to hate this song for what it is, but I can't, because it's not that bad. I like the music (I'm a funk fan), and the vocals are catchy, and I like this song in spite of myself. You win this time, Japan... this time.

"Gambler's Blues" by Glyder
I think this song is pretty cool. It actually sounds a bit like southern hard rock, which is a genre of music that I really like. The lyrics sound like something you would here from a cowboy song, which lends to the southern hard rock designation. I approve of this song.

"Heavyweight Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic vs. Infected Mushroom
...the fuck is this shit? No, no, no, no, no. I don't understand; the mix was going so well, and then... this? This mashup ruined a perfectly good Funkadelic song, and it doesn't even sound great as a mashup; it just sounds like one really long instrumental with some crazy instrumentation that doesn't always even fit. Sometimes, it just sounds like an orgy of unpleasant noise. No.

"Sacrificed Sons" by Dream Theater
Ahh, Dream Theater; that's better. I don't particularly care for Dream Theater, but I like some of their songs, this one among them. I especially like the piano movement in the beginning of the song. It introduces the song well, and really accompanies his voice in a pleasant way. The rest of the instruments are wonderful as well, and the lead vocal, when the background vocals come in, makes a beautiful and wonderfully harmonized sound that I really enjoy. If there were one part of this song I didn't like, it's the length. Fortunately, the music changes from fast to slow, and from beautiful to heavy, and what have you, multiple times to keep you, the listener, on your toes throughout the song. If you enjoy epic solos, epic vocals, epic background music, or just epicness, this is a good song for you.

"Welcome Home" by Coheed and Cambria
Wow, I am almost sick of this song. I have heard this song many, many times in the past year, not always of my own will. Objectively, the song is still impressive in its dynamics, harmonies, and its lyrics and instrumentation. It's a good song, if one I'm a bit tired of.

So, I wholly enjoyed the majority of this mixtape, if there were a few mucky spots. The best two songs were "Ghost Love Score" and "Sacrificed Sons", but I'm not sure which I like better. My least favorite were "3" and "Heavyweight Maggot Brain", but "HMB" was worse... far worse.

Overall Score: 9/10

Kinda funny, I got yours last year. I can understand why you don't enjoy .3 and HMB, I personally love them. Didn't realise Welcome Home was a big song, I'm the only person who knows it over here xP

Glyder are an Irish band that opened for Metallica in '09 and were pretty amazing, I recommend checking out the whole album even though Gambler's Blues is the highlight.

1. 311 - "Creatures (For a While)"
This song's pretty good. Not great. The instrumentation's pretty good, but the singer is just pretty bleh.

2. Gov't Mule - "Horseflies"
This song starts out with some pretty groovy awesomeness. Halfway through the song and 2 minutes of the same groove the whole time, I was starting to get sick of it. Then they started throwing some pretty cool stuff in and would change it up. It's a good song. *thumbs up*

3. Eagles - "Lyin' Eyes"
I'm already familiar with this song, and it's not really one of my favorite Eagles songs, but it's not bad. Like many of their songs, I really like the verses and most of the song, but the chorus turns me off. I also feel like this song is a bit longer than it needs to be. It has "3-4 minute single" written all over it, but it stretches out to 6 and a half minutes for really no reason.

4. Collective Soul - "Shine"
I love this song.

5. Toby Keith - "Trailerhood"
I don't listen to much country, but like the country I've heard, I like it. I don't like the lyrics, but the feeling the song gives off is nice enough.

6. The Strokes - "Barely Legal"
Another song I know, and another song I really like. One of my favorites from this album.

7. Chuck Berry - "Roll Over Beethoven"
I know this one, too. A cool little song, but I've never loved it all that much. I do love the guitar playing, though.

8. Franz Ferdinand - "Auf Achse"
I listened to this album a few months ago because I really like "Take Me Out". It's one of those songs that's incredibly catchy and just a joy to listen to. Unfortunately, I didn't like anything else from the album very much. However, listening to this song again, I don't know why I didn't like it. It's pretty damn catchy and I'm sitting here movin' my feet to the music so it's doing something right. I'm really enjoying this. Maybe I should give the album another chance. Very awesome song.

9. George Thorogood - "I Drink Alone"
George Thorogood actually grew up right down the street from where I live. He went to the high school behind my house. All that fun stuff. So I get to hear George Thorogood songs ALL THE TIME ON THE RADIO. This is one of them. I've never been a big fan of George. At least it's not "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer". No song in the Wilmington area has been played as much as that song has.

10. Big & Rich - "Real World"
"I don't listen to much country, but like the country I've heard, I like it. I don't like the lyrics, but the feeling the song gives off is nice enough." The song's better than the Toby Keith song, though. Just kind of unremarkable. The chorus is pretty awesome, though. Oh wait, the second half just started. Lol okay the song got pretty awesome.

11. Akon - "Gangsta Bop"
I'd have preferred an unedited version of this song, because I hate random pauses in music. Overall it's not bad. I like the way the song flows together. The lyrics are kinda eh, but I've heard worse.

