Finally managed to finish the first 3 seasons of Arrested Development. I'm really not sure why I never got around to watching it earlier. It's possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen. All the recurring gags and meta-jokes were just brilliant. Can't wait to see season 4. |

double post woo Finished season 4. Oh man, the level of subtlety in this season is beyond me. It wasn't as entertaining the first time around as the first three seasons, but I've heard that everything is much funnier the second time, after you've gotten all the jokes. So I can't wait to sit down and rewatch it, especially since I did actually enjoy it quite a lot. But yeah, common opinion, but this show is genius. |

I finished up season 7 of the new Doctor Who. Awesome season, and now all that's left is "The Day of the Doctor" 50th anniversary special, Christmas special and 26 seasons of the classic show. Yeah, I'm probably not going to watch all of that, however I watched the two first episodes of the first season today. When I downloaded the first season last night, I was taken aback when I saw the first season had 42 episodes...thankfully each episode isn't 40 minutes like the new show, so that's something at least, only 22 minutes per episode, however that still makes the season twice as long as the new show (they are only 13 episodes long). I enjoyed the two first episodes, so we'll see if I'll stick by it. |

Finished The Wire. Umm, it really is the best show ever. Well, I guess it's the best show I've seen, but I can't imagine finding a better one. I don't know anything about Baltimore, but the show felt very realistic. I can't think of anything else to say because "realistic" just sums it up quite well. |

[utube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Hi2u98VKxc[/utube] Shame Jamesy can't seem to sing the older songs all that great (though to be fair, they are all old songs) anymore. He seems to have lost an awful lot of energy and harshness in his voice. Edited by Vieira151, Dec 26 2013, 02:58 PM.

I see you typed six lines of SIXFEETUNDER (x6). That's deep. Would you feel better if I said that between yesterday and today I've seen the first five episodes of Twin Peaks? I should finish season 1 tonight. I was going to just post when I do finish season 1, but I thought you might feel slightly better if I posted about that now. I like it. I don't know what I expected it to be, but it's not what I expected. I think I thought it'd be a lot darker and serious the whole time for some reason. Maybe that's just because of Netflix's picture (poster? icon? idk) for it being all dark and mysterious and stuff. And it is, but there's that other stuff too. Like Nadine's blinds. That doesn't seem dark/serious at all. But then you have people beating people with bars of soap in socks. Oh well. |

Started watching Hannibal. So far, based on the first episode, it is very very good. It certainly does not disappoint. Though they do seem to throw in as many "HANNIBAL EATS PEOPLE" references and cutaways as they can. |

Nah, I just put it in a random amount of times and it stretched the page, so I had to edit it all to not stretch. But I'm glad you're enjoying Twin Peaks. It's unique and David Lynch is basically the greatest director ever and you have good taste, so I guess it's no surprise. |

I just remembered that The Wire: The Musical exists. So I just watched it and it was amazing. As for Twin Peaks season 1: Like I said, I like it. But -- spoilers ahead even though it's not a spoiler if you know there are two seasons and Kyle MacLachlan is in both -- I hate "cliffhanger" season finale deaths. Why would anyone end a season with "OH OH IS HE DEAD" and then eight months later reveal "yup he's dead"? I'm pretty sure all of the season finales I've seen with an "ambiguous" death always keep the person alive in the next season premiere. It just loses that emotional punch if you wait eight months to reveal "yup, dead". I think Sherlock's season 2 finale handled this much better for obvious reasons if you've seen it. Just in case... Sherlock Season 2 Spoilers I don't mind certain cliffhanger finales, like ones that introduce what the major conflict of the next season will be, but things like this that can only go two ways (in most cases) just annoy me. |

Welp, Treme is finished. I realize that nobody else here watches the show (currently, anyway), but fuck it post time. This show didn't really "close", but I think that was bound to happen due to the format anyway, even if it got the planned run of five seasons. This is a show that just followed a small, core cast of ~10 characters who lived in New Orleans over three and a half seasons. Unless you kill them all off or something, there can't really be "closure"; they'll have to continue living their lives anyway. This will also be Mad Men's problem to a lesser extent, and combined with the fact that AMC has nothing other than TWD after it goes off the air, it's no surprise the final season will air over two years. I digress, I guess. Anyway, I found Annie's ending arc VERY underwhelming. She picked up an agent, said agent wanted her to water down her music for the masses, and it predictably exploded tonight with an impassioned speech about her having to make music with her band in her way, but... Then the whole band continues on the path to mainstream success. I dun even know what the fuck just happened. The whole point of that arc (at least IMO) was to see if she'd sell out for mainstream success, stay true to her music, or somehow pull off the impossible and do both, but we don't see anything that could be called a decision. Sonny is pretty much a worse Bubbles, who also had an easier recovery to boot. I like Sonny and was pulling for him as he got better, but Bubbles was an amazing character who contributed a lot to The Wire despite his relatively small role. My main gripe is that this isn't really an original character I guess; the Bubbles comparisons are just too obvious. Khandi Alexander deserves all the Emmys for Best Actress. LaDonna is easily the best-acted character on the show every season, and it's not like this show was suffering for good acting. Wendell Pierce (Antoine), Clarke Peters (Albert), Lucia Micarelli (Annie), Steve Zahn (Davis), John Goodman (Creighton), and India Ennenga (Sofia) were all great too, though there wasn't a badly played character on the show at all. It's a shame that this show only got nominations for its music, which was obviously stellar, but the character portrayals also deserve serious praise. I'd like to say, "give Davis a chance". The fanbase tends to hate him, but he brings the comedy relief and is surprisingly insightful/empathetic once you get past the lackadaisical front he puts up. He's definitely one of my favorite characters. The music is spectacular. You don't just hear JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ as you might think; you also hear creole, bounce, metal, amongst other genres. New Orleans is a very musically diverse city, and it shows in the sheer variety of music you hear throughout the run of Treme. It's the best music show on television, considering that music channels gave up on music long ago and Glee is about style over substance, so I guess that doesn't leave many candidates for the title. I'm not an authority on New Orleans, but I thought the show did a great job at weaving major events (Bush's State of the Nation speech, Obama being elected, the Danziger Bridge shootings, amongst others) that happened into the narrative. I'm sure I missed plenty of smaller references. About the only major thing they didn't show would be anything to do with the Saints, which was obviously a big deal both down there and to the nation at large, but this would be mostly because the NFL is anal with the use of their copyrights. It's hard to show the Saints when you can't show anything related to them. I could keep on going, but I'll miss this show. It's a shame that more people didn't watch it, but due to its style and its relatively niche focus, I can see why it never broke 1.2 million viewers at any point during its time on the air. It probably just isn't feasible to continue producing a drama that averages 500-600k viewers. Edited by Romanticide, Dec 31 2013, 05:18 AM.
