Just to let you know that there's a short 4-episode thing called Nekomonogatari that you should watch before Monogatari 2nd Season. It's a prequel to Bakemonogatari about the first encounter with "Black Hanekawa" that's referenced throughout Bakemonogatari.

There's also a 2-episode OVA for The World God Only Knows that acts as a lead-in to the third season that's important plot-wise.

And yeah I don't know anything about Silver Spoon either lol. All I know is that it's from the same author that wrote Fullmetal Alchemist, so I figured "why not?"

Oh sweet, I'll definitely check out Nekomonogatari.

I've already watched the Tenri Arc OVAs. I just forgot to mention them... because I forgot they happened until the flashbacks in the first episode of the third season. Regardless, I wouldn't be lost since TWGOK is another manga I keep up with constantly.

I remember a friend of mine telling me that the author of FMA moved on to a story about farming. Now I have my hopes up and things have come full circle. I'm excited.

I don't know what this is, but it seems like it has something to do with Vocaloids, and I know there are a handful of people here that care about them so yeah.

It's being made by Shaft with Shinbou directing so I will definitely be watching.

Finished Samurai Champloo. Brings me down to one anime on my Netflix queue because lolnetflix. I guess after that, I'll begin the much longer process of watching the live action shows. (and sprinkle in anime here and there)

I tend not to like comedy, as I've probably said before. I know this is technically a drama, but it has a lot of comedy. The comedic parts of the show were certainly funny, but as someone who tends to value character/plot development over the lulz in his shows, I feel the show could have been so much more if it were wholly focused on telling the story. I'd rather have two more story/character episodes than a zombie episode and a baseball episode, amongst others, but that's just me.

The story is pretty good, but it seems as if when plot development was needed, the main characters were simply fed the clue they needed to continue their search. I can't rag on this *too* much because this isn't a show about piecing together a mystery or some shit, but it's not really believable. I like the characters well enough, though I feel more character development would have been nice. Of course, I always feel "MORE DEVELOPMENT" is awesome. What they got was decent, however.

It obviously doesn't look as good as something like Fate/Zero or whatever, but the artstyle is awesome. The characters looked kind of meh to me at times, but everything else looked wonderful. The soundtrack is great; I'd hope there's an OST floating around on the tubes or something. Pretty much everything I heard in the show is sweet.

I guess on the whole, I liked it, but I just feel it could have been a lot better. If I had to rate it on Netflix, I'd rate it in the neighborhood of 3.5 stars, but Netflix doesn't allow that. (so I guess I'd round up to 4)

I suppose I'm looking for post-Netflix anime to watch. Lightning will recommend the -gatari shows and LotGH, both of which I'll watch at some point. Re-watching Cowboy Bebop in order is on my list of priorities. I should probably watch the Evangelion movies sometime after 3.33 comes out in English. But beyond that, any anime I must watch?

I do not mind downloading an anime if it's good enough, so feel free to recommend shit that isn't on the streaming services.

I might have a few I'd recommend (beyond the two you already mentioned)...

The Tatami Galaxy - A really good coming-of-age story that personally resonated with me a lot. It's told in a way that's not very straightforward but manages to tie things together very very well. Pretty sure I watched this on Hulu.

Natsume's Book of Friends - This is one of my favorite series, and all four seasons are absolutely fantastic. It's a very relaxed supernatural/slice-of-life series about a high school boy (Natsume) who can see "youkai" (pretty much monsters/spirits). It's very touching and I got a bad case of feels a few times during this. I loved the background music, too. All four seasons are on Crunchyroll.

Haibane Renmei - This is a pretty dark fantasy/slice-of-life series that has a lot of symbolism. I know you aren't big on symbolism, and I'm not either when it's stupidly obscure, but this is one of the times where I thought it really added a lot to the story. It's also pretty emotional and the main character is one of my favorite characters. I think I watched this on Hulu.

Steins;Gate - A very good sci-fi thriller with a great cast. It's about a "mad scientist" and his group of friends that manage to create a way to send text messages into the past. Shit happens. I've never met anyone who hasn't liked this show. It's on Hulu, I think, but I'm not sure.

Kino's Journey - This is a very episodic anime about a girl and her motorcycle-robot-thing (Hermes) traveling around and looking at various cultures. I couldn't recommend this one enough and I think you'd be a fan of the main character for some reason (Kino). The cultures looked at tend to lean on the disturbing side. I don't think this one has a stream.

Mawaru Penguindrum - This is another thriller, but other than that it's really hard to place. It's got a lot of comedy, drama, psychological aspects, romance, and everything under the sun. It's from the creator of Revolutionary Girl Utena, another very good show, but this one is a bit less drowned in symbolism and is easier to understand (and I liked it better). Not sure this one has a stream, either, though I think it's been licensed since the time I watched it.