12. Fleetwood Mac - "Gold Dust Woman"
Rumours is one of my favorite albums, so I've heard this song like a million times. Pretty awesome song on a damned good album. I think it's pretty underrated among Fleetwood Mac songs.

13. Derek & the Dominos - "Layla"
LAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Not really much to say other then "fuck yeah" and it has the best guitar riffs OF ALL TIME.

14. Zac Brown Band - "Who Knows"
This song is fucking awesome. When I saw a 10 minute country song in the list, I was hesitant. Man, it was great. Kept me hooked the whole 10 minutes, and I don't think many 10 minute songs can say that for me. Of the songs I didn't know/wasn't familiar with, this is by far the best so far.

15. Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Run Through the Jungle"
I am also familiar with this song. Pretty cool song. One of CCR's better songs, in my opinion.

16. Eurythmics - "The King and Queen of America"
Pretty cool. Much better than I was expecting, to be honest.

17. B.B. King; Brad Paisley - "Let the Good Times Roll"
Pretty damn cool song. Great guitar playing. Cool collaboration.

18. Elvis Presley - "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy"
I don't know what to say about this one. The singing saves this song from being a pretty mediocre song.

19. Queen - "The Show Must Go On"
I'm really not a fan of Queen after 1975 with a few exceptions. This song is one of the few. Just a great song. It's not ridiculously excessive like a lot of Queen's songs after that period. One of Queen's better songs, regardless of time period. The outro sucks cock, though.

20. Johnny Cash - "The Man Comes Around" [Early Take]
I think I prefer this song to any older Johnny Cash songs I've heard. The singing is great and the song just does everything right.

My guess is that this is freshey's tape. Overall it was pretty awesome. There was a lot of country, older rock and roll, and classic rock, but they were all good songs. The songs that broke this pattern were mostly awesome, too. I'll give this list a 9/10.

The Decemberists "The Island: Come and See/The Landlord's Daughter/You'll Not Feel the Drowning"
This mix is off to a good start. The song reminds a lot of The Shins and a bit of REM in there. As you can see, it's divided into three parts with Come and See covering half of the song. The Landlord's Daughter is heavier and prog rock-based. I'd say it's a good song. Maybe I'll listen to some more when I feel like it.

Explosions in the Sky "Trembling Hands"
I believe this is the second song I've heard from them, the first being "Your Hand in Mine", but compared to this, this one is more fast-paced. The drumming here is intense, I have to say.

PJ Harvey "The Words That Maketh Murder"
I've been meaning to listen to her new album but I always seem to forget. The vocals are pretty much the focal point on this song. Decent song, I guess.

Björk "It's Oh So Quiet"
This is the most "wut" song of the entire mix. There's the constant "shush" and the screaming that I just find intolerable. I would've hated it but the jazz outbursts really makes up for it.

Mute Math "All Or Nothing"
Another band I've been meaning to listen to. All I gotta say is that I love this song.

London Philharmonic Orchestra and Andrew Skeet "Final Fantasy VIII: Liberi Fatali"
Classical music. Something I'd least expect from you guys unless it has some metal in it. I never really played any FF games before X since it was that time that I first discovered the RPG genre. Sounds kinda tense almost like it came from a boss battle.

Regina Spektor "Machine"
I don't really know what to say about this song. It's not that I hate it but I also don't like it. It's just "meh" to me.

Tegan and Sara "Back In Your Head"
Needless to say, I <3 THIS SONG & TEGAN AND SARA TOO!!!

The Dillinger Escape Plan "Widower"
Eh, not much of a mathcore/avant-garde metal fan but I kinda like this song.

The Postal Service "We Will Become Silhouettes"
This is a chill song and I love it.

Shoji Meguro "Chopin - 'Revolutionary Etude'"
Of course, it's a great song. Something I can expect from Shoji Meguro.

Immortal Technique feat. Jean Grae "You Never Know"
The first hip hop song in the mix. I have a niche for these hip-hop/R&B kind of songs and I like it.

Dresden Dolls "Girl Anachronism"
I don't know what you call this song. It's like a dark cabaret mixed with garage rock and the guy kinda sounds like Jack White. At any rate, I like this song.

Eyedea "Bottle Dreams"
Another hip hop song. The instrumentation mixed with the flow of the rhymes kinda relaxes me and when I feel relaxed, I instantly like the song.

Nightwish "Slow, Love, Slow"
I did not expect this kind of song from Nightwish (or probably I haven't heard enough songs from them). The first half of the song is mostly jazz but the other is where it builds and becomes a bit more metal and slows down and ends. This piques my interest and makes me want to listen to a bit more from them.

Rilo Kiley "The Absence of God"
And we end the mix with a folk song. Unlike the other folk songs in the mix, this ones more happy and upbeat. Somewhere inside me has just entered a state of bliss thanks to this.

This is obviously Ro's mixtape. Imma give this mixtape 9/10. I love the content of the mix but I think that The Dillinger Escape Plan is a bit of place (but that's not the reason why I'm not giving this a 10).
