Aldnoah.Zero stuffs

i've caught up on 8 anime this season what am i doing with my life

P4GA: Yeah I'm only watching this because it's P4 stuff. I don't know how I feel about Marie. There are times where she can act tsundere, which is the last thing Japanese media needs, but it's been happening less in recent episodes. She does seem to fit in well with the rest of the playable cast, which is a plus. The extra content is pretty funny, too. I can't imagine this going on for much longer than 2-3 more weeks because P4G didn't add that much.

Easily the worst anime I'll watch this season. It's alright in the sense that its existence saves me $300 (not that I was buying P4G anyway, but y'know), but other than that it'd be hard to recommend to anyone but hardcore P4 fans.

Barakamon: It seems like a pretty chill anime. I obviously don't know how small-town life in Japan goes, but there have been plenty of times where I think, "yeah, I can relate to this". I think it's mostly in that the people in this anime help each other out unconditionally.

It's also funnier than I'd have expected. It's not the same type of humor as some of the other shows this season, but it's pretty funny in its own right. I think a large part of this is because the main character is wound so tightly that anything out of the ordinary seems to affect him.

Sailor Moon Crystal: I never watched this when I was younger, probably because "LOL ITS 4 TEH GURLZ IM A MANLY MAN!!1" What can I say, we were all asshole teenagers at one point. And now I feel fucking old.

The best parts to me would be the artstyle, music, and to a lesser extent the humor. I expect the fights to improve; these early episodes seem to be more about establishing who the Sailor Guardians are than about having awesome fights. I don't expect much out of this plot or character-wise, but even so it's watchable enough. I'll probably try and stick with it.

Posted this on another board and figured I'd post it here, too, since it covers a few shows a few of us are watching.

Sabagebu is losing steam for me. I thought the first 3-4 episodes were hilarious, but that kind of humor got boring pretty fast I think. I don't really look forward to watching it anymore, to be honest. It still has its moments but I'm just not feeling it much anymore.

Akame ga Kill is getting better but it's still not that great imo. I'm really hoping for some better villains. Way too many of these people are just psychotic killers who enjoy seeing people suffer. That's probably my least favorite kind of bad guy. This has been a problem since episode 1.

It's an unfortunate truth, but it's become pretty clear that Rail Wars is bad. That's basically all I have to add there.

Hanayamata is also not very good. The more emotional parts are way too melodramatic and the comedic parts are almost always not funny. I like the art direction, and I liked the premise, but they haven't gone the way I would have hoped. This is just focusing way more on the girls and their problems, which isn't inherently bad obviously, but the writing's not very good to make this work and the problems aren't interesting to begin with. I would have preferred a show that actually focused more on their group succeeding and an actual emphasis on the yosakoi outside of "omg it's so purdy" (so more along the lines of Chihayafuru and less along the lines of your typical "cute girls do stupid shit" anime).

I want to really like Barakamon, and I am liking it, but I'm definitely not seeing as much in it as others are. I enjoy it, and I think it can be funny, but the touching moments just aren't all that touching for me, which I think this show really needs to push it into that "great" tier. I love the premise and the idea behind it, but I just think the execution is kind of so-so. It definitely could've been a lot worse, but I also think it can be a lot better. It's pretty entrenched in that 7/10 range for me.

Terror in Resonance and Nozaki-kun are definitely the highlights of the season for me. Nozaki-kun is just so consistently funny and all of the characters are just so good (for comedic purposes, just to specify). Aldnoah.Zero is also still enjoyable, though it's feeling pretty unspectacular right now and hasn't really capitalized on the engaging start it had for me. It's still got potential to end well, though, as it sets up for its second cour. JoJo's is still cool, too, of course.

Just realized how negative this post is, but yeah this season started out awesome but it's definitely been dropping a bit for me.

/nods

I mean, I'm liking what I'm watching, but I'd be very hard-pressed to give any of it above a 7/10 right now. There's nothing that gripped me like Kill la Kill, Madoka Magica, or really anything I've loved. I don't feel like I have to drop everything and watch an episode of any of these right away like I did with shows like those once I got into them.

I think Sabagebu's problem is that it's gotten too srs. Episode 7 (I haven't seen 8 yet, probably won't watch it tonight) was pretty serious by this show's standards, which made it draaaaag. I'm not watching a show about a zany survival club to learn shit about Japan. Less of whatever that shit was, more action sequences and more humor.

I can definitely relate to parts of Barakamon. I agree that the touching parts aren't very touching, and I think that's because the characters are pretty meh. There's nobody I really care about. When the best character is one of the (many) comic relief characters, you have some really meh characters. This show has and will probably have fuck all for an overarching plot, so it needs good characterization, and so far it hasn't really had that. Its humor is about all it has going for it, so good thing it's funny.

Aldnoah.Zero's my favorite of what I'm watching if only because the production values are really high and nothing else has really stood out. Maybe Terror in Resonance once the shit starts to hit the fan, which I think it will in a week or two. Anyway... You know the animation and music kick ass, but my issue is what have they done with it all? It's a fairly standard plot so far, even if executed competently, and I've been able to see almost everything coming from a mile away.

Terror in Resonance is good, albeit really slow. I think this show's about to pick up in a big way though, so I'm hoping it gets even better. So far I like the characters and cheering for the terrorists is a nice change of pace. We still don't know all that much about them (or most of the characters for that matter), though. I REALLY hope this one goes two seasons; I can't see how they could wrap all this shit up in 13 without it feeling rushed.

Blue Spring Ride is pretty good, but I can't help but wonder why the girls have fallen in love with... Well, a jerk. Sure, once in a while Kou will do something nice, then follow that up with a joke or insult or some such. But yeah, I enjoy pretty much everything else about this show.

And yeah, Nozaki-Kun is consistently funny. That's all it's trying to do and it succeeds. There's something to be said for doing one thing but doing it really well. I do like the supporting cast, though. They're all obviously good for comedic relief but outside of that they all actually seem interesting.

Shoujo romances. idk.

Kou's at least gotten better as it's gone on. He seemed like a pretty big douche early on but now it mostly just seems to be teasing.
