I loathed Sword Art Online, and could not make it past episode 4. The first episode was good, but after that it devolved into a girl-of-the-day show starring the most unbearable Gary Stu of the type I've only ever seen in fan-fiction before. I was interested in the plot that the first episode set up, and wanted to see more of that struggle, but the show throws that out entirely in favor of these girls that seem to be obligated to fall for the protagonist every time. It had absolutely terrible pacing, too, with months passing between each episode, leaving me with no sense as to what was ever going on. And I hear that the show gets worse later on, which amazes me, since it's already pretty bad to begin with. I really wanted to like it, with all the love there is for it on the Internet, but I just couldn't. |

The world-building in the first several episodes is actually pretty good and by far the best part of the show, in my opinion. When it finally gets back to the main plot, it progresses way too quickly and I felt disappointed. |

I felt pretty confused to hell with all the time skips during the world building bit, but once Kirito and Asuna actually started interacting far more it really picked up for me. Probably one of my favorite romance arcs I've seen, but then again, I'm used to harem anime where EXACTLY ZERO FUCKING PROGRESS IS MADE AND ANY THAT IS MADE IS NEGATED BY THE END OF THE EPISODE WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF |

Finished up SAO. I've concluded you all, and, by extension, the entire internet, blew how bad the second half is waaaaaaaaaaaay out proportion. Yeah, it's not as good as the first arc. Definitely not anywhere near as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I went into it thinking it was absolutely horrible. I merely found it meh. |

K, so Shinji is less of a pussy now, and I get mad when people (like Asuka) blame every little thing on him. But yeah, Shinji's a former pussy, Misato's a fun drunk, Asuka's a bitch, Rei da best, and Ritsuko's alright, I guess? As of episode 10 |

So after finally finishing up NGE, I have concluded that it is, in fact, a good series. Overhyped, yes, but good. It is still a well-done deconstruction of the mech genre that has a poignant and interesting psychological aspect. I liked the pacing as well. Well, except for Kaworu, but he was apparently handled better in the manga. But I never felt rushed at any point in watching it. However, almost none of the characters are likable due to their respective personal issues and it is a very, very depressing endeavor to watch through this show. It can also be an angering endeavor. The last 2 episodes are also chock-full of psychoanalytical Freudian shit, and they were sort of a weird way to end the series off. This is why I liked End of Evangelion that much more. It isn't just sitting there wishing you were watching something else because it's above your head. The pretentious parts only came at the end, and the rest was fantastically Evangelion-y. It drops you right into the action and takes off from there before kind of dropping off again at the end. Everything done in the movie is great, especially the parts with Rei (ofc). Probably the greatest series-based anime movie I've seen. So yes, the series is worth a watch but perhaps not as great as some make it out to be. I might watch the series again someday, just to see any little tidbits I might have missed. I'll wait a little to watch the rebuilds, because I'm burnt out on Evangelion right now. I've transitioned smoothly to watching Nichijou, which is the funniest anime I have seen thus far. I needed something to get my mind off of messed-up stuff, and this is doing the trick. New season lookin' dope. http://anichart.net/summer Show's that I'll be watching... Continuing: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders: This has been a lot better than the first two stories in the series. I really do recommend this to everyone who enjoys some mindless awesomeness that doesn't try to take itself seriously. It's got some of the more memorable characters I've seen and some of the best action. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: This show isn't particularly good. It's got its moments, but yeah I wouldn't really blindly recommend it. I was expecting an action show and this isn't an action show, so I guess I'm still just trying to get a feel for what it is. I'll continue it since I don't think it's bad, but yeah not something I'd recommend for people looking for something to watch in the new season. Definitely Starting: Akame ga Kill!: Probably this season's most hyped show in the community. I basically hear that this should be this year's Attack on Titan, so yeah. White Fox has a great track record as a studio, so that's the main reason I'll be watching this in addition to the great response the source material usually gets. Admittedly, the premise and art I've seen for it don't excite me much, but I'm expecting a good fantasy/action show. Aldnoah.Zero: Urobutcher and the director of Fate/Zero are teaming up again. Urobutcher's been disappointing me since Fate/Zero in all honesty, but his good shows are so damn good that I'll continue watching what he puts out. This time with MECHS. Sailor Moon Crystal: I never watched the original, but I was always kind of interested if only because it's one of the most popular series in a medium I'm greatly interested in. The new designs look cool, and hopefully this one will be more faithful to the manga and have less filler. It's airing every other week or so, which may make following it kind of annoying, but whatever. Hanamonogatari: This isn't really a new TV show. It's just 5 episodes that will all be released in August on the same day. Still, it's my favorite series ever and this arc is focusing on Kanbaru, who was definitely missed in the Second Season. Get hyped oh wait none of you have watched this year so fuck you guys. Tokyo ESP: The premise has flying penguins and fish in it which is about good enough for me. I'm not really sure what to expect here. If it doesn't take itself seriously (which it doesn't sound like it will), I think this has a lot of potential to be one of the more fun shows this season. Also the main protagonist's character design is wonderful. Terror of Resonance: watanabe's back time2ball Maybe Watching: (not posting much for these cuz I don't know much about a lot of them) Tokyo Ghoul: The manga's got a good reputation and I haven't watched a good horror/thriller anime in a while. Sword Art Online II: AFO was a fucking dumpster fire but I hear this arc is one of the better ones, so I may watch. I'll be reading to drop it if it sucks, though. Rail Wars:
Hanayamata: One of the few shows this season where the art really caught my eye. The premise doesn't sound particularly exciting, but this is coming from Madhouse and has the same director as No Game, No Life from this season (which is a very good time) who has also done work on great shows like Nana and Chihayafuru. I'll probably give it a shot. Glasslip: P.A. Works doing another show that looks very P.A. Worksy, which is kind of disappointing since their premises usually aren't very exciting. Still, their shows usually end up being pretty damn solid despite the pretty dull premises and they may be the best animators in the business. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei: This is going to suck, but I have a problem and must watch it to hold myself over for Fate/stay night. I managed to sit through the first season and the ending of that one actually had some pretty good moments. Hopefully this has more. Barakamon: Looks like it has potential to be a pretty nice slice-of-life comedy, which I don't have much of on my list this season. The director has been involved with some good shows, but overall I don't really know much about this show or the studio at all. This is one of the bigger question marks for me. I'll see how the reception is. |