There are a lot of other shows that I could recommend, but I'll stop there. These are all amazing shows, in my opinion. They all tend to the more serious side, though (with Mawaru Penguindrum kind of sort of being an exception but not really... like I said it's a show that's really hard to place). Humanity Has Declined in a comedy that I think you might actually like if only for the main character and the type of comedy used (it's all very sarcastic and satirical). That's on Crunchyroll if you're interested.

Here's a 2014 Winter anime chart!

Definitely watching:
Nisekoi
Sailor Moon
Pupa
Space Dandy
Chuunibyou 2
Silver Spoon 2

Possibly going to watch (idk much about them, but they mite b cool):
Sonico - this looks like it's probably going to be terrible, but White Fox has an incredible track record as an anime studio
Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha - premise sounds meh, but I love the art style shown
Mahou Sensou - premise sounds so-so, but Madhouse is usually a really good studio, so I'm open to it
Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta - I really like the premise and the picture shown, so there's a decent chance I'll watch this
Nobunagun - premise sounds fun and I really like the art shown
Nobunaga the Fool - mite b cool, but the director has a questionable track record at best

Continuing:
Golden Time
Kill la Kill
Samurai Flamenco

I'm not too familiar with all the studios and so on but Studio DEEN Hetalia and the newer Higurashi stuff so I'll probably watch Pupa even IF newer Higurashi was terrible. Mahou Sensou, Z/X Ignition, Nobunaga, and Nobunagan all sound like they could be appalling but still have promise so I'll check them out too.

I recently finished Steins;Gate and Angel Beats so I might as well talk about them.

Steins;Gate: It suffers from a painfully slow start but when it gets going, boy is it good. All the characters are strong, likeable individuals and the plot takes you on the most unexpected roller coaster you can imagine. The show doesn't waste any time explaining how time travel works and that's greatly appreciated. Emotional highs and lows along with a breathtaking climax make this a 10/10 series. It's hard to say that considering that the first four or five episodes are very slow to get into but it is definitely worth the investment.

Some Spoiler Thoughts

Angel Beats: When I first started watching this, I was really excited for where it was going to go. The entire concept is hella cool and the main characters were strong enough to keep me very interested. That's why I was very disappointed when the series glossed over interesting, unexplained details and had random filler/drawn out episodes towards the end. It's very obviously rushed and it just left me annoyed considering how much potential its first two episodes shown. I wish the final few episodes spent more time explaining and less time devoting entire episodes to things that didn't really need entire episodes.

Some Spoiler Thoughts

...*bump*

Activated the 14 day free trial on Crunchyroll mostly because I'm an impatient fuck and want to finish Kill la Kill this Thursday instead of waiting another two Thursdays.

But after, you know, actually trying it out and seeing it's only $7 a month? I'm probably going to keep it. I'll use it more than Netflix and 480p/no ads is VERY nice. I tried 720p but my tubes couldn't keep up with it for long, and LOL 1080p. Still, 480p beats the shit out of watching anything in SD and it doesn't tax my tubes too much. Plus, seeing "exclusive stream for Gileh" for something free users can't see yet gives me a nice fuzzy feeling.

Anyway, enough about the awesomeness of Crunchyroll, time for some KLK shit.

As you might know, I'm not a fan of the type of fanservice that has half/fully naked woman parading around for no good reason. KLK, of course, has this in abundance. Even after 23 episodes, I'm still not keen on it, but I barely even notice it anymore. Kind of hard to give a damn about the transformation sequences after seeing Ryuko rip off Junketsu the way she did. In any case, if this show had nothing else to offer, I'd have dropped it pretty quickly. I ain't bout dem anime dedicated to fanservice.

As far as the plot goes, I feel it's like Gurren Lagann in many ways, which makes sense and all, considering a lot of the same people worked on it. I feel this show takes itself a bit more seriously than Gurren Lagann ever did, but at least it has Mako for comedy relief. She generally pulls this off with aplomb because she's one of the most oblivious characters I've seen in some time. The plot's nothing groundbreaking or anything, but it's executed well.

I wish more fights didn't end with some kind of asspull, but I suppose they have to in order to end them *sometime* in a 24 episode series.

I like pretty much all of the characters. Satsuki becomes a much better character as the show wears on. But other than her, I liked pretty much everyone when they were first introduced. Actually, the main villain bores me to tears; I feel like I've heard all this shit before from too many other villains to list. Most everyone else kicks ass doe.

The artstyle reminds me of older, hand-drawn anime. I like my Fate/Zero-esque animation and all, which is technically and artistically impressive, but there's always a place for a good hand-drawn style. The music is probably my favorite part of the show, and whenever I hear "DON'T LOSE YOUR WAAAAAAAY" I can't help but feel "awwwwwww yeeeeeeah shit's about to get real".

Basically the tl;dr is this show kicks ass.

And now we all wait for the Gainax Ending tomorrow to either ruin the entire show or put it on God status.
