Blue Velvet is in my top 10 movies, but Eraserhead was abysmally boring nonsense. Oh. And I liked Lost Highway, but it wasn't super great or anything. I forgot I watched that. |

If you thought that was boring, don't even attempt this. I keep meaning to see Lost Highway and Inland Empire, but I never get around to it. I strongly suggest Mulholland Dr. I'd have to see Blue Velvet again to make sure, but I'm pretty sure Mulholland Dr. is my favorite Lynch film. It's one of those things you have to see more than once, but even after my first viewing it prolly cracked my T10. Prolly in my T5 now. |

Well I was going to start with TOS, but Volt said it's uber cheesy and I should just start with TNG. Regardless, I'll at least watch the first episode of TOS and decide from there. @Hasbag -- Eh, I don't think I'd want it to focus on Wolowitz. Everything he does is awkward. I think the show is good now, could probably use more of Raj though. Also, watched Blade Runner. It was alright. |

Watched the first four episodes of Firefly. Seems like a pretty good show! Should be done with it by Saturday (14 episodes @ 2 per day or so). |

So I finished Buffy like three days ago or something. List of dem seasons in order: 2>1>7>4>5>6>3 Most diehards'll say that 1 and 2 were the worst because they were so shallow and obvious, but they always were cool because they weren't overly muddled in 8 plot elements, had the most to do with the characters themselves, and had the most Whedon. I think he did one episode all of season 6. Party Down is either really funny or just kinda there. Hit and miss episodes I guess. I finished season 1 already since it's so short, and will do season two. Strangely enough, I like the episodes that don't contribute anything to the plot the most. It doesn't strike me as a show that needs an emphasized central plot. Obviously it shouldn't be Seinfeld-style nihilism, but the plot gets carried over the comedy, which is sad in a comedy show. |

Funny. It usually goes 1>2>3>4>5>6>7 :3 Saw Raging Bull tonight in my film lab. I was not a fan. Naturally, De Niro and Pesci put on nice performances and the sound was interesting (that's the element of the film we were supposed to be watching for), but the plot was meh, the characters were also meh, and there wasn't much about it that enthralled me. Easily my least favorite film we've watched in lab so far (Amadeus, American Beauty, and Slumdog Millionaire, which I even though was pretty overrated, I much preferred to Raging Bull). Films left to go in lab: A Place in the Sun Pleasantville (already seen it) The Hurt Locker or Sherlock Holmes (will prolly be Sherlock) Run, Lola, Run (was already on my watchlist) Anyone seen any of those? |

Seen a bit of Pleasantville. 'Twas alright. Hurt Locker was cool but a little boring. Sherlock Holmes? The Robert Downey Jr. one? Great. Other versions I can't speak for. |

I thought Hurt Locker was incredibly overrated. It was good, but definitely not "omg one of the best movies ever" good. There were a few intense scenes, but the rest was pretty boring in my opinion. And I thought Raging Bull was pretty awesome personally. I guess I could see how you thought it was boring, though. |

Assuming you meant, like failure said, the Robert Downey Jr. movie, then yeah it's good. Just watched V For Vendetta. Great movie, definitely one of my favorites now. Top 5-ish. |

I fucking hated Raging Bull. It's just...not good. Like other Scorsese movies, the plot overview sounds cool, "A boxer's violent tendencies pollute the other parts of his life," but when you watch it, that's hardly what happens. It's like it plays itself down, which is stupid. I truly left feeling like almost nothing had happened. It was just De Niro, being a douche, and having a sucky life, which you don't feel bad about, because he's a terrible person. Also, why was it in black and white? That added literally nothing to it. Speaking of movies I hate, I've also seen Amadeus. It's weird you mentioned these movies, since I was thinking about how terrible they both were earlier today. The characters don't make sense. Mozart is like a little schoolgirl, and is the only character without an accent, which comes across as, "lol i cant do accents." It was really boring except like, four scenes. There's more I hate about it, but I've blocked a lot of that movie from my memory. I liked American Beauty and Slumdog Millionaire. I don't have superlong rants about them. Pleasantville is okay. It's good, but I dunno. It's not one of my favorites. Sherlock Holmes gets more acclaim than it deserves, but it's still a good movie. |

I really enjoyed Amadeus. I don't know if Mozart truly was the way he was in the movie, but he lightened it up quite a bit and provided plenty of comedic moments. I thought his American accent was pretty good at contrasting him from everyone else, showing how different he was. And Hulce's performance was really strong. I went into it thinking it would be a boring musical biography, but I was pleasantly surprised. That said, one of my favorite things to explore in film (or any fiction, really) is opposites coming together. I'm sure that's one of the biggest reasons Dexter, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc. are some of my favorite shows. The duality of the characters and seeing how they are in their own world vs. how they are with other people (family being a huge one in all of them) intrigues me. I guess that's more of an internal thing, but external is great too (hell, I even enjoyed watching Dharma & Greg whenever I saw it on TV). Seeing a character who was so different from everyone in his time was really interesting for me. Add to that the whole thing with Salieri, and it made for a great movie with me. |

Decided just to watch the first episode of season 5 of Dexter (basically a continuation of the season 4 finale). Wasn't excited to watch the whole season again. Still want something short, so if the internet stops sucking hard, I'll be checking out Band of Brothers. Only ever heard good things about it. |

Posted Image That bitch being this thread. Watched A Place in the Sun in my film lab today. Not remotely what I expected from how it started out and all the information I had about it, but it was still all right. I guess Elizabeth Taylor got a bit better from the kinda good performance in this to the single best performance I have ever seen in a movie in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Do I end that sentence with a period?) The lead, Montgomery Clift, I didn't like as much as everyone else seemed to, but overall, the acting was decent. The story started off kind of dull, but it was better near the end. Wouldn't go out of my way to see this, but if you ever stumble upon it and have nothing better to do, I wouldn't tell you not to give it a chance. |