Continuing: One Piece: Should speak for itself at this point. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: I have a stark hate/meh relationship with this show, but I am a masochist and a completionist so my moral codes require me to finish this show. I just really, REALLY hope it gets better in the later arcs so I feel more compelled to watch it in general. Starting: Akame ga Kill!: The premise is kind of basic but it looks just dark enough (judging from the poster) to be gripping enough to hold my attention. The hype MIGHT kill it a little bit but I don't really care too much. High hopes for this one already. Tokyo ESP: Dat first ep synopsis tho. I don't really know much about this series, but that synopsis along with all of the genre tags that have been added on this show interest me. I'm the most hype for this show this season, actually. Has great potential to be a nice, entertaining little show. Tokyo Ghoul: I haven't watched a darker show about monsters in a while, and this one looks like it'll do the trick if handled correctly. Even if it's not, I'm too much of a sap not to watch this anyway. Terror Of Resonance: Just interesting from the premise itself, and Watanabe ya'll so why not watch this? Cencoroll 2: It isn't a series, but it's a short film that I've been looking forward to since the first one aired a while ago. I recommend watching the first one and then this one during this season, because the first one is a little-known but fresh and entertaining little film. Might Watch: Aldnoah.Zero: I don't really know much about this, but Outlaw and Lightning seem pretty hype for it. I might get their opinion on it when it airs before giving it a shot myself. Glasslip: I might be itching for a slice of life type show at some point, and this one will fill the gap. Sort of a fresh premise about being a glass artisan too, which pulls me in a bit. I'll see how I feel when the season starts. Hanamonogatari: This is based on when I get through the rest of the -gataris, if that ever even happens. P4G the Animation: Having seen the first animated series and the game, I already know all that happens which turns me off a bit out of the gate. But I love Marie and it might be worth a second shot. I don't expect a slew of new content though. Might be good for those who haven't watched P4A yet and want the "full" experience. RAIL WARS!: This has the potential to be a fresh and entertaining series, but it has just as much potential to be a total train wreck (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LAME JOKE). Sailor Moon Crystal: I REALLLLLLY don't want to, but I might guilt myself into it at some point. I never saw the original but it never held much of my attention at all. Might watch it, might not. I'm pretty on the fence about this one. But yeah overall this season seems pretty darn good and I'm excited for when it starts. Edited by Pwner, Jun 22 2014, 11:44 PM.

So, Aldnoah.Zero. Urobutcher gon Urobutcher, no? Dem spoilers I'm still stoked for the whole series, that said. There seems to be a lot of intrigue and some pretty awesome mech designs. Edited by Outlaw454, Jul 6 2014, 11:03 AM.

Just finished Evangelion. To say it wasn't what I expected is an understatement. I expected a series about mechs with overly emotional teenage protagonists and while I did get that, uh, the scope was a little bit bigger. I preferred End of Evangelion to the proper ending I think.
