I hate online fanbases. I avoid them as much as I can. When people try to sexualize fictional characters, I try to erase them from humanity. One time I met my friend's college friends, and they were all terrible. They spent all dinner looking up pictures of celebrities from TV shows and making masturbation jokes, while I avoided eye contact for a solid half hour. Then one of them brought up Buffy, and the girl there that I actually knew interjected, "HEY, DIDN'T YOU WATCH BUFFY?" so I was forced into an awkward conversation with a girl who had an obsession with Faith about just terrible badness. I literally stood up and started slowing edging away and she just kept talking. The worst part is that nothing is immune. I figured Sherlock fans would be intelligent. And then they sent death threats when they found out the [very shocking and totally not easily predictable] revelation that Sherlock and Watson won't end up having hot, sweaty man-sex, because Watson is straight! |

The same is especially terrible about Supernatural. Everyone pairs up Dean and Castiel (the centuries old angel now turned human) together so hard that when the announcers said that Castiel would get laid this season most of the fanbase nearly boycotted the season in protest. They didn't because everyone reminded them that doing so would cause the show to be canceled. People who ship Sherlock/Watson and Dean/Castiel are some of the worst, most rabid people on the planet. |

Asfan's recommendation was The Shield. Not to be confused with Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. And I only mentioned that it wasn't on streaming 'cause Ro asked for Netflix recommendations.
I think their online fanbase is pretty much the same as the online fanbases for Doctor Who. Maybe Supernatural, too, but it's not British. I've seen those three mentioned together a lot, IRL and online. Anyway, not saying all their fans are stupid, but I think they share a lot of fans who are active in their online fanbases/crusades. And uh yay, finished season 3 of The Wire. Shit was rather srs this season. Also: The Wire Season 3 Spoilers

Mac forgot about the worst one. Dean/Sam. Which is worse, because [for people who don't know], they're brothers. And they have a huge shipbase. My sister met one in real life once, who tried to explain how it could work. Even though he didn't watch the show. |

Thankfully I have yet to meet those. On Tumblr, you either support Dean/Cas or you are lynched. I have managed to avoid both fates so far, though I would prefer the latter. |

So I am four episodes into Mad Men and I'm liking it so far. As in I liked it from the first episode but the strange thing is I don't know why. It's not like it's because of the plot or the characters (I still like them though. Don Draper is an interesting one.) Maybe it's the setting. I'm usually a sucker for those kinds of series/movies. Also, I don't think I've mentioned this already but I finished Firefly a few weeks ago. Like what everyone's been telling me, it's a great show. The plots, and the setting is great and the characters are just fantastic. I have yet to watch Serenity which won't happen anytime soon with finals week coming up. |

Aaaand I finished season four of The Wire. Yay. I've been told it's the best season. I don't know how to pick a best season, though. Three and four just felt so perfect. I'll probably watch the last season this week, might spread into early next week. Had the long weekend for season four. |

So yeah, still watching Chuck. Just finished the third season tonight. The entire second half of that season was crazy. Every other episode could have been a season finale. I'm glad I started watching this. |

This is one of those times when I'm finishing several seasons pretty close to each other. This one happened to be a miniseries with the best ending I've seen in a show so far, so I figured I'd give it its own post instead of putting it off to include it with other stuff. So I just finished The Prisoner. It's an allegorical British sci-fi miniseries from 1967-1968 with 17 episodes. For some reason, those 17 episodes take up 10 discs on Netflix, so it took me a while to watch it. Anyway, heard it's one of the best sci-fi shows ever, so I thought I'd watch it. The show opens with a guy resigning from his job, going home, being abducted, and waking up in the Village. From here on out, he is known as Number Six (yes, like the one in that Iron Maiden song and Battlestar Galactica except this one isn't a female robot). Everyone in this village has a number. Number Two is the leader of the Village. There is a new one in almost every episode. In each episode, Number Two tries to figure out why Number Six resigned. Now I haven't read 1984 yet, but I'm sure this show was inspired by it. There are cameras throughout the Village tracking everyone, people who defy the system undergo reeducation, etc. However, on the surface, it's probably closer to Brave New World. Everyone except Six seems to be happy. Of course, it's not like BNW because all of the citizens are prisoners. I won't spoil anything specific outside of a spoiler box (is that what we call them?), but the way Number Six and Number Two interact changes throughout the show. Some early episodes show Two actively trying to get information out of Six, and Six's futile escape attempts. By the middle-ish episodes, Six has come to terms with his imprisonment -- but not his lack of identify -- and is able to cleverly outsmart Two instead of being suppressed by a giant floating white ball that comes out of the ocean named Rover (it's pretty much their police force -- it smothers prisoners who misbehave until they pass out). Also during this time and into the later episodes, Six tries to get more information out of Two. However, aside from this slow development, it is pretty episodic. Status quo at the end of most episodes. But that's the point. It just shows how manipulative the Village and Two are. The last episode directly follows the preceding episode, but they were produced a year apart from each other. Like I said, the last episode is my favorite part. I'll explain why vaguely here and in more detail in a spoiler box. I guess the main thing is just how crazy and satisfying it was. After all that craziness, there was a bunch of ambiguity. I had some ideas about what I thought the ending meant, but then I looked up some other interpretations online an found at least three completely different ones that mostly make sense. I haven't seen any other show with an ending that could be interpreted 3+ different ways and have all those endings be completely reasonable. I just really enjoyed reading all of those.
